1862 Try It

"Do you not understand how rare Time affinity is?" Lu'card finally asked.

He couldn't seem to deal with Ryu just strutting around like this. As far as he was concerned, kicking Ryu down a peg would not only make him feel good, but it would also alleviate the frustration that he was feeling right now.

Ryu raised an eyebrow. "Do you have any idea how many rare abilities I have?"

Lu'card suddenly felt like bashing Ryu's skull in. He could tell the latter's meaning. Ryu never bothered to care or consider how rare or common his abilities were because he had too many of them. Even if individually his talent had been average or common, which they certainly were not, it wouldn't have mattered in the slightest because the sum of their parts would be greatly exaggerated one way or another.

'How did I end up getting pissed off again?'

"You're still not getting it." Lu'card shook his head. "There are a lot of abilities that one can tap into just by being powerful enough. Like, Transcendents already have a small bit of control over space. As you grow stronger, that affinity becomes stronger as well. It's not rare to see high-level beings controlling space even if they were never born with the affinity for it. They can easily make up that gap with strength and other factors.

"Karma is much the same way as well. Over time, a powerful existence's sensitivity to Karma and the Lines of Fate increases as well, especially when it's in regard to themselves and those that are close to them.

"However, Time is just… different. It's just different. Even if one gains an inkling of control over it, it will never be something substantial. It's so much so that even if you use your time affinity now, the likelihood that someone would see through it is nearly nil. They would just assume that it's an advanced application of Spatial Qi granted to you by your Soul Nature."

Ryu was still staring at Lu'card like he didn't care. What was this supposed to mean to him? Was he supposed to just chuckle it up and throw a grand celebration because he happened to have a great talent?

Lu'card was growing frustrated, so he just snorted out a mouthful of sulfur and looked as though he was about to leave.

"Calm down," Ryu shook his head. "It's not just a matter of not caring, but what you're saying isn't necessarily true. Back in Sacrum, the Time Heavenly Pupils were ranked third—"

"Did you not ever consider that maybe it was only ranked third because just like in the True Martial World and your eyes, it hasn't appeared in forever? When did you become so dense?" Lu'card immediately attacked as though he couldn't wait to tear Ryu down. This silver-haired bastard was truly too hateful. "And, unlike your Mysteries of Heaven and Earth eyes, even after so many generations had passed without it appearing, it's still ranked so high.

"In fact, I'm fairly certain that the Time Heavenly Pupils have never appeared. And yet, despite having no Fate backing them at all, they're still ranked number three in Sacrum and number two in the True Martial World.

"Do you understand how ridiculous you are now?"

Ryu shook his head. "Maybe if you had let me finish instead of cutting me off, you would know what I wanted to say. Forget it, it doesn't matter to me that much one way or another. Time is still difficult to use and unlike the spatial aspects of my Soul Nature, I still haven't found the best way to use it yet."

The best ways to use time seemed to be to use it to manipulate others, but the trouble was that even if he had a Time Soul Nature, the amount of stamina you needed to do such a thing was ridiculous. It was far too much work.

He had a major breakthrough in how to use his spatial affinity before. He realized that Lu'card was right about everyone gaining some spatial understanding as their cultivation increased, so he focused on increasing the complexity and the layering of his spatial manipulation so that only those with high affinity would be able to have a natural understanding of what he was doing. That was how he was able to fool even the vision of Dao Lords and even Dao Sovereigns.

However, time… it was more delicate. Even he could easily get lost in it if he made it too complicated.

'I see…'

Thankfully, though, Lu'card had gone on this rant and it made Ryu realize that he didn't need to take the same route for his Time affinity as he did his Spatial affinity. In fact, he could take advantage of his Time affinity to not need to make his Spatial affinity so complicated.

If he could strip down the complexity of his Spatial affinity by relying on time, then the power he could exhibit in battle with space as a support would be severalfold greater.

"Not bad." Ryu nodded after a while.

"Do you know that you're annoying?" Lu'card suddenly said.

Ryu raised an eyebrow. "What did I do this time?"

"When you stare off into space like there's no one around you, and then you come back like you just had a great enlightenment, it's infuriating."

Ryu's lip twitched. He was being reprimanded for being introspective?

"Sounds like jealousy."

"Do you think that I won't bite your head off?"

"We're in an equal partnership now, why would you do that?"

"Equal?" Lu'card snorted in laughter, a whirlwind of space shooting a hole through a mountain. "If I wanted you to get down and bark like a dog right now, you'd have to do it. Don't you know who's subservient in a contract when you see it?"

"Is that so?" Ryu smiled. "Try it."

Lu'card froze, suddenly feeling that something was wrong. He immediately tried to give Ryu a command and his expression changed.

"RYU TATSUYA, YOU SON OF A—"
