Battle for Tiamo (2)

We were located about 3 kilometers from Tiamo.

Since we were a kilometer high in the sky, we could see the battle between the soldiers and the magical beasts that seemed to be hugging the city.

(All 4 cities are being sieged. Is there any city that might fall?)

Tiamo was not the only city under siege.

As confirmed by the [Eagle Eye] of E-rank Bird summon, the 3 cities guarding the southern part of Rosenhiem, as well as Tiamo, were currently fighting back against the Demon King’s army.

Other than Tiamo, 3 other cities also received buffs from DCB-rank Fish summons before the war started.

There were no absolutes in war, but so far the offensive and defensive battles seemed to be going without a hitch.

We moved to a position about 500 meters from Tiamo. We also lowered our altitude and stopped just above the ground.

“Let’s get started. Let’s see, I can only summon 37 more.”

I used my Grimoire to check the number of summons that I could summon. I had already used 33 of the 70 slots.

  • 2 in Rodan Viallage
  • 1 in Viscount Granvelle’s mansion
  • 15 in support of the northern part of the Central Continent
  • 2 in Nest City
  • 8 in 4 cities under siege, including Tiamo
  • 5 B-rank Bird summons that we were riding

The Rodan Village had E-rank Bird and B-rank Spirit to watch and guard the village.

Each of the 5 cities of Rosenheim, including Nest City, had a F-rank Bird and B-rank Spirit summons as a liaison and combatant.

“37 is not enough. Isn’t 15 too many for the Central Continent? You sent a lot of medicine too, so why don’t you reduce it?”

Cecile peered into my Grimoire from behind.

To save summon slots, Cecile and I, and Sophie and Formar were sitting 2-seater. B-rank Griffins were large, so there was no problem with 2 people riding.

“Well, the battle is about to start over there, too. If they get defeated there, we will have more manpower here, but there’s no need to reduce it myself.”

The detachment took days to get to the northern part of the Central Continent. I had given them some recovery medicine, and I was sure they could use it all up after they get hit.

“Hmm.”

With that said, I began to summon B-rank Insect summons one by one. I summoned 30 of them at intervals of 100 meters along the outer wall south of Tiamo.

In addition, I summoned 5 B-rank Dragons. There were only 2 summoning slots left.

“Okay, Alipon, use [Spawn].”

““…””

Since the distance I traveled while summoning them was 3 kilometers, I used F-rank Bird’s [Transmission] to make all 30 of them use their awakening skill [Spawn] at once.

Then 100 giant eggs appeared in front each B-rank Insect summon. All together, there were 3000 eggs.

The eggs turned into a glowing bubble and disappeared, revealing a total of 3,000 B-rank Insect summons that looked the same but were about half the size of the egg.

B-rank Insect’s awakening skill was to produce 100 children that were half the size and half the status of itself. I named the children born from this awakening skill “Child Alipon”.

The cool down time was 1 day, and since a summon could only be active for 30 days, an Alipon could use [Spawn] up to 30 times. A Child Alipon could also exist for up to 1 month unless it was killed. The maximum was the maximum duration of the parent Alipon’s existence. A Child Alipon would disappear once the summoning period of its parent summon expired, and would also disappear if the parent summon was returned to the Holder as a card.

A Child Alipon born from the [Spawn] awakening skill had following status:

[Name] Child Alipon

[Strength] 1300

[Mana] 500

[Attack] 1200

[Endurance] 2000 (reinforced by parents)

[Agility] 2000 (enhanced by parents)

[Intelligence] 1000

[Luck] 900

[Special skill] Formic Acid

“All right, Alipons, keep the child Alipons moving.”

““…””

At my signal, the 30 Alipons advanced with the Child Alipons born from their own awakening skills toward Tiamo.

Even though they were children, there were 3,000 of them that reached 5 meters in length.

They also had [Endurance] and [Agility] that reached 2000.

The parents, B-rank Insect summons, were strengthened to 4000 [Endurance] and [Agility] beforehand, so their strengthened status was reflected in the Child Alipons.

“Kiel! Sophie! Cast your support spells. We’re going into battle.”

“Oh!”

“I understand, Master Allen!”

Kiel and Sophie cast defensive support magic on all of us, including the summons.

Their support magic also worked on the Child Alipons.

“Harami, Fin, use your awakening skills.”

“…”

D-rank Fish and C-rank Fish couldn’t talk, but they understood me, and started swimming through the soil. Then, sparing no magic stones, I re-summoned the and used their awakening skills. They buffed everyone in the entire area, including the Child Alipons.

“Gembu, go around and use [Turtle Shield] and [Turtle Barrier].”

“Fuuh! I understand. You want to make these old bones make the rounds.”

B-rank Fish, who spoke in a grandfatherly tone, went around using its special skills while pulling out only its shell from the soil.

[Turtle Shield] reduces damage taken by 20%. [Turtle Barrier] reduces damage taken by 50%. Their combination would reduce the damage taken by 60%.

Note that B-rank Fish’s damage reduction is effective against physical, magical, and breath attacks.

The [Turtle Shield] had a 24-hour effective duration and was effective for allies within 50 meters.

The [Turtle Barrier] had a 1-hour effective duration, and its area of effect was any allies within 100 meters.

