“Boss, boss… I want to work for you. I like the company—it’s like my family, and everyone loves it,” Ji Mianmian panically said, “My respect for you and the company burns brighter than the sun outside. Please believe me…”

The corners of Yue Tingfeng’s mouth twitched. Was this little assistant of Yan Qingsi’s involved in standup comedy before?

He cleared his throat. “Since you feel that way, then show your sincerity to your boss.”

“Sin – sincere – ly. I – I am truly sincere,” Ji Mianmian forced herself to say. “My flesh and bone were made to serve the Yue Clan Financial Group. For the company, I will – devote every fiber of my being! I will, I will…”

Ji Mianmian trailed off, unable to think of anything else to say.

Yue Tingfeng glanced over her and tapped his wristwatch.

“You have roughly six minutes to consider everything. Do you choose to be a permanent employee of the Yue Group and receive all its benefits, or… once you’ve finished your internship you…”

Ji Mianmian’s expression was pained and she cut Yue Tingfeng off. “Boss, I… Please don’t…” she continued hastily. “Why don’t – why don’t you punish me by making me scrub the toilet instead?”

“You’d rather scrub toilets than talk to me about what happened?”

“I can’t say anything, Boss. I can’t betray my goddess…”

Yue Tingfeng reassessed Ji Mianmian. Her face was round and youthful, a smidgen of baby fat still filled her cheeks, and her hair was black as midnight. He never thought that this cute-looking girl would rather scrub toilets than betray Yan Qingsi.

Yan Qingsi had found herself a good P.A.

“Fine. I won’t let you betray her. Now I will ask you a question. Just answer with a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’. This doesn’t count as a betrayal, does it?”

Ji Mianmian chewed on her lip then said, “Then… then after I answer you… Will I be promoted to be permanent staff? Will – I received 6000 in wages? Will I have all the employee benefits?”

“You will.”

Ji Mianmian jumped excitedly. “Thank you, Boss! Thank you, Boss!” she squealed. “You’ll grow old together with Miss Qingsi, Boss. You’ll be together forever.”

Grow old together. Be together forever.

Yue Tingfeng rubbed his chin. This girl was not half bad. She had her way around words, knowing how to pique one’s interest. He could give her more opportunities in the future.

“First question: Did anything happen the night two days ago?”

Ji Mianmian considered the question before nodding her head. “Yes.”

Yue Tingfeng’s eyes narrowed; his smile radiated a frightening aura.

Ji Mianmian shivered. She had not said anything wrong, did she?

“The second question,” Yue Tingfeng said. “Does it have anything to do with Ye Shaoguang?”

Ji Mianmian scratched her head. This… Ye Shaoguang had saved her goddess. It sort of had something to do with him.

“Yes… well… sort of…”

Ye Shaoguang widened his smile. “That day… Did someone kidnap Qingsi?”

“This – this – I – I –” Ji Mianmian stammered. She did not know if she should say ‘yes’ or ‘no’. If she said ‘yes’, it felt like she was betraying her goddess anyway.

Sweat beaded down Ji Mianmian’s forehead. Yue Tingfeng kept his eyes pinned on her.

Panic rose in Ji Mianmian. She kept wiping sweat away. “Boss… you… you already know everything anyway, please don’t… don’t ask me anything anymore. You know that I… I’m in a difficult position. I really shouldn’t say anything.”

The menacing smile on Yue Tingfeng’s face made Ji Mianmian feel as though a force of nearly ten tons were weighed upon her head, so heavy that she could not lift it.
