Divine Emperor of Death
chapter-3861

*Wooz~*

The resulting surge of power was so intense that it caused a shockwave to ripple through the Empyrean Grade Flying Ship, catching the attention of the two assassins outside on the deck. Davis knew he had to act quickly to control this tremendous, overflowing power before it spiraled out of control, so he quickly suppressed it.

"…!"

Sweat dripped down his face as he concentrated on keeping the power in check, his muscles needlessly straining with the effort.

The iridescent black-white energy receded within the black-white stone and left behind a sensation of emptiness in the air. It was like the massive surge of energy never happened, as the surroundings were utterly silent.

Using all his focus, he managed to contain the energy within the treasure, feeling the immense pressure and heat building up within him from the terrible outcome that could've occurred here.

Davis was unable to stop his trembling as he realized the true power of this fragment.

He barely regained himself as he looked around, gazing at Rokushi Mirai, who had woken up from the tremor. However, he continued to glance around, marveling at the sudden release of power that had damaged some portions of the ship's wooden interior in his room, indicating that there was a chance of the ship collapsing.

Fortunately, he had taken the cabin far away from the engines, so the risk was relatively less. However, this cabin was done for with all the holes all around. Even the rooms above and below were damaged a bit, but they didn't seem to be corrupted.

Fortunately, it wasn't death energy that ran berserk but reincarnation energy that had a minor effect on non-living things.

As for Rokushi Mirai, he had diverted the growling energy from nearing her when he suppressed it, so she could be safe. She didn't look particularly ill or wounded when he glanced at her.

Davis didn't care about Rokushi Mirai and returned his gaze to the black-white stone, carefully researching its intricacies.

Right now, he wanted to see through all of it because he was convinced this treasure would allow him to save his friends and put an end to the nightmare that is the crusade against him, the Divine Emperor of Death.

At least in this Third Layer, as long as he possessed this treasure, he was no longer afraid.

Davis knew this treasure didn't follow the contemporary or general rule of treasures.

For example, a High-Level Empyrean Grade Armament or Artifact has a spirit capable of unleashing Late Stage Empyrean-level attacks, but only a few times before its energy depletes. Even if an Immortal Emperor owns it, they can't fully harness its power. Even if the spirit acknowledged them, they would have limited use before exhausting its energy.

However, this treasure— Rokushi Mirai's treasure is different. It possessed immense energy and a berserk nature, only usable by those fated or compatible with it, while others risked self harm since they would be subjected to the incompatible energy.

If a spirit is born from such a treasure, it would act as a limiter to prevent the treasure from destroying itself. Initially, the spirit would be like a baby trying to control an adult body, unable to properly move, but as it matures, it can unleash the treasure's full power. Even without an owner, the treasure can continuously use its energy due to its vast reserves.

This black-white stone was such a treasure.

It had no spirit, but its energy reserves were practically endless for his current self.

That was why he was able to use its power without having to expend his energy. He only needed his powerful consciousness to be able to control it. Under normal circumstances, it drained his psyche quite a bit, so he figured he could use it for an hour or two at the very least.

The problem was— did this treasure have similar consequences as Fallen Heaven?

He guessed not, since it was only a fragment of the Tablet of Life and Death. He believed that it would be fine as long as he didn't use Fallen Heaven to power it, and even if he did, the consequences would surely be less than what he would endure with directly using Fallen Heaven.

'Finally, a treasure I can both have and use without restraint…'

Davis grinned as he looked thrilled again.

Only he could tell how stifling it was to have an apex treasure like Fallen Heaven but not use it.

Only Fallen Heaven knew how many predecessors had fallen to this dampening emotion.

"You— are you thinking of abandoning me?"

"…!"

Davis flinched as he suddenly heard Fallen Heaven's voice within his soul.

It was quite empty since he left Nadia and Eldia in the Nine-Treasured Immortal Ordeal Palace.

"Of course not, my glorious Fallen Heaven. There's no treasure that can come near you, but you know— having a beauty but being unable to touch her could cause death by frustration, so you can at least let me have a mistress who's under your control, right?"

Davis humored Fallen Heaven. It could naturally perceive his emotions, so he knew it realized that he was relieved to have the new treasure. He couldn't help but feel sorry.

"As long as you understand."

Fallen Heaven grumbled.

If it had a face, Davis could imagine it sulking from its tone.

Fallen Heaven had become deeply attached to him. He knew that for a fact when it berated Myria, telling her that she had no control over it and that it was just letting her have some authority over it because he— its true partner—didn't mind.

At that moment, he was truly moved, knowing the chances of Fallen Heaven leaving him were practically zero.

It might just be an artifact spirit, but from his time in the cultivation world, he knew spirits were living beings that experienced pain and suffering just like any normal human. Without it, he wouldn't have reached this far.

Regardless, Fallen Heaven made him wonder what kind of spirit it would become in the future. After all, Fallen Heaven was a powerful spirit stemming from two Primeval Law Treasures. With that being the case, he didn't know how long that would take or if it was even possible in the first place.

"What are you?"

A cold voice echoed from the side, but Davis didn't pay attention.

His attention was still grabbed by the black-white stone. The more he gazed at it, the more he felt a strange pull towards it, knowing that it was seeking connection with him just as Fallen Heaven or any other treasure with compatibility would do. It was both fascinating and unsettling at the same time, leaving him with a sense of unease mixed with curiosity.

After all, this treasure didn't have a spirit, so it was up to him to control it from going berserk like before, although that wasn't berserk as it was just Fallen Heaven being able to use its full potential.

Soon enough, Davis finally turned to look at Rokushi Mirai.

She seemed to be trying to crawl away as she neared the exit. He had thoroughly tied her up, so even floating was daunting for her. He stood up, walking towards her, before he picked her up by the chains.
