Chapter 825: Tranquility in Companionship
After driving ten minutes from the highway in the rural area of Yun Hua City, a lake and a hill could be seen.
There were cows on the hill. Some were strolling about while some went to the lake and drank. Some went straight ahead to rest under the shadow of the trees. They were so relaxed that they looked like the leaders in some state-owned enterprises.
Even when the workers sat in pickup trucks drove over fiercely, the cows looked at them lazily and did not even bother to move away.
“Lift them up!” The foreman in the pickup truck urged everyone to immediately set up the logs that were placed at the back of the truck to set up a bonfire. Then, they set up tents to block the wind and, within 15 minutes, a whole campsite was set up.The foreman looked at the cows with malicious intent. He started to recite the poem with his hands behind his back, “Who dares to oppose me when I want to cross the road?”
The Zebus from Brazil either looked at him at a loss, in contempt, ignored him, or were just too stupid to move. But none of them moved.
“Foreman Li, I saw it very clearly. That foremost cow is ridiculously fat.” The workers cooperated with the foreman and pointed out the cow to be sacrificed today.
“Okay. Those who block the trucks will be removed. This message has been given to all the cows before. Go, give it a swift end!” The foreman posed handsomely and let the wind in the farm blow through his shirt, making it flutter loudly.
The workers swarmed up and pulled away the fat cow that seemed lost.
Soon after, a big black bus stopped at the campsite that was newly set up.
The foreman immediately ran over and waited in front of the big bus with his back bent.Tian Qi and Ling Ran came down after one another.
Ling Ran looked around curiously. He always had a sense of curiosity and thus, he was the most serious and meticulous student during the dissection sessions during class. So, Ling Ran had many questions to ask about this hidden farm cum meadow that was near Yun Hua.
“Why is there a meadow here?” Ling Ran was born and brought up at Yun Hua. When he saw this stretch of grass covered land, he could not help but feel some emotions stir in his heart, just like when a man who lived in the desert saw a big manmade lake.
The meadow in front of him had real grass growing on it. If he did not turn around and look at the highway, he will have the misconception that he was staring at grass over an endless stretch of land with wind blowing through it, and when he lowered his head, all he saw will be cows and sheep.
Tian Qi thought carefully and said, “For the meadow… In the beginning, I had a piece of land, so we planted some vegetables to supply greens to our family. Later, I think we used it to rear chickens, ducks, geese, pigs, and other animals. Then, someone in the family opened a restaurant and did not have a place to keep purchased cows, I think? I don’t quite remember…”
The foreman looked at Ling Ran tentatively. He then saw the obscenely handsome young man nodded and agreed to what Tian Qi said.
The foreman immediately lowered his head in case others saw his expression. Miss Tian’s reason was so bad that it was not even worth deliberating to know that it was fake. Was it really okay to think that it was the truth?
But to Ling Ran, some excuses did not need any sort of pondering to be accepted.
Take, for example, the fruit stall in front of Yun Hua University, when he went and bought fruits, he could always get the fragrant and sweet fruits, but when his coursemates went and bought them, the fruits differed in quality. Was there any reason worth pondering over why this was the case? Of course, there was not.
Ling Ran nodded and saw the workers carrying a big cow over.
“Is this the Zebu brought over from Brazil?” Ling Ran looked at the cow’s body, which was just pure flesh.
“Yes. I thought of grilling the whole cow, but Chef Zhu said that while grilling the whole cow is only for aesthetic purposes, it won’t taste good.” Tian Qi looked at Ling Ran’s expression, smiled, and said, “If you want to eat a whole roasted cow, we can make an appointment and have one done another day.”
“Let’s try today’s cow first.” Ling Ran looked at the meadow, which was something he rarely saw, then looked at the sky slowly becoming dark, and he felt a great sense of comfort in his heart.
Tian Qi felt happy when she saw that Ling Ran was happy. She gestured for someone to come over and take over all the details of getting the cow ready. Then, she sat down with Ling Ran and said, “Do you want to grill the beef on your own, or do you want the chef to do it for you?”
“Let the chef do it.” Ling Ran smiled. “I already grilled a lot of stuff today.”
The barbeque taste made from the endotherm knife was not comparable to grilled beef.
A chef who looked rather familiar personally used the knife and removed a tenderloin from the cow which had already been processed and was hanging by the side before he cut it into big pieces, skewered them, and grilled them on the spot. He then whispered in a low voice, “Chef Zhu is making the beef entrails inside, but I often cut up the cow and roast the beef as well.”
“Thank you.” Ling Ran did not care about it either way, and he did not say much either.
The view in the sky was not bad, and the heat from the bonfire was warm. It was the exact temperature that made him feel most comfortable.
Tian Qi also relaxed.
It was only when she saw two skewers of beef being served in front of her that she snapped out of her daze and smiled. She took one of them and passed Ling Ran the other. She asked, “Are you still busy lately? Did you perform a lot of surgeries?”
“Yes.”
“You perform more surgeries than other doctors, right? What’s the feeling of performing so many surgeries?”
“I feel good most of the time. I performed a stomach cancer surgery a few days ago… Hmm… If humans have four stomachs, the surgery will be simpler,” Ling Ran said while looking at the cow at the side.
Tian Qi thought about it and said, “But cows can’t go having one stomach missing either, right? Therefore, the probability of getting liver cancer should be four times higher for them, isn’t it?”
“It is not quite accurate to calculate it this way either” Ling Ran thought about it and said slowly, “It should be around one time to four times higher, but we’ll have to analyze the entire situation again if we want to think about the specifics.”
“Make sense.” Tian Qi agreed on it.
Ling Ran touched his chin and thought for a moment. Then he ate the beef skewer and asked, “What have you been up to recently?”
“My grandfather asked me to take over a few companies to practice my skills.” Tian Qi pursed her lips, “Compared to your life, that’s much more boring. All of them are companies that are not entirely necessary in the market. The only reason to buy them is just to get rid of potential competitors and increase the occupancy rate of our company. This kind of thing will happen every few years. It’s really boring. But doctors don’t have to worry about their competitors, right?”
Ling Ran thought about it and nodded slowly. “Doctors will always have multiple paths available for them to take when it comes to their development, just like Department Director He from the Department of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery. He is now focusing on liver cancer and bile duct cancer.”
Tian Qi certainly knew about He Yuanzheng. She covered her mouth and smiled. “It might also be because companies aren’t humans. That’s why companies will always greedily try to take in all resources available, but doctors are human. There will come a time for them to retire and eventually die.”
Ling Ran nodded. “The golden period of a doctor’s life is truly short.”
“That won’t happen to you, Doctor Ling.” Tian Qi smiled faintly and passed one newly grilled beef to Ling Ran.
The blazing bonfire illuminated the grass around them and caused the beef to release a fragrance of the meadow, which can never be found in the beef served from restaurants in the city.
The quiet starry sky seemed to look at the ground, giving off a sense of alienation, but it also brought forth a precious tranquility to the place.
Around the campsite were more than ten men and women who were dressed in the traditional clothes of the indigenous people. They danced quietly while around ten workers pretended to be Mongolians and sang songs as they drank. More than ten bodyguards who acted like knights galloped back and forth on horses, causing this silent and tranquil moment that would never leave one feeling lonely or bored.
