After the awards ceremony, Ye Lingchen was added with another title of recognition as a curve breaker. For some people, they felt as though they could see countless eye-catching titles above his head when they saw him, making it difficult for them to look at him up close.
Ye Lingchen felt the plaque was quite heavy after weighing it. Of course, he did not mind that the plaque was made of pure gold. He only wanted to show it to his parents.
Noticing that it was only 10am and he had nothing much to do, he took a taxi and headed straight for Capital City’s city center.Xiao Feifei previously brought up the suggestion to start a filming company. To be honest, her efficiency was unbelievable. Within just a few days, the company was already registered.
Its size was by no means big. One might even consider it on the small side.
The storefronts in Capital City’s city center were worth more than gold. Even after throwing in tens of millions, one could hardly have an effect. Furthermore, there was a need to set aside some finances for the company’s operations.
When Ye Lingchen arrived at the location, he was stunned when he saw the signboard of the rather small filming company. He was unsure whether to cry or laugh at that.
From the looks of it, he lacked a proper understanding of the situation. If he knew of this earlier, he would have invested more.
Walking into the company premises, the interiors were in good condition, with new walls and tiles. There were a total of three receptionists to greet customers.
“Hello. Are you here to drop off your resume?” asked one of the receptionists. “You can drop it off here. We’ll give you a reply within three days.”“I’m Ye Lingchen,” Ye Lingchen answered calmly, shaking his head.
“Director Ye?” All three receptionists were caught by surprise, standing up immediately. “Good morning, Director Ye.”
It would seem that Xiao Feifei had already briefed them on Ye Lingchen’s existence.
“May I know what Director Ye is looking for over here?” one of them asked.
“I’m just here to have a look. Where’s Sister Feifei?”
“Director Xiao is on the third floor.” The receptionist led Ye Lingchen forward. “Director Ye, please follow me.”
Along the way, Ye Lingchen inquired about the company’s situation.
The company was just only founded and most positions were yet to be filled, therefore they were urgently hiring. The first floor was for greeting others, the second floor was used for interviewing those whose resumes passed the selection process, while the third floor was for the offices and meeting rooms.
It was a simple layout, which also displayed the haphazard nature of the company.
However, just as he passed through the second floor, Ye Lingchen was slightly taken aback. It was not from the lack of people, but rather, too many people!
With a simple glance, the second floor was separated into multiple smaller, partitioned rooms. It was obviously meant to be used for individual interviews. As for the other areas, they were packed with people, with them either standing or sitting down. All of them were nervous and anxious, some even working on their interviewing techniques.
In the crowd, there were quite a number of handsome guys and pretty girls. Some of them even looked…Uhm, special.
“Are they all here for interviews?” Ye Lingchen asked curiously.
“That’s right.” The receptionist nodded, then explained, “Director Ye, the number of people trying to achieve their celebrity dream is plentiful. Even for a livestream studio, there’s high demand. Even the status of an internet celebrity is that alluring, it’s even more so when it comes to a formal filming company like ours.”
There was a hint of pride in her voice. “Furthermore, our company is founded by Director Xiao. Director Xiao’s status in the entertainment industry is definitely on the top. Add to the fact that some of her good friends have joined the company as well. Countless people would even dream of entering our company! What you see now are just the interviewees. We receive easily a thousand resumes a day, and those are the ones submitted physically. If we include the online submissions, then it’s just too many.”
Ye Lingchen nodded in agreement. That was truly the case.
Once the contract is signed with a filming company, that was a guarantee to their career as an artist. Even the worst would be better than an extra. If they were lucky, they might achieve great fame.
Amid their conversation, Ye Lingchen arrived at Xiao Feifei’s door.
He waved his hand, dismissing the receptionist. Meanwhile, he looked inside through the window.
In the room, Xiao Feifei and Sister Lin were engrossed in reading through piles of material, occasionally taking a drink of water.
Who knew how long they were at it, but the materials in front of them had piled up into a small hill.
Ye Lingchen suddenly felt bad. As a background boss, he seemed to be a tad irresponsible.
Nothing was ever easy. Be it Zhang Yunxi’s cosmetic store, or the filming company now. The effort and suffering behind the scenes were never shown to the public.
Without witnessing it for himself, he truly did not expect there to be this many concerns to settle.
Thunk thunk thunk!
A knocking sound on the door could be heard.
“Come in!” Xiao Feifei answered simply without even raising her head. “Place the script on the left, resumes on the right. Anything else goes to the middle.”
After some time without a response, she finally frowned and lifted her head. “You…”
Without completing her sentence, she was stuck in a daze, as though she was dreaming. She then asked in surprise, “Lingchen? You…why are you here?”
Sister Lin raised her head as well, looking at Ye Lingchen curiously.
“Sister Feifei, you’ve lost weight.” Ye Lingchen walked up to Xiao Feifei, feeling saddened. He then said with some self-loathing, “It’s my fault.”
He remembered that Xiao Feifei told him about her dreams to be carefree. Who would have thought that she would end up even busier than before?
“Lingchen, this is my own choice. I’m already content for having your support,” said Xiao Feifei with a smile. “Furthermore, it’s unavoidable for a company to be busy right after its founding. Everything will be fine once the operations are settled.”
“Sister Feifei, why didn’t you tell me that our finances were running low?” Ye Lingchen frowned as he asked.
“Are you stupid?” Xiao Feifei rolled her eyes at Ye Lingchen. “We have already invested a lot of money into this. A storefront of this size is already considered huge in the heart of Capital City. Furthermore, we need to hire screenwriters, actors, and also purchase scripts. They all cost money.”
“You call this big? The other filming companies all have their own buildings, with dance studios, recording rooms, break rooms, and so on. Moreover, our security for this company is lacking as well. It should at least have some security tags right?” Ye Lingchen mumbled.
On his way up, only the second and third floors had two security guards. Xiao Feifei was a famous celebrity, but he did not expect her to be in such dire straits after leaving the managing company.
The average celebrities would always be accompanied by a team of bodyguards.
“You think money just falls into your lap?” Xiao Feifei was almost at her wit’s end. “Our current employees can’t even fill this building up! It’s just a waste of money. When we need to use those special facilities, we can just rent them outside. That’s the safest way.”
Ye Lingchen was trying to add on but was cut off by a smiling Xiao Feifei. “It’s alright, Lingchen. Even if you’re rich, the money should not be spent willy nilly. Our current setup is optimized. It’s not too late to think of expansion after the company starts making money.”
Ye Lingchen sighed, giving in to her argument.
