Don’t Close Your Eyes At Me

Chapter 68: Front and Back Seat

The youthful and spirited students during the day slowly fell silent as evening came.

It was like their courage had left them together with the setting sun.

The third year’s evening self-study classes still continued. Essay analysis, question analysis, and practising difficult exercises were among the tasks they needed to do.

As soon as the little fatty Zhang Ming entered the classroom, he immediately turned silent and obediently returned to his seat.

“Here, pass it back. Do these two readings and we’ll go through it in the next class.” Chinese teacher Yu Luo stood on the podium, divided her stack of papers into six smaller piles and gave it to the first desk on each row.

To avoid students pairing up to chat, the desks in the classroom were single desks; one for each student. You Huo looked around. There are 46 students in this class. There were two seats vacant at the end of one of the rows.

As soon as Qin Jiu and he entered the classroom, they caught everyone’s attention. The little brats stretched their necks out and quietly whispered to their neighbouring seats.

“Who are these two?”

“I don’t know. I saw them earlier at the field.”

“I heard the principal invited them here.”

“What are they here for?”

“What else. It’s obvious isn’t it?”

“Ghost catching?”

“Capturing the great god?”

“They look like this?!”

These were the boys.

“………….”

“!!!”

These were the girls.

They didn’t speak and just grabbed a nearby female student’s arm and shook it like crazy. It was enough with just their expression and eyes alone. They didn’t even need to move their lips to communicate.

There was obvious tacit understanding.

You Huo sauntered over to an empty seat and sat down.

Qin Jiu sat behind him.

Although the seats these two sat at were empty, there were books and pencil cases on the desk. Perhaps it belonged to students who originally sat there but they were unable to come because they were injured.

Those brats used the excuse of passing the paper behind to steal a few more glances.

Yu Luo cleared her throat at the podium. The brats quickly turned back, but their eyes continued to glance back.

It made her both angry and amused.

She internally thought that if they wouldn’t have nightmares if they looked at handsome men, the principal should past their photos all over the school.

But unfortunately, that was impossible.

Short term stimulation like this wouldn’t achieve this effect. She understood these rascals very well.

Sure enough, the students very quickly calmed back down and went back to struggling with their papers.

Only the girl at the very back of the row was still blushing.

She placed the extra paper on You Huo’s desk and quietly glanced at him and Qin Jiu before asking softly: “Do you want it?”

Without waiting for You Huo’s answer, she threw out a word “here”, and quickly turned back around.

The papers stopped there at You Huo. It wasn’t passed back.

Afterall, these were for the students. They didn’t need it.

You Huo casually flipped through the paper and glanced at the article.

Following the suggestions from the counsellor, Yu Luo had specially picked out two witty articles. On one end, it helped with distracting the students. On the other hand, it could also ease the atmosphere at night.

Despite the good intentions, it was hard to tell whether it would work on these students.

You Huo skimmed through the article. No one in the classroom spoke.

The cold, white light shone down from above…….

In the silence, someone tapped his back with their finger.

It was very light, and a little ticklish.

You Huo’s lowered eyes moved a little but his gaze still remained on the paper.

After a while, he leaned back. With his back against Qin Jiu’s desk, he turned his head slightly.

He waited for Qin Jiu to speak.

But several seconds passed and it was only silence behind him. Not a word was spoken.

You Huo turned his head and looked back.

He saw Qin Jiu sitting back against his chair with one hand resting on the table spinning a pen.

His gaze was on You Huo’s side profile. For a moment, he seemed to be lost in thought.

But the moment You Huo turned his head, he returned to his senses.

In the classroom, a student murmured quietly. There was also someone borrowing lead refills and correction pens. It was all done quietly.

The sound of pens scratching against the paper became background noise.

Qin Jiu stared at You Huo like this for a few seconds before raising his chin and saying: “Suddenly forgot what I wanted to say. You can continue.”

You Huo glanced at him. His back was still against the edge of the table.

This time, there was no student mumbling. The classroom was quiet again.

He didn’t speak. After a while, he turned back.

Before the pen in Qin Jiu’s hand could spin a complete circle, You Huo suddenly raised his hand and passed a paper back onto Qin Jiu’s desk.

In addition to the printed questions, there were two additional handwritten marks.

One was in the name box. Someone had filled in “Person B”.

