chapter-177
“Tell your family first,” suggested Wang Yao.
“Okay.” The man’s hand was shaking while calling his family. Wang Yao suddenly realized he was a bit harsh just now. He must have scared the man badly. In fact, he could have put it in a nicer way. I need to be careful with what I say next time to avoid distressing the patient, thought Wang Yao.
The ambulance arrived shortly, and so did the man’s family members. The middle-aged man was shaking when he got into the ambulance.
“Gotta go, Mei,” said the paramedics who obviously knew Pan Mei. It was probably because Pan Jun worked in the emergency department of the hospital.
“Take it easy; keep in mind that the patient has a heart condition, and he possibly has thrombosis,” said Pan Mei.“Sure,” said the paramedics.
The ambulance went off immediately. Only Pan Mei and Wang Yao were left in the clinic.
“Is he going to be okay?” asked Pan Mei.
“He will if he can be treated immediately. But the risk was still there. The thrombosis possibly went into his heart,” said Wang Yao.
“I think he is really scary,” said Pan Mei.
“It was my fault,” said Wang Yao. “I could have put it in a nicer way. Now he’s shocked and scared which could make things worse.”
Wang Yao was a bit guilty.“You did it out of kindness,” said Pan Mei.
“Well, I have to go now,” said Wang Yao.
Pan Mei gave Wang Yao a red envelope with cash before he left as usual.
“Thank you,” said Wang Yao.
“Drive safe,” said Pan Mei.
What happened to the middle-aged patient made Wang Yao realized that he could do better when communicating with patients. He required not only medical skills but also communication skills. He could gain medical skills through study and the system, but he had to gain communication skills through work experience, not any books.
…
The next day was Wednesday; Wang Yao went to Renhe clinic again as usual. A middle-aged woman came in at about 11 am.
“Hello, Pan Mei, is Dr. Wang here today?” asked the middle-aged woman.
“Yes, what do you need him for?” asked Pan Mei.
“I just want to thank him in person,” said the middle-aged woman with a smile.
“Thank him? Is your father better?” asked Pan Mei.
“Yes, he is no longer in a critical condition thanks to your clinic. The doctors from the hospital said he wouldn’t have survived if the treatment was delayed for one or two hours!” said the middle-aged woman.
“That’s good. He is here today; you can find him in his clinical room,” said Pan Mei.
Thank me?!
Wang Yao was surprised to see the middle-aged woman.
“The patient who had heart disease is my father,” said the middle-aged woman.
“I see.” Wang Yao immediately realized what was happening.
After expressing her gratitude to Wang Yao, the woman took out a red envelope and placed it on the table.
“I just want to give you this to express my gratitude. Please accept it,” said the middle-aged woman.
“Thank you. But I’m not allowed to take red envelope from patients,” Wang Yao refused to accept the red package immediately.
It took Wang Yao a long time and great effort to convince the woman to take the money back. Quite a few of Wang Yao’s patients came to the clinic to thank him, but it was the first time for him to get a money envelope from a patient.
“I’m glad your father is out of danger,” said Wang Yao.
“Thank you. I won’t bother you anymore then. See you later, Dr. Wang,” said the middle-aged woman.
“Okay, see you later,” said Wang Yao.
The middle-aged woman thanked Wang Yao repeatedly before leaving.
Wang Yao was very happy to receive appreciation from his patients or family members. Although he looked calm on the outside, no one disliked being commended, not even the saints.
When it was close to noon, Wang Yao asked Wang Mingbao if he would like to join him for lunch. Wang Mingbao came, but he was not alone. He came with Wei Hai.
Wei Hai came to have lunch with Wang Yao and Wang Mingbao, as well as asking Wang Yao to check his health. He brought two boxes of tea. The tea was precious and not cheap. Wei Hai wanted to give it to Wang Yao as a present.
“Hey, I thought you treated me as your close friend. How come you haven’t brought me some nice tea?” joked Wang Mingbao.
“I’ll bring you some another day,” said Wei Hai with a smile.
“Let me take a look at you first,” suggested Wang Yao.
“Sure,” said Wei Hai.
Wang Yao checked Wei Hai’s pulse.
“Well, your pulse is stronger and firmer than the last time I saw you. Do you still vomit blood?” asked Wang Yao.
“No, but I still have blood in my stool,” said Wei Hai.
Wei Hai was terrified initially when he was vomiting and passing blood in his stool. But now, he had gotten used to it. He had accepted that that was how the toxins were repelled out of his body.
“You know what? Since I started to get better, my sleep quality has improved a lot. Honestly, I hadn’t been able to sleep well for a long time. I always woke up in the middle of the night and had nightmares. I see now that I don’t need to make billions. Nothing can buy health!” said Wei Hai.
“It’s good that you finally know what you want,” said Wang Yao.
After a simple lunch, Wang Yao and Wang Mingbao sat in Wei Hai’s store for a short while to rest.
Something is not right.
Wang Yao had a look at Wei Hai’s store. He stood up and walked around and found that Wei Hai’s store was quite big. It had two stories. Wang Yao estimated the store should be at least 200 square meters. He presumed the store would be really expensive due to its size and location. They were at the second floor, and Wang Yao felt a bit cold inside.
