Divine Emperor of Death
chapter-3808

"They should be." Davis said

Considering their fates weren't ordinary but also glorious as long as they weren't with him, he liked to think they were safe.

"Maybe we should've just accommodated them in our mansion." Tia looked sad.

It made Davis purse his lips before he reached out his hand and rubbed her blonde head.

"Don't worry. They have enough experience by now to roam freely. We will meet them once again and if fate allows us to remain safe, we can offer them sanctuary."

"Big brother," Tia narrowed her eyes, "Why are you intentionally keeping them away as though you don't know they have feelings for you?"

"…" Davis stared at her.

His Tia was at it again. She wasn't caring about herself most of the time and was vouching for other women. Even though he slightly understood why, he didn't like it.

He brought her closer and sat back on the rock again, opening his mouth.

"Tia, are you caring because you know them or because you already cared for them for a long time that could be considered a lifetime?"

"Uhm, it's because I want to know them more."

Tia answered.

It was such a straight-faced lie that Davis couldn't help but want to expose her hypocrisy as she wanted the truth from him but wasn't telling the truth herself. Perhaps, she was careful of karmic burden, so he didn't place blame and opened her mouth.

"To be honest, I don't love them and I don't have the time to with all that's going on around us. Tell me, Tia. I accepted you but I have yet to make love with you. Is there any injustice to you in this world than what I'm doing?"

"…"

Tia turned speechless. She wanted to agree but doing so would only justify his actions towards Jade and Ivy which she absolutely didn't want to happen.

"Is that answer not good?"

Seeing Tia remain silent for a few moments, Davis asked.

Like he comforted his other wives, he felt like he must comfort Tia. Otherwise, it was possible she might make an independent journey to find them and endanger herself.

Tia had shown much resilience, the ability to roll the dice first and adapt after that incident, so he knew she was daring enough to go on a journey.

After a few more seconds, Tia shook her head, indicating the answer wasn't enough. She pouted, looking angry before she raised her hands and protested.

"What about Zenova Artoria? You proposed to her but you didn't love her…" This was the matter that sparked her outrage.

How come he offered Zenova Artoria a hand in marriage but not Ivy and Jade who were sincere?

"Well…"

Davis didn't know where to start but he explained his actions.

"Tia, I'm not insensitive. I know there are many women that were into me but I don't have the time for all of them but that's not the reason I am staying away from Ivy Aries and Valley Master Jade Aurora. I know one loves me and the other has a huge crush on me but I don't wish upon them that kind of altered life. More than anything, they have their own lives devoid of my influence. You understand what I'm saying, right?"

"…" Tia lowered her head.

It was true that they didn't meet Davis until later on in the storybook but that didn't mean he could just leave them since she knew what they wanted at the end.

"However, Zenova is what I need right now to protect my family. Her smarts will allow us to survive even if we are forced to scatter…"

He explained and emphasized how he didn't love or romantically like Zenova Artoria or any of them for that matter.

The same way, he didn't romantically like Jade and Ivy despite their sacrifices and only felt guilt towards them for the sacrifices they made which he couldn't relate to because they were not them.

That's why he helped them instead of accepting them as his women. He was aware only Jade had fallen in love while Ivy still had a crush on him.

He guessed they loved him after in the true immortal world in that other fate after his wives all died, so imagined that they didn't want him that much now necessarily and could still look elsewhere.

On the other hand, Zenova Artoria has displayed on numerous occasions that she can survive alone and is a great addition who might protect the family if she was willing enough, so he offered her an opportunity to become one of his wives.

Who said he couldn't arrange marriages for himself?

Love could always be slowly developed during the period of marriage as long as there was consent between the two parties. As far as he was concerned, love was a luxury similar to privilege, but back on the planet, it was advertised as a necessity or foundation because some shady company romanticized it more than necessary and sold a lie to the populace when in fact, it was something the hero and heroine developed after crossing numerous life and death hurdles.

It wasn't something an average person would encounter in their day to day life unless they willingly searched for it or got hurt trying.

Davis always thought it was an important factor for living a happy life but was not necessary for marriages to happen. Otherwise, the vast majority of people would never get married in their lifetime or quickly get divorced over something so vague and fickle if they weren't strong and determined enough to be committed.

It was his first time doing something like an arranged marriage.

On the other hand, if he started giving out marriage vouchers out of pity or sympathy, his harem count would have easily reached a hundred long ago, so he avoided doing that and kept his eyes closed for the sake of his own and wives' peace.

After explaining all this and making himself an open book to Tia, he spread his hands and uttered.

"I don't deserve them. That's why I told Ivy to not spend time chasing a dude who wouldn't turn to look at them but she didn't look like she understood. Even after all this you still wish me to take Jade and Ivy, then help me protect our family first. Right now, there is nothing else on my mind. I wish for them to stay safe but I'm sorry for being colder than a devil because I care less for them than I care for you and the others."

Davis hugged Tia and lifted her chin, moving closer to kiss but he didn't and kissed her forehead.

"I can't even initiate dual cultivation with you or even Evelynn, Isabella and Shirley who returned because we're hard pressed for time. Don't you find that ridiculous? Don't you find me pathetic, so why would you adamantly offer your imaginary sworn sisters to me?"

"…"

Tia's gaze shook. His sensible words alone made her reconsider for a moment but she raised her hand and caught his cheeks as she smashed her lips on his.

'They died knowing it was a lost cause, so-'

"Everything would be for naught if you didn't accept them! Even if they found happiness with someone else, then it would be nothing but falsehood for me!"

She screamed into his mind, making Davis's heart shudder.
