Divine Emperor of Death

chapter-3211
Davis fell into the chasm, disappearing into the misty clouds.
Defying the laws of gravity, he stepped forward and ventured further.
When they traversed here, it was not a straight plain. Davis knew they were increasingly climbing in altitude, so this place was actually the skies, making sense as to why this place hadn't been fully encased by the apocalyptic flames yet.
Therefore, he was now flying in at greater altitudes, perhaps only a few hundred thousand kilometers away from the ceiling of the realm. Here, the heaven and earth energy was denser and clouded his senses, so he expected that it applied to the dark dragon as well, considering that it was restricted and probably adjusted for the Empyreal Monarchs to be able to barely handle it.
Otherwise, he didn't see the meaning of this final level before the realm concoction finally began.Davis ventured across the misty skies.
There was no sign of the dark dragon, not even its silhouette or its undulations, making him wonder if it had concealed itself. Moreover, he swore he heard the sound of chains clacking, so even though he didn't see much of their bodies, he guessed part of their limbs should be covered in chains, perhaps their legs, disallowing them to leave this space while also having many suppressive effects.
Soon enough, Davis found a floating island just by floating blindly in this area.
It was around a few kilometers wide and appeared like a reverse triangle, although it was still made up of land mass. He stepped onto the island, inducing a slight tremor across the land, which came back to him as though he had done an echolocation, finding nothing within the land.
"…"
However, there was a blatant enticement placed at the center of the island, making him blink.
'A Light Essence Orb…?'Davis saw the glowing orb placed within a transparent container that sealed its essence within. He was a bit astonished that he came across such a treasure but then understood why, as it was only at Mid-Stage Immortal Emperor Grade.
He didn't bide his time and walked towards the treasure without stopping to check his surroundings.
When he touched the container, some kind of device underneath it let it go, allowing him to take it.
*Whoosh~*
It disappeared within his spatial ring, causing him to drop his hands.
However, he didn't move.
Amidst the resounding silence, he waited, watching out for the slight shift in the misty veil of the area.
He waited and kept waiting for a few seconds, but no harm befell him, finally making his lips curl. Subsequently, he walked in the direction of the central region and jumped off the edge of the island, flying away.
It wasn't long before he encountered another island.
"Well, well… if it isn't another essence orb…"
Davis's brows twitched as his voice resounded across the area.
These were treasures that he would fight tooth and nail for, but these were kept like they were roadside vendors leaving unsold vegetables that they didn't need. He was momentarily speechless, unable to give a proper reaction to it.
He came out of his reverie a few seconds later and appeared before the jade container, taking away the essence orb again.
Its grade was at Mid-Level Immortal Emperor, but he was even more interested in this treasure than the previous one because he recognized it to be Poison Essence Orb. It was jade-green and purple in color. Licking his lips, he couldn't help but feel that it was the best souvenir for his Hex Demoness, but his brows squinted, turning to look towards the distance.
"Really? You're just going to let me take all these magnificent treasures?"
He voiced out, waiting for an attack or two, but it didn't come, much less the booming voice of the dark dragon.
Instead, silence remained across the region, making him become suspicious.
'You want me to gain distance from the bridge?'
Davis's lips curled again as he confirmed his beliefs.
Although it looked like he traversed a lot of distance, he made sure to remain closer to the bridge, and therefore, the dark dragon never really approached him. However, with just two instances of treasure finding, he also confirmed the closer the treasures are to the bridge, the less they are in grade.
Clearly, the dark dragon was waiting for him to gain distance from the bridge.
"So be it."
However, Davis chuckled with an evil grin and continued scouring the islands near the bridge.
Third treasure, fourth, fifth… seventh, and eighth treasure.
By the time he came across the tenth land, his eyes were glowing fervently from the amount of Immortal Emperor Grade Treasures he obtained, his heart pounding from the wealth he had in store. Half of the treasures he didn't recognize, but for the other half, he could vaguely pinpoint their identities.
'Blinking Starlight Silk, a Mid-Level Immortal Emperor Grade Spatial Attribute Treasure that can be woven into robes, greatly boosting an armor or artifact's spatial prowess…'
'Shadow Yinwood Nectar, a Mid-Level Immortal Emperor Grade Yin Attribute that is capable of greatly increasing the comprehension of Yin Laws…'
'Light Dragon's Reverse Scale. Considering the prowess emanating from it, it is very likely a High-Level Immortal Emperor Grade Treasure that can greatly boost one's vitality, even granting one the blood of Light Dragon to an optimal level that doesn't interfere with their own bloodline unless they try to fully assimilate it…'
'Three-Eyed White Serpent's Third Eye… a Mid-Level Immortal Emperor Grade Illusion Attribute Treasure…'
Needless to say, a Three-Eyed White Serpent was a powerful serpent that could cast and see through illusions, lining along with beings like the Fire Dragon and Fire Phoenix in terms of bloodline grade. Obtaining its third eye and using it to make a pill out of it should greatly boost one's illusion art.
Knowing all this, Davis's heart was shaken, wanting more as these treasures were all helpful to him and his family. It was like it was cherry-picked to accommodate the heavenly geniuses, which was understandable.
He wasn't complacent when he jumped into this dangerous sector but knew it would be extremely hard to hunt him down due to the restrictions imposed on these beings. Otherwise, even if he had three lives, he wouldn't take the chance unless he had a really good reason where he wanted to obtain something of immense value.
But at this point, he was just window-shopping for treasures. He felt he would take it without hesitation if something caught his fancy. However, almost everything caught his fancy here, so in his mind, he was mercilessly looting the shop, waiting for the guard to arrive.
However, even after plundering another island, the dark dragon didn't even deign to show its appearance to him.
Eventually, Davis came across a bridge towards his front, causing him to blink as this meant he eventually reached the edge of the outer circle, which could mean the dark dragon could no longer follow him. He guessed there wouldn't be any treasures either, so he turned around, wanting to head deeper, when he heard a faint tremor.
It was so light that it wouldn't be found out if it weren't for his ridiculous perception. Not even the mist moved, but he could sense that it came from the previous island he stepped on, causing him to blink.
*Booom!~*
With a resounding boom, a great shockwave blew through the air, abruptly clearing away the mist.
"Noo!!! Save me!"
What Davis saw was the colossal Variant Dark Dragon crushing a cultivator with its giant hand. A life-saving talisman evidently broke and momentarily saved the transcendent from being crushed, but the moment he let out a terrified howl, the barrier broke, and he was completely squashed.
Davis couldn't even see the blood splattering as the dragon's black hand crushed the transcendent to smithereens. He could hear a vague scream from the bridge, perhaps the dead transcendent's allies shouting his name in despair, but all Davis could see was the dark dragon.
It was looking at him, its huge mouth elongating back as it smirked like a wicked fiend.
"What's wrong? Afraid to head deeper?"
The Variant Dark Dragon spoke in a firm yet sarcastic voice before it took back its ridiculously thick hand affixed to its wing and flew back, causing the mist to swiftly gather around its departure again before its silhouette completely disappeared.
Even its undulations didn't, or the sound of chains didn't register anymore, causing Davis's eyes to narrow.
