Su Run didn’t even reply her.
She felt increasingly uneasy and decided to finally go up to the courthouse to take a look.
While she was on her way to the courthouse, she suddenly received a WeChat call from Su Run.
“Lawyer An, I’m sorry, something happened to my boss just now. I was busy accompanying him to the hospital and missed your call,” Su Run said hurriedly.
“Your boss?” An Lan’s mind blanked for a moment. A horn sounded loudly from behind her car and she was jolted back. She quickly drove the car to the side of the road.
“Are you talking about Baohan? What happened to him?” she asked.
Su Run answered, slightly annoyed, “After the trial this afternoon, the plaintiff decided he wasn’t satisfied with the holding and went upstairs to attempt to commit suicide. Baohan tried to save him but he was pushed down the stairs by him instead. Thankfully, the firemen had already placed air cushions around the area which reduced the impact of the fall. However, he was still injured and had to be admitted to the hospital.”
An Lan sucked in a breath of cold air. She thought about how tall the building of the court was – even if there had been an air cushion surrounding the block, it would have be difficult for him to fall and remain unscathed.
“Are his injuries serious? Is he beside you now? Is it convenient for you to pass the phone to him to talk? Can he still talk?” she asked.“The doctor in the ambulance is checking him right now. It’s not very convenient for him to speak to you, but rest assured, his life is definitely not in danger. He hasn’t lost a leg or an arm,” Su Run then quickly told her the address of the hospital, “Lawyer An, are you coming over now?”
“Of course, I’m definitely coming now.”
Her boyfriend had fallen from a building and so she was definitely in a hurry to get to the hospital. Nevertheless, she was still slightly relieved when she heard that his life was not in danger.
After hanging up the phone, An Lan immediately followed the navigation route to the hospital. It was rush hour and the traffic was very heavy. She decided to stop at a parking lot on the side of the road and take the subway instead.
After switching trains twice, she finally arrived at the hospital at 7.30 am.
When An Lan first caught a glimpse of Xu Baohan, he was being pushed out of the CT room. He was lying on the hospital bed with a neck brace fixed on his neck. His hair was a little messy and his eyes were closed. His handsome face was slightly pale and entirely smooth. He was just lying there, his entire body deep in a peaceful sleep, as if he was shielded from the commotion around him.
This sight made An Lan’s heart ache.
She had failed to truly understand him in the past because she never really interacted with him, causing many misunderstandings. She only began to slowly understand what he was like after talking to him. He had always been independent, upright and impartial. He was not affected by what the world thought when he tried cases. However, there are still ignorant people who do not understand the difficulties judges like him face. They would only praise him for his integrity if they win the case but if they lose, the first thing they would curse and insult him behind his back.
Nevertheless, his heart and resolve never wavered.
If not for his luck today, he might already be dead.
With these thoughts running through her mind, An Lan took a deep breath and walked over. When Su Run saw her, he said hurriedly, “Lawyer An, you’re here.”
An Lan nodded at him, her gaze focusing on Xu Baohan, “How did the doctor’s examination go?”
“There’s nothing wrong with his internal organs,” Su Run said happily, “It’s just that his neck was injured when he fell. His head also absorbed some impact so his hearing seems to have been affected. The doctor said this effect is only temporary. He’ll have to rest a lot but he’ll slowly recover.”
An Lan nodded. No wonder he didn’t react when she spoke earlier, she thought.
“Is he asleep now?” she asked.
“I don’t think so. It’s just that his head might be experiencing some discomfort and his eyes are probably still not adjusted to the light, so he kept them closed. I’ll let him know that you’re here now,” Su Run bent down to talk to him.
An Lan stopped him. “Since his head isn’t feeling well, let him rest for a while. Does he have any other examinations that need to be completed?”
