Yan Su was stunned. She had just realized that she did not know much about Mo Liuxi before.

As the old saying goes, ‘To know a man is to know his past.’

Mo Liuxi explained, “I was all about making money at that time. Many times I saw him developing his game when I went to the computer lab. So I had my eye on him. After observing him for a while, I knew he had the talent. Otherwise, I would never have talked to him.”

Chu Jiu was glad to hear Mo Liuxi’s words, but his smug face soon disappeared. “Hey, that’s a bit harsh!”

Yan Su laughed out loud and asked with curiosity, “So how did you get that one million?”

Mo Liuxi paused for a while, and then answered, “Part-time jobs, and saving as much money as I could.”

Chu Jiu quickly said, “He had three jobs, and only slept five hours a day.”

Yan Su felt tears in her throat. She promised herself that she would treat Mo Liuxi better from then on.

After bowling, the three went for Cantonese food.

Dinner was finished. Chu Jiu rented the room, paid the bill, and left. After all, it was Christmas — he did not want to be a third wheel.

Yan Su stopped him and friended him on WeChat.

Once Chu Jiu left, Mo Liuxi crossed his arms with displeasure. “Why did you friend him on WeChat?”

“To know more about you.” Yan Su glanced at Mo Liuxi. “I feel that he is a friend who truly understands you. He’s seen you at your worst, and at your best. Others, like Zhang Hongchuan, may hang out with you quite often, but they do not know your past.”

Mo Liuxi froze for a bit, but he believed Yan Su was right about that. He then said, “Is my past that important? You just need to know my present and my future.”

“If you truly like someone, you would want to know his past, present, and future,” Yan Su said. She took Mo Liuxi’s arm and smiled.

Mo Liuxi’s heart raced and he could almost hear his own heartbeat. He looked at the woman next to him with mixed feelings. “Susu, it’s Christmas today. We should have the day to ourselves, but I asked you to come out to meet with my friend…”

“It’s alright. I am a public figure, so I couldn’t go to public places anyway.” Yan Su’s eyes fell on the street where endless cars came and went. The traffic was particularly heavy as it was Christmas. There was a huge traffic jam. “Well, let’s go get some milk tea. I haven’t had any in like, forever,” Yan Su said.

Mo Liuxi was lost in his thoughts for a few seconds. He remembered that he and Yan Su loved having milk tea near the school. Mo Liuxi smiled and nodded.

They spent the whole time together.

Not long after Christmas, it was almost New Year.

‘Asia’s Top Singer’ was going well. Yan Su was eliminated in the 10th episode. At the end of the day, she was too young to be in the competition. When Yan Su left, she said her goodbye to the show and the audience with tears in her eyes.

Mo Liuxi watched that episode in the living room when it was on-air. Mo Jin felt sorry for Yan Su and said, “I won’t watch this show if Susu is not in it anymore.”

Xu Zhengxuan was puzzled. “Since when did you become so close with Yan Su? You are calling her Susu now?”

Mo Jin glared at Xu Zhengxuan. She then turned around to have a look at her son. Mo Liuxi was chatting on WeChat. “What are you doing there, son?” Mo Jin asked.

She walked to Mo Liuxi and she saw on his screen: ‘There there, baby…’

Mo Liuxi covered his screen quickly, turned around, and gave Mo Jin a stern glare, “Don’t disturb me when I am chatting on WeChat!”

Mo Jin shivered and felt a bit sick. Was this the same cold, distant son of hers?

Xu Zhengxuan felt the two were about to get into a fight, so he jumped right in, “Your mom said she wants to visit her dad in Luxembourg this New Year. How about we go on a trip to Europe? A lot of people are spending the New Year overseas now.”
