Yue Tingfeng hung up and sat there calmly.

During the call, Yue Tingfeng thought that he would smash his phone as soon as the call ended. He expected himself to fly into a rage because Helan Fangnian’s sudden call interrupted whatever plans he originally had; instead, Yue Tingfeng did nothing.

Flames began burning in his heart, but he was unnervingly calm.

The person Helan Fangnian fell for was Yan Qingsi, and the two of them had gotten acquainted while they were in Country M.

Yue Tingfeng lied to his best friend by saying that he did not know who Yan Qingsi was.

It was wrong to do so, and Yue Tingfeng knew that.

Still, what reason did he have for telling Helan Fangnian?

Just so he could let Helan Fangnian steal Yan Qingsi away?

How laughable. Yue Tingfeng would never do something so stupid.

In fact, Yue Tingfeng was a conceited, despotic, and scheming person. It was only in front of Yan Qingsi that he behaved like a rascal.

Toward others however, his schemes were unending, especially when the occasion called for it. Not even his friends were spared.

If Yue Tingfeng had his eyes on something, he always wanted to have it. No one should even think about taking it away from him, for it was impossible to do so.

In that aspect, he and Yan Qingsi were one —’Don’t ever try and take away what belongs to me.’

His policy was: ‘I know lying to you isn’t right, but I won’t feel guilty about it, because when it comes to women, taking a step back is equivalent to gifting her to you.

‘There’s only one Yan Qingsi. You may like her, but I have my eyes on her already. There’s no reason why I should give way to you, even if you’re my friend!’

Nevertheless, the reality he had to come to terms with was that his best friend was going to rival him for his woman.

There was a cold gaze in Yue Tingfeng’s eyes. “Yan Qingsi, just how enchanting are you? Even Helan Fangnian is a threat to me right now.”

Yue Tingfeng took the phone on his work desk and said, “Get in here.”

Jiang Lai knocked immediately on the door and came in. He felt that something was not right the instant he stepped foot into the room.

Yue Tingfeng may seem pretty normal, but the atmosphere was nothing but. Once Jiang Lai entered, he instantly felt his hair stood on end—a sign that danger was lying in wait.

Jiang Lai stood properly and greeted, “CEO Yue.”

Yue Tingfeng slowly took out a stack of thick documents, and all of a sudden, those papers sailed through the air and onto Jiang Lai’s body. “I told you to look into Yan Qingsi’s three years at Country M. Why didn’t you manage to find out if Helan Fangnian knew her?”

Jiang Lai shuddered. His heart felt a twinge and his legs were getting so limp that he nearly fell over.

The boss’ foul mood meant that it was best not to argue. Jiang Lai admitted his mistake immediately, “This… About this… I’m really sorry CEO Yue. It was my oversight. I didn’t do my job well. There were times when Miss Qingsi’s location changed a few times in a row, and her whereabouts were unknown because she hid too well. We…weren’t able to get information on that, so…I’m sorry, CEO Yue.”

Jiang Lai also knew that Helan Fangnian was looking for someone since Yue Tingfeng has tasked Jiang Lai with that as well.

It scarcely occurred to Jiang Lai that the person Helan Fangnian searched for, was the very same person that the boss was looking for.

Yue Tingfeng’s eyes stared directly at Jiang Lai, leaving the latter’s forehead soaking in sweat.

“Jiang Lai…” Yue Tingfeng began speaking.

Jiang Lai gulped. “Yes. What can I do?”

Yue Tingfeng continued staring at him and said, “If you don’t investigate this properly, I’ll send you to take Wu Fang’s place.”
