Chapter 492: Sneak-In
Even though Pope muttered under his breath, almost everyone in the Church heard it!
The priests, Bishops, Arch-Bishops, the Saint Knights, and even the only Cardinal who stayed in the Holy See got stunned by his words and stood up from their seats.
Soon, a middle-aged man with multi-colored eyes walked towards Pope and asked in confusion.
"What is it, Your Holiness? Is it an Oracle?""Hmm... It's just a feeling. Maybe is this the warning that the lad told us all this time? Tell the Shadow Angels to strengthen the city's defense. Also, inform the other Cardinals to return from their missions immediately." The Pope's voice appeared serious.
On the other hand, a forced smile appeared on the middle-aged man. He was about to say something but swallowed it back and then asked another question instead.
"What about Bishop Victor, Your Holiness? Should we also inform him?"
The Pope thought for a moment and nodded his head before walking towards the Sacred Church's exit.
In the meantime, the middle-aged man looked outside at the darkened sky through the glassy window and turned grim.
'His Majesty is already on his way? Damn it; there are still three more Awakens staying in the capital now!'
Yes, that middle-aged man was none other than Cardinal Smith.Although he had already sent two Cardinals out of the Holy See, he wasn't happy at all.
Shaking his head, he hurriedly turned his gaze towards the nearby Light Knight and ordered.
"Go and tell Bishop Victor to come here sooner."
Before the Light Knight could respond, he walked past him and moved towards the right-side corridor.
He thought of stopping the Shadow Angels from interfering with his Lord's plan first!
...
It was around 5.10 P.M.
Currently, a nun arrived in front of a three-storied building and looked up at it with shining eyes. It was a residential building specifically allocated for Bishops and Saint Rank Knights.
The nun first looked up at the tall building's terrace and then shifted her gaze towards a particular corner room on the second floor. Simultaneously, she touched her space ring and took a small blade from it.
Then, she made a small cut near her elbow and threw the blade towards the nearby bush.
'This should be more than enough to fool him for some time.' Irzoch muttered inwardly. Although she shape-shifted into a Light Church nun by consuming a random nun's flesh and blood, she was well-aware of the disadvantages of this spell.
'I can manage without that nun's memories, but it's impossible to remove the blood smell from my body. Moreover, Lord Charles said that Victor would notice when I took the mysterious book and come after me. I've to take that book and escape faster.' A grim look appeared on her face.
Then, she shifted her gaze towards the compound wall and adjusted her dress.
Currently, she wore a simple white dress, covered by a black poncho that covered her left shoulder. She looked quite old but had a youthful and delicate figure and held a broomstick in her hand. Her long hair was pulled into a ponytail, showing her long slender neck.
After adjusting her dress, she moved towards the entrance gate and greeted the gatekeepers.
"What happened, Sister Sophie? You came two hours earlier than usual." One of the gatekeepers showed a puzzled look on his face and asked.
In the meantime, Irzoch showed a polite smile and answered.
"Today, I have some other works to do."
"Don't overwork yourself, Sister."
The other gatekeeper said solemnly, unlocked the metallic gate, and let her in.
On the other hand, Irzoch stepped inside, moved on the outer yard, and soon reached the building's main entrance.
She then turned left, casually strolled on the long corridor, and soon arrived near a straight staircase.
Then, she took a step forward and went upstairs. Within a few seconds, she reached the second floor and turned towards the left side corridor before walking towards it.
At the same time, she also looked at the side doors from time to time and observed the surroundings.
It wasn't long until she reached the end of the corridor did she halt her footsteps and shifted her gaze towards the wooden door on her left side.
Then, she raised her soft hand and knocked on the door.
A strange silence appeared in the corridor, followed by walking footsteps from the other side.
Within a few seconds, a 30-years old man opened the wooden door from the other side and looked at her in confusion. He had messy blonde hair, a round face, a hawk nose, thick eyebrows, and appeared muscular.
He was none other than Victor!
"Cleaning? Why are you here earlier than usual?" While asking, he looked at the eerie dark clouds and soon furrowed his brows.
At that moment, he sensed a blood fragrance from the surrounding air and looked at Irzoch in suspicion.
Simultaneously, his eyes scanned her from head to toe and soon focused on her elbow area.
"What happened to your hand?" He asked.
"It's just a small scratch, Father. Nothing serious"
Irzoch paused for a moment and then answered his previous question politely.
"I have some personal work to do after this, Father. That's why I came much earlier today."
Although it was a bit odd for her to come earlier for cleaning, Victor didn't put too much thought into it. Instead, he looked at the dark clouds for a moment and felt an unsettling feeling.
But soon, he dismissed that feeling, turned his gaze towards Irzoch, and nodded.
"Go on."
But just as Irzoch was about to step inside, running footsteps came from the corridor, followed by a young man's shout.
"His Excellency Smith is looking for you, Father! It's urgent!"
It was the same Light Knight which Cardinal Smith sent earlier. The young Light Knight's voice was so loud that everyone in the building heard it!
Victor and Irzoch paused in surprise as they heard his words and turned their gaze towards his direction. As the Light Knight arrived near them, Victor showed a grim look on his face and asked in a hurry.
"What happened?"
The Light Knight shook his head and spoke vaguely.
"His Holiness seems to have sensed something ominous is coming! He suspects that thing might be Flame Demon from your prophecy book."
Upon hearing those words, the corner of Irzoch's mouth turned upward a little but soon returned to normal.
Before Victor or the Light Knight could notice anything odd about her, she lowered her head and shifted her gaze towards the 10x10ft room.
