Chapter 208: I’ll Only Wait Half A Day!
Ye Lingchen nodded. At the same time, Grandmaster Yu and the other doctors also chased after them.
Patients with Wind-Heat Syndrome Flu were isolated because the disease was too contagious. They were in a separate area. Any individual that was detected to have Wind-Heat Syndrome Flu would be sent to the isolation area of the hospital.
Metropolis Hospital was very large. Walking along a corridor with Grandmaster Jiang, faint cries came from up ahead. Some came from children, but there were also adults crying.
“It’s just in front,” Grandmaster Jiang sighed. He could not help but show pity on his face. After walking forward, Ye Lingchen was a little stunned.
There was a huge open space before them, but it was already full of people by then. Many of them had reddened eyes, and others were crying.
There was a building in the distance, of which all the walls were made of glass. One could see children and a small number of adults within the building. They stood there looking at their loved ones.
The children looked very pallid, crying continuously as they feebly looked out.
“That building is the place used by Metropolis Hospital to isolate patients.” Grandmaster Yu said. He could not bear to look at it. “We’re helpless to do anything.”
Wind-Heat Syndrome Flu was particularly contagious. Once a person was a certified carrier, they were forbidden to remain outside. Measures could only be taken gradually after the pathogen was kept under control. Letting them remain out in the open would only worsen the situation and infect many more people.
Ye Lingchen nodded in acknowledgment.“That glass is for patients and their family members to visit each other. Many children already suffer from high fevers and lie down inside with no regard for anything else. We will regularly let medical staff go in for treatment and care.” Grandmaster Jiang walked with Ye Lingchen.
When everyone saw Grandmaster Jiang coming, they instantly rushed over like a tide in eager anticipation.
“Grandmaster Jiang, is there a cure?”
“Grandmaster Jiang, please help my child, he’s so young, I’m already kneeling for you!”
“Grandmaster Jiang, how much money does it take to cure this disease? We have money, money won’t be a problem!”
“Grandmaster Jiang, let my child come out. We won’t let him be treated anymore. Let me hug him. I promise not to let him touch outsiders.”
…
They were sobbing undertones in their hoarse voices, akin to drowning individuals who were trying to reach out for one last hope.
Grandmaster Jiang’s eyes turned red suddenly. He took a deep breath and forced himself to remain calm. “We have found a viable treatment. The miracle doctor next to me can cure the Wind-Heat Syndrome Flu!”
Whoa, whoa, whoa!
At that moment, everyone’s eyes focused on Ye Lingchen and they all seemed to forget how to breathe.
It could be cured?!
They could hardly believe their ears! They feared they would wake up from their dream if they said anything.
“Those who want treatment can take your child to that treatment room,” Grandmaster Jiang continued and pointed to the clinic not far away.
However, no one had not spoken yet. Grandmaster Yu’s group strode in like meteors and had ugly expressions on their faces. “This person isn’t a doctor in our hospital. His treatment only represents himself and Grandmaster Jiang. It has nothing to do with our hospital!”
Those cold words halted everyone’s breaths!
What did that mean?
Grandmaster Yu took two steps forward. “With our current hospital technology, we have yet to find a cure for Wind-Heat Syndrome Flu. There is no cure in the entire world!”
His words made everyone’s heart sink and their faces were lined with despair!
After a pause, Grandmaster Yu glanced at Grandmaster Jiang and Ye Lingchen, “However, the miracle doctor claimed that it is curable, so I won’t prevent you from receiving treatment. But if something goes wrong, our hospital will not be responsible. The so-called miracle doctor does not have any medical qualifications, so you may all decide for yourself!”
That sentence barely stopped short of stating that Ye Lingchen was a scammer.
Be that as it may, the man was only telling the truth and informing the crowd of the stakes involved.
Instantly, the once-excited crowd looked at Ye Lingchen in silence and hesitated.
Ye Lingchen looked at the crowd and then at Grandmaster Yu. He could not help but shake his head and smile, feeling some bitterness in his heart.
His eyes were calm, and he remarked plainly to the four old doctors. “I have a question to ask you. Even if I am a fraud, what will I achieve with my lie?”
His question made everyone slightly stunned.
The four old doctors looked at each other and frowned.
Ye Lingchen was right—why?
Generally, the only thing on a scammer’s mind was money. However, Ye Lingchen never mentioned anything about money, and even if he was a scammer, he could not run anywhere since he was within the hospital.
“What good does it do me if I cure it? On the contrary, if it’s not cured, I would be in even bigger trouble. Tell me, what could I possibly be planning?” Ye Lingchen continued to ask.
Seeing that everyone was speechless, he turned to look at the tormented children in the quarantine area and finally took a deep breath. “Half a day! I’ll only stay here for half a day. If no one wants to be treated, then pretend I never came!”
He saved people out of conscience and did the best he could. If they knew not of how to seize the opportunity, then they should just be allowed to die by themselves!
At the end of his speech, he walked into the treatment room alone. He closed his eyes and calmed his mind.
Time ticked away, but no one stood up. It was very silent, except for the crying children.
“Why are you still hesitating?! If we miss this opportunity, we’re all going to be sinners in the entirety of China!” Grandmaster Jiang’s anxious eyes were red. He did not try and persuade Ye Lingchen because he knew that Ye Lingchen had done his best.
He would have been infuriated too if he received the kind of treatment that Ye Lingchen was subject to.
“There’s no cure for Wind-Heat Syndrome Flu yet. Why not give it a try?” Grandmaster Jiang attempted to convince them.
“Do you want me to hold on to hope when there’s none?” Grandmaster Yu sneered. “I’ve been practicing medicine all my life. Prudence is elementary. I will not be influenced by my emotions, and be taken advantage of by a liar!”
“You’re so pedantic!” Grandmaster Jiang could not help but scold.
Grandmaster Yu kept quiet and walked over to the quarantine zone. A boy of seven- or eight-years-old was leaning on the glass and staring at him with wide eyes.
The little boy’s hand was still had an IV drip and his face was tired as if he would faint at any time.
“Grandpa, when can I go out?” the little boy asked.
“Soon. Grandpa will be able to think of a way to cure your illness.” Grandmaster Yu was choking slightly when he spoke.
“I know Grandpa will come up with a solution. Many children here are crying, but I’m the only one who didn’t cry. I always comforted them and told them that my grandpa would save us.” The boy’s voice filled with pride.
“Mm. Wait for Grandpa.” Grandmaster Yu quickly turned his head and used his hands to wipe the tears from the corners of his eyes.
At the same time, every parent was looking at their children through the glass. It was a thin piece of glass, yet they seemed to mark two different worlds. They were so close, yet worlds apart, and there was nothing that could change that.
They gazed at the treatment room from time to time with conflicted looks in their eyes…
