Chapter 14: Going to the Front Lines (2)The next morning.Steve packed his personal belongings and left the training base covertly. None of the recruits knew of his newly classified mission. Only Kyle knew the Super Soldier Program had just begun down in an underground base.
… … …
Another day passed.
Officer Brandt called all the recruits and had them gather in the square, later informing them the end of the Super Soldier Program which caused vehement uproars among the recruits.
Kyle knew the course of history. If true to the story, the first superhero, Captain America, was born.
… … …
In the Chief’s office.
“It’s a bit regretful and saddening. Doctor Abraham Erskine is dead and the secrets of the serum are no longer available. Kyle, you’ve lost your only change.” Joseph Kingsley spoke of his melancholic sadness. He felt sorry for the kid.
“Well, this is God’s choice.” Kyle responded with a sigh, but truthfully so, he felt nothing.
He could extract skills. Who says he can’t become a super soldier through this means.
Kyle opened his mouth and asked, “Sir, I heard the program was successful and Steve is good. Can you let me go and see him?”“I’m afraid not.” Josef Kingsley shook his head, explaining the severity of the situation. “Currently, Steve’s held in a secret base doing personal training to adapt his body. General Chester strictly ordered that no one should disturb him.”
“When will the training end?” Kyle questioned anxiously.“In a few months, I’m afraid.” Joseph Kingsley answered truthfully.
“Months…” Kyle frowned. The plot seemed to follow the film. Steve’s training was closed to the outside world… that would mean that it’d be impossible to extract his skill cards.
“Worry not.” Joseph Kingsley slapped his shoulder. “Months will pass by quickly. By the way, General Chester has new orders for you. Because you’ve shown exemplary performance during this training period, you are to join the 102nd Infantry Regiment and participate in their current mission.”
“You mean, I’ll be heading to the front lines?” Kyle’s eyes widened. The sudden drop of news surprised him unexpectedly.
“Kyle, you’ll be heading to war. Don’t die so easily under the hands of those Nazis.” He placed the combat uniform, rifle ammunition, as well as files containing the information for his mission on the desk.
“I’ll obey the general’s orders.” Albeit confused, Kyle grabbed the items. He did not expect he’d participate in the World War so soon! The plan was to extract Steve’s skill cards and head to war with great strength, but for it to be so sudden… he suddenly regretted showing off.
Joseph Kinglsey bid him goodbye. “There will be a transport plane arriving to pick you up this afternoon. You should go back and prepare.”
“Yes.” Kyle nodded and walked out of the office.“Come back alive, boy.” Joseph Kingsley uttered a low sigh. No matter how talented a soldier may be, there always exists the possibility of death hanging over their shoulders in this line of field.
Pushing the door open, the warm rays of the sunshine heat washed him and swept away the haze in Kyle’s heart. He soon relaxed and smiled freely. He thought about the high-level skilled men in the special forces. They’d have great abilities to pluck. If he’s able to acquire them, there’s no reason for him to die on the battlefield!
To become stronger, one must hang on the balance of death.
After the self-fulfilling encouragement, Kyle felt refreshed and he marched forward with ease and confidence.