The rooms were not bright. Wang Yao didn’t know why most of the windows were blocked.
“Have you been living here?” asked Wang Yao.
“Yes, why?” said Wei Hai.
“Don’t you think something is not right here?” asked Wang Yao.
“Well, not really,” said Wei Hai after thinking for a while. In fact, Wei Hai hadn’t been in good health, so he couldn’t be sharp enough to feel anything wrong in the store. Wang Yao, on the other hand—his five senses were much sharper than average people, and he became more sensitive after staying in the spirit gathering battle array.
“Is there anything wrong here?” asked Wei Hai.
“I think the room is too dark. Why are the windows blocked?” Wang Yao pointed at those blocked windows. It was a nice and sunny day, but the sunshine couldn’t go through the windows.
“Good question. I don’t know why they were blocked. The windows were like this when I bought this place, and I didn’t pay any attention to it. Now you mentioned it. I agree that it’s a bit odd to have those windows blocked. By the way, do you know Feng Shui?” asked Wei Hai in surprise.
“No. I just felt cold when I entered this room. It’s good to have more sunshine in the room; it’s good for your health, especially since it is spring now, so the sunshine is not that strong,” said Wang Yao.
“It makes sense. I will arrange people to unblock those windows in the afternoon. Can you check the other areas of my store? I will change it if anything is not right.” Wei Hai trusted Wang Yao completely now. He would take any advice from Wang Yao even if Wang Yao recommended him to demolish the building.
“I think everywhere else is fine for now,” said Wang Yao.
He left for Renhe Clinic after staying at Wei Hai’s store for a short while.
“Hey, Mingbao, does your friend really know Feng Shui?” Wei Hai pulled Wang Mingbao’s sleeve gently and asked after Wang Yao had left.
“Are you kidding? No!” laughed Wang Mingbao.
“You mentioned that he studied biology in the university. Now he can treat patients and has become an extraordinary doctor. Why don’t you think he understands Feng Shui? I don’t think Feng Shui is more difficult to understand than medicine,” said Wei Hai.
“Well, you make sense,” said Wang Mingbao after thinking for a moment.
“Maybe he knows Feng Shui as well. Ask him when you have a chance,” said Wei Hai.
There were not so many patients in the clinic in the afternoon. Those who came to see doctors just had a cold or a headache—nothing special. They just came to get a prescription. There were three doctors in the clinic other than Wang Yao. They were drinking tea and chatting. Wang Yao was much younger than them, so he didn’t join their conversation. Instead, he was studying acupuncture.
Suddenly, the sky became dark.
“I haven’t slept well lately,” said one of the doctors.
“What’s wrong with you?” asked another doctor.
“I guess it is because I’m getting old and weak!” said that doctor.
“Well, ask Dr. Wang to take a look at you. He’s very good at treating people like you,” said the other doctor.
“Him? Forget it!” said that doctor.
He sounded contemptuous and jealous.
“Haha, you are still the same—too proud!” laughed the other doctor.
Although they spoke in a very low voice, Wang Yao could hear the conversation clearly.
Those old doctors!
Wang Yao shook his head and smiled. He knew what those doctors thought about him from the very beginning. He could tell from the way they looked at him. Maybe the doctors had slightly changed their view on him lately after he had successfully cured some patients, but deep down they still thought he was some young and inexperienced doctor.
Older people were often stubborn.
Drip, drop. Something hit the window. It started to rain outside.
“It’s raining. I have to go and pick up my granddaughter,” said one of the doctors.
“I need to go and pick up my grandson too,” said another doctor.
Soon those doctors had all left. It was empty in the clinic again.
Well, only me again. I guess no more patients will come this afternoon.
Wang Yao put his book down at about 5 pm then opened the system panel.
I have three days left, and I need recognition from six more people.
Three days and six people.
When he was thinking whether he should continue to work in the clinic tomorrow, the number on the system changed from six to three, which meant he only required recognition from three more people. Wang Yao presumed his decoctions had started to take effect on some patients who started to appreciate his medical skills.
Maybe I can complete the mission tonight.
Wang Yao left the clinic and drove home. When he drove through an intersection, a woman suddenly ran toward the middle of the road. Wang Yao had to brake hard to avoid hitting her.
What the hell!?
Wang Yao pressed the button to open the window and found the woman had left in a hasty manner. She didn’t even look where she was heading to and had no awareness of the road.
I think I’ve seen her somewhere, thought Wang Yao.
Beep! Beep! Beep! The driver behind Wang Yao kept pressing the horn in his car. As soon as Wang Yao was ready to accelerate, he had to stop due to change of traffic light.
The traffic light turned green, and Wang Yao slowly started his vehicle. But the driver behind him was so impatient that he overtook Wang Yao’s vehicle at the intersection ahead. When he drove by, he winded down the window and gave Wang Yao the middle finger.
“Hey, do you know how to drive a car? You are as slow as a turtle!” shouted the young driver.
As he was distracted when shouting to Wang Yao, he almost hit a scooter passing in front of him. He was shocked and swerved his car across the pedestrian path and hit a light pole. The front of the car had a dent, and the airbags popped out.
The incident shocked the passengers, as well as the driver.
If you didn’t do stupid things, they wouldn’t come back and bite you in the ass.
