Genetic Ascension
chapter-488

General Song was still trying to make a decision when he received a message from Grin. The words left him shocked.

Grin was stuck outside? Didn't that mean that Grin had lost a battle?

He had never seen Grin's stats before. In fact, even Sylas had never, let alone General Song. But Grin still gave him an unfathomable feeling, a feeling that Sylas didn't give him by the

same measure.

General Song had always prided himself in his judgment of people, and he had observed Sylas in battle for long enough to come to what he thought was an accurate conclusion.

But now...

'That snake, huh?'

He leaned back in his chair, wondering what to do.

The information was about more than just the snake and Morgan as well. It also made it clear that the new leader of the city was actually the same man.

This made it easier for General Song to accept Grin's apparent defeat. If Sylas had made use of the Generals, then it was only natural.

From Grin's tone as well, it didn't seem like he was asking for help to deal with Sylas either. Instead, his message was far more tailored toward Morgan and their attempts to pin him down.

Clearly, Grin still wanted to deal with Sylas on his own. But by the same token, he needed General Song to apply a bit of pressure.

Even if Sylas didn't care about the Basilisk King, could it be that he was interested in Morgan for the same reasons their Celestial Republic was? In that case, they could have a two-for-

one...

Whether Sylas cared about the Basilisk King or Morgan, the clues pointed toward the fact he would certainly have some reservations about either one of them dying.

That could be used.

The timing of this was excellent. General Song was just wondering what to do when Grin's information fell on his lap.

On the one hand, he now knew that he had a hold of a potential weakness of Sylas, and on the other, many of the System City Generals were occupied trying to make sure that Grin didn't sneak back into the city walls.

There was no better time to act than now.

General Song slowly stood.

"Darla, get my weapons. We're preparing for war."

[What is a Progenitor Flame?]

[The tale of Prometheus is one long spread, and the Flames of a Progenitor represent the very same flare for life and hope. Step onto the Path of a Progenitor, gather Progenitor Flames, and increase your ability to help raise your world to another level]

Sylas read the description of the Madness Key in silence, feeling that it was being far more vague than usual considering just how specific the question was.

He also found it weird that a Progenitor Flame was supposedly supposed to help his world, but how could he help Earth when only he gained access to Progenitor Mastery?

And also, it seemed now that the reason the system was so infuriated was because he had made it one step worse. Not only did the Progenitor Flame not seem to have an obvious ability to help Earth as a whole, but his Gluttony Seed took it for itself selfishly.

If Sylas had to guess, it was likely that he would never be able to use the Progenitor Flame to help out Earth anymore.

[How does the Progenitor Mastery Progenitor Flame help a world?]

[The appearance of Progenitor Mastery allows bouts of enlightenment to occur more frequently on a world. The stronger a Progenitor grows the flames, the more likely it is for geniuses of said world to create new Paths and new skills. When it reaches its pinnacle, it's even possible to evolve to the point where individuals can create new Gene Skills as well]

The understanding dawned on Sylas. It seemed that he had taken something that would have eventually benefited the whole of Earth for himself.

The system had given him a gift to help his people, but the Gluttony Seed swallowed it. Now, the power of the flame would not only be much harder to improve, it would only benefit him and no one else.

The system's main purpose wasn't the evolution of one person, but rather evolution on a large scale. Sylas could understand why it was so mad...

And it also gave him a deeper understanding of just what kind of monstrous thing was hanging around his neck.

The Madness Key... it just might be more dangerous than this Summoning.

Sylas took a breath and pressed those feelings down. Then, making a decision, he directly upgraded Were-for-the-Invincible.

[Were-for-the-Invincible]

[Level: 7]

[Experience: 0/6400]

[Path Talent: Fuse Lv7]

[Fuse (Path Talent)]

[>Fuse with your Contract and gain <100%> of their stats]

[>Fuse with <1> Contract at a time]

[>Fusion process takes <15 seconds> to complete]

[>Fusion lasts <16 minutes>]

After he spent 6400 of his remaining 10,000 Free Experience on upgrading One Kind For Me to Lv8. So he still had 3600 remaining, 3200 of which he just used on Were-for-the-Invincible.

The improvement of the Fusion time from eight minutes to double that would be huge. He had a feeling that the other foot was going to drop soon.

No sooner did he have this thought did he turn toward the portal. A runner came out from it and quickly gave him the information he had been waiting for.

Sylas stood in silence for a long while, deducing many things in quick succession. 'Both the Basilisk King and Morgan are on the frontlines? Could you make it more obvious?'

Sylas could see through it in an instant. They were clearly speculating that the Basilisk King was his. He had already known that this would be a possibility after he brought out the Arctic

Emperor Cobra.

However, while they were scheming, did they think that Sylas was just sitting on his hands?

Much of his life, Sylas held back, falling into line with society and not rocking the boat too much. Much of life was boring to him, so he had everything on cruise control.

But since this world wanted to unleash the real him... he would show them what it meant to stand opposing Sylas Grimblade.