The other was on the lines for the first question. There was an additional sentence – The student in front is Han Ling.

The little fatty’s enthusiasm was helpful. It at least gave them some information.

This includes things he didn’t dare tell the teachers.

For example……..

This summoning dream game actually originated from their class. The first to play it was Han Ling.

She had dug out an old book from the library. Its pages were yellowed, and you couldn’t tell which century it was from. The price of it was 0.36 yuan. One could tell with just a brief look that it was a very appropriate book for superstitions.

Students of this age have very strong curiosity. This was particularly so for spiritual and supernatural things.

Han Ling took a photo of the contents and brought along three friends to give it a try.

Perhaps it was because she had something weighing on her mind and it was consequently reflected in her dream. At that time she just happened to have lost an expensive pen of hers and that night she dreamt that she had found it. When she woke up halfway through the night, the pen was next to her pillow

Something like this happening in the middle of the night was actually very scary.

At that moment, rather than feeling happy, Han Ling was startled awake.

According to the little fatty, that night Han Ling didn’t dare move a single inch. She stared stiffly at the pen for more than two hours and only had the courage to sit up when her roommate got out of bed to go to the bathroom.

That night, her and her roommate didn’t go back to sleep. They spent the entire time staring at the pen.

The next day, news of the game began to spread.

From one to ten, ten to a hundred, the source of the news eventually couldn’t be tracked.

With something so terrible happening afterwards, they were even less willing to mention it.

………………

You Huo and Qin Jiu chose to stay in the classroom with the intention to have a chat with this Han Ling.

Qin Jiu looked at the thin scrawls on the paper, stopped spinning his pen and wrote a reply under that line.

Two seconds later, You Huo’s back was poked again.

The paper that was folded several times was passed across his shoulder and fell onto his desk.

When You Huo opened it, he saw Qin Jiu’s reply ——— Teacher A, as far as I can see, there are six students in front of you. Are you referring to the little girl who blushed after looking at you?

You Huo: “…………….”

Although he knew it was a ridicule, for some reason those words didn’t sound right.

You Huo’s lips moved a little. Holding his pen, he looked at it expressionlessly for a while. He then dropped the pen and decided not to respond.

***

In a blink of an eye, the class was over.

As soon as the bell rang, the students seemingly came to life.

The sounds of zippers zipping, papers being folded, and chatter suddenly filled the room.

It was like a large group of bees was suddenly released.

Some of the students remained sitting in their seats looking at the two visitors as they discussed about their fear for the night.

But the braver students immediately came over and began to ask questions.

You Huo didn’t speak much. With him only spitting out a few words after all that questioning, he clearly gave off a vibe that he was difficult to get along with.

Qin Jiu on the other hand would joke around as he subtly probed around for information.

The young girl Han Ling couldn’t control herself. Perhaps it was because she was affected by their attractiveness and her mind became muddled.

Despite normally unwilling to say anything, she immediately spilled everything when facing You Huo and Qin Jiu.

And so, they learned that……

At first, this dream coming true thing involved a small number of people. It really worked, and the effect even lasted throughout the day.

Later, as it spread and more people became affected; to the point that the entire school was trapped, the dream coming true effect had changed and the time it could last also shortened.

It would only take effect at about 2 o’clock at night. A group of demons and ghosts would create ruckus for a few hours and would then disappear with sunrise.

The living creatures dreamt would materialise, but the setting wouldn’t necessarily appear.

Some clearer objects such as tables and chairs would appear the same as the dream but big items like high-rise buildings, expressways etc wouldn’t appear. Perhaps it was because the cities in the dreams are only vague backgrounds and not very clear.

As for the one thing they were most concerned about, Han Ling also mentioned it.

That is —– What should be done to be considered as cleaning?

Han Ling secretly showed them the photo she took because that book had already disappeared from the library.

In the photo, there was a certain paragraph. If you translated it into human words, it was:

If they can completely remove all the materialised monsters and ghosts from the school before sunrise, the “dream come true” effect would be gone from then on.

In other words, they can only leave this place after cleaning up everything in this school in that short four-hour time frame.

This condition was rather terrible.

But no matter how terrible it was, it didn’t affect You Huo’s sleep.

That night, he fell asleep just after 10.

And then, he was instantly slapped in the face. Strangely enough, he dreamt of a scene………