(If they don’t take a hit from the Hero’s Extra Skill, they won’t die instantly.)

When I fought Helmios the Hero, I had used [Turtle Shield] and [Turtle Barrier] on myself and B-rank Stone summon. Even so, both me and B-rank Stone were injured quite severely. It showed how powerful the Hero was.

“Go as fast as you can!”

“”…!!!””

After all the buffs were applied, I let them run forward in formation.

I could command the Child Alipons, but I basically left it to the their parents.

We were less than 100 meters from the tail end of the Demon King’s army, but we didn’t care.

We then attacked the many magical beasts that had been watching the outer wall of Tiamo from behind. The first attack was a wide area breath of B-rank Dragon summon. It went around burning all the magical beasts at once.

When the Child Alipons were in close contact with the Demon King’s army, I gave them new instructions.

“Use [Formic Acid]!”

Using F-rank Bird as a messenger, I gave instructions to the Child Alipons spread over 3 kilometers east and west at once.

Even Child Alipons could use [Formic Acid]. The acid lowered both [Endurance] and resistances, and was sprayed from the hips and was effective against enemies within a range of several tens of meters, and magical beasts without poison resistance could die from the acid alone.

It had an effect similar to that of an acid, so it was especially effective against Armor-type magical beasts.

“Again and again!”

Following my words, they kept using their special skill without stopping.

The troop of elves on the outer wall looked at the ants and us in surprise.

“Those ants are reinforcements, there’s no need to attack them. Just aim at the magical beasts in front of you!”

(Not many arrows were coming our way. I thought some might come.)

The Generals were all talking about not attacking my summons.

The elven soldiers understood and concentrated on attacking the magical beasts in front of them.

B-rank Dragons reduced the magical beasts whose [Endurance] and resistances were reduced to charcoal.

Since [Formic Acid] lowered all resistance, it also lowered breath resistance. And Cecile, who was behind me, also attacks with Wind Magic.

It was because those magical beasts who didn’t die from the Breath of B-rank Dragon on top of the [Formic Acid] most like had very high resistance against Fire Magic. So she was attacking with a different attribute.

Consider your opponent’s resistance and attacking them accordingly is the basis of battle. Cecile had been using Non-Fire Magic more often since I started being able to summon B-rank Dragons.

The elves’ arrows began to kill the magical beasts in front of them. The magical beasts, whose [Endurance] had been reduced, began to die more than ever from the arrows of the elves.

“Don’t let them get away. Annihilate them all!”

I shouted.

The battle that day was aimed at destroying the enemy, not to mention defending the city.

It didn’t matter which direction it might have been, but I wanted to destroy all the enemies on one side of the wall.

We attacked the south side because the main camp in the north had not moved till then, and the south was certain and had the most magical beasts.

My objective was magic stones.

I was converting B-rank magic stones to [Blessing of Heaven]s to be distributed to the 4 cities that were at the frontlines, including Tiamo, but they were dwindling at an alarming rate.

I would run out of B-rank magic stones after that defense battle. At that time, I had given away most of the [Blessing of Heaven]s, and I only had a thousand or so magic stones left.

To recover a magic stone after killing the magical beast, I had to dismantle it. And I wouldn’t be able to dismantle them if other magical beasts were in the area. I had to eradicate all the magical beasts so that I could collect magic stones.

I had heard that if they knew they’re going to lose, they would retreat, so I decided to sandwich them time to make sure none of them could escape.

Kurena and Dogora also wielded their weapons with all their might.

Some of the magical beasts understood the situation and tried to retreat.

However, the Child Alipons interfered with this.

The status of a Child Alipon was generally higher than that of a Madegarsh.

Their [Attack] wasn’t that, but it could get help, and it had the power to overrun any B-rank magical beast in the area.

The Child Alipons began to crush the magical beasts with their large jaws, determined not to let any of them escape.

(After all, it is Child Alipons who will shine the brightest in the war. Numbers is power. They are neither awakened nor strengthened, but they can produce such results.)

I couldn’t use <Strengthening>, <Sharing>, or <Awakening> skill on Child Alipons. Fish summon’s buffs and support magic of Kiel and Sophie worked, but my Summoner-based skills didn’t.

However, they had achieved more than any other summon in the war.

In an hour or so, the Child Alipons had reached the outer wall.

The front of the outer wall was covered with the corpses of magical beasts.

(Hmm, we were able to eradicate them as usual, weren’t there any S-rank class magical beasts? There weren’t that many.)

As I analyzed the results of the battle, I heard the elves’ shouts of victory from the top of the outer wall.

“Dora-Dora and Alipon, go to the east and west walls for support. If there are too many of them, they’ll get in the way of collecting the magic stones.”

At my orders, we split into 2 groups, and started moving to hunt down the magical beasts on the east and west walls that were still fighting.

I left a 100 Child Alipons on the south side and had them make a cut in the abdomen of the magical beast with their jaws to make it easier to collect the magic stones. I would have B-rank Spirits carry bags to collect them later.

Less than an hour later, the magical beasts from the east and west that could not be surrounded were fleeing to the north.

As the elves on the outer wall shouted for joy, the siege of Tiamo ended in victory.
