I Hate Systems
-
chapter-287
He was still unsure as to what the necessities were to create a Personal Fragment. Based on what he was introduced to, a Personal Fragment was something that was created when the remainder of a System within the Host was fused into an object originating from their homeworld.
Technically speaking, a System Slayer was only supposed to have one Personal Fragment. After all, they were birthed in only one world—their homeworld. So, even the notion of having a second Personal Fragment didn't make any sense, much less a third one.
But, since it happened once, Compass Carburettor was of the mind that it could happen again, as long as he figured out the right means to incorporate the laws of the world into himself.
In the Darble World, it was the Dungeon that formed the core of their world's laws. And through obtaining control/ownership of one, he obtained the qualifications to obtain a second Personal Fragment.
'If it's like this, then it means that as long as I'm able to achieve the prerequisites, I should be able to form a Personal Fragment in every world I enter. That would allow me to grow powerful without having to become a True System Slayer and risk becoming the target of a Grade 2 System.' He thought. His goal was only to save Stencil. He didn't wish to have strength beyond what necessitated his objective.
Since the thermometer was a success, he focused on the brick within the Mental Energy Form. It represented his Skill of Strength.
Just as he had done for the thermometer, Compass Carburettor eventually pushed the brick within the sphere too, sensing his body turning a notch stronger in response.
Upon seeing their effectiveness, he continued forth in the same manner. And, when he was tired, he took a sound nap. From time to time, he made the goldfish eat the nutrient solution produced by the Vitality Bowl.
After swallowing enough until it felt like bursting, the goldfish fell asleep, processing the food slowly, beginning to produce Mental Energy. The quantity of Mental Energy it produced already surpassed what he was receiving from the fortress, shocking Compass Carburettor.
"As expected of its modifications. It wasn't holding back at all."
He then asked Grisha, "In your previous loops, was there ever a goldfish mutated beast?""The one that the horned people were looking after?" She asked in return. And upon hearing his reply, she said, "Nope, not once. That apartment complex was destroyed by a cat mutated beast that became frighteningly strong rather quickly. In all my loops, it was terrifyingly powerful. In the loop I was a companion of Rhizen, he had only managed to kill it by luck. But it was a pyrrhic victory."
"I see," Compass Carburettor muttered, asking another thing he was doubtful about, "How did Rhizen treat Chenger?"
"He trusted her the most in that loop." Grisha said, "And, even in the heat of the moment, he never slept with another woman. He was pretty devoted to her while she had blind faith in him."
Compass Carburettor continued to ponder after that as he soon resumed his meditation, sending one item after another into the sphere that represented the dimensional storage.
Ring (Dexterity), Battery (Stamina), Book (Cognition), Jar (Natural Recovery), Flute (Five Senses), Pillow (Resting), he sent all the Skills into the sphere.
And finally, his gaze rested upon the Acorn that represented his Skill of Intelligence, also sending it into the sphere, 'Why an acorn though?'
He then focused upon a lens, the representation of the Core Skill of Info Scanner (Level 10), hesitating. He was unsure if this was a good move or not, unwilling to damage the Core Skill that he had obtained from the Coincidental Luck System.
"Screw it, only death awaits me otherwise." Gritting his teeth, he calmed himself before focusing on the lens, slowly moving it into the sphere. At first, there was a lot of resistance, but after some time, the sphere gradually swallowed it.
He gazed at his status, seeing the Core Skill of Info Scanner had vanished. But, he thought of using it, realising that he was still able to do so. Moreover, it was stronger now, giving him a clearer perception of things.
It was no longer limited to Systems alone, also allowing him to gain information about his surroundings.
It had become similar to an appraisal skill.
At this point, he no longer hesitated, sending in Slave Harem and Directional Misalignment too, feeling him growing strong a little bit. Immediately after, the sphere automatically grabbed hold of the System Fragments of Overdrive (Level 8) and Permanence (Level 99).
Overdrive wasn't a proper System Fragment—as it was only gained from a Host's body part and not after refining the Overdrive System. So, immediately after it was absorbed, Compass Carburettor could feel that it was broken down and absorbed by the sphere.
"Dammit, I didn't want to waste Permanence!" He grunted in response, intending to stop it, but was too late. The sphere had swallowed it too as Compass Carburettor slumped on the ground.
Suddenly, he felt pain in his stomach as his space was forcefully ripped out before being swallowed by the dimensional storage, causing Dita to scream in his mind, "Uncle! I feel…"
"Dita! Are you alright?" He shouted in response, hearing the cobra's voice turn a notch weaker.
But immediately after, she chirped in excitement, "I feel stronger now, Uncle!"
"Phew," He sighed in relief, relaxing as he observed the changes continuing in him as only three entities existed within his Mental Energy Form now: Anthozoa (Gun), Secret Society (Symbol of double 'C'), Dimensional Storage (Sphere).
This time, the changes seemed slow, requiring a lot of time. But, Compass Carburettor had time on his hands now, patiently sensing the changes within him as he soon noticed that not only was he unable to use his mutated beast abilities, even his Darlac had vanished. The Vitality Bowl also disappeared.
At present, he was at his weakest state. Thankfully, he was in the middle of nowhere, with not a life in sight.
A day passed in such a fashion before the changes completed as a mysterious power brimmed within him. Upon seeing it, Compass Carburettor smiled contently. For, he had attained it.
Third Personal Fragment!
