Chapter 82: Tricky Pretense

There was only one person who knew the real Eleonora Asil was dead, and that Noah had taken over her body. In other people’s eyes, she was a criminal, and Kyle would be an investigator conspiring with the villain.

There would be no greater dishonor if it was revealed to the public that a general manager, the top investigator, had attempted to conceal a suspect’s crimes. Besides, ‘it doesn’t matter who you hurt’. It was unbelievable that it came from the mouth of a man who lived for the Crown and the people.

“I already said that’s not something Miss Noah should be worried about. I’ve already said it three times. Shall I repeat it one more time?” Kyle said, his voice was rather tired.

“What if I take Mu and use him? If I take advantage of the power of dragons like the real Eleonora…”

“I know you won’t.”

“How can you be so sure?”

“Because evil is done by a diligent, meticulous person. A man who’s been lying in Battuanu for five days under the pretext of seasickness can’t plan such a grand thing.”

“That… sounded like an insult.”

“That’s an illusion.” Kyle replied; his tone incredibly gentle.

Noah was prepared to be enraged, insulted as it was nothing more than a slip of a tongue. But strangely, she kept feeling nauseous. Thinking she was about to snap on him, Kyle placed his hand on her forehead and said, “You still have a slight fever. Don’t whine about being sick again and take a nap.”

“…..”

“You’ll be in Tezeba without a hitch when you wake up.”

His tone softened even more as Noah remained silent, comforting her as if he was dealing with a sensitive child.

“Nothing’s going to happen after we get there. I’ll take care of it on my own, so what are you worried about? I didn’t mean to scare you.”

Silence.

“Miss Noah?”

“…Sir, I’ll hire you if the Bureau of Investigation fires you.”

“As a butler? No, thank you.” Kyle flatly rejected her offer and immediately grabbed her as she was about to flop into the bed.

“Miss Noah, change your clothes before you lie down on the bed! Wash your face!” He reprimanded.

“What? I washed up in the morning…”

As usual, her excuse would amount to nothing. Kyle then handed her an armful of clothes and pushed her into the bathroom.

*

Noah stayed in the bathroom for a long time, saying she was too lazy to change her clothes. Soon, she lied on the bed and kept staring at the investigator, insisting she couldn’t sleep. Kyle, who was supposed to head straight into the captain’s office, was forced to wait until she fell asleep.

In Sorrent, whenever her head touched the bed, she immediately fell asleep, but this time, she endured for nearly an hour, her head dropping almost every minute.

Her fever is almost gone…

Noah, who was lying on her side with Muell tightly hugged like a doll, began to doze off after another half an hour. Still, Kyle remained in place for a few minutes after she completely fell asleep. It was because he remembered the child’s words that Noah suddenly had a fever while she was sleeping.

She takes a lot of effort, he thought. He rubbed his eyes, somewhat tired. It had been long since he had had a decent sleep. Perhaps he had slept less than half a day since the day Muell called, wailing.

Kyle stayed up almost all night giving instructions in the Tezeba headquarters regarding the suspension of the railroad network, but after Muell’s call, he rushed to Battuanu, driving by himself, which resulted in another night of no sleep.

Upon arrival, he witnessed a wonderful sight of the Minister of Magic with Noah. It upset him recalling what Adrian Rossinell had said when he passed by him.

“My Eleonora, please take good care of her, Sir Leonard.”

Observing the amount of conversation between the two, it seemed they had become quite familiar in a short span of time. Enough to have the man in the bedroom.

When Kyle pondered about it, however, Noah was a woman who didn’t care when he stayed in her home. He had rummaged through her house, lifted and carried her to the bathroom, prepared meals for her, and even took her to bed — and she showed no hint of alarm.

She remained indifferent, even now, when a man was right by the bedside she was sleeping on. The same thing happened with Adrian Rossinell, and the thought of it made Kyle feel sour.

He was worried whether or not he should say something. However, he also deemed it ironic to nag a grown-up woman to watch out for men. Moreover, it was Kyle himself who was the biggest problem in that regard.

Noah was so blunt that he forgot about it, but it was manners and unwritten rule that even a fiance could not enter a lady’s bedroom without permission. He realized it only after he had spent the night at the inn where Noah was staying and had booked a single room on the ferry.

It’s a completely different issue to pretend to be a couple and to use one room like a couple.

“…I’m crazy. I’m not really her butler.” Kyle covered his face, massaging his tired eyes.

In fact, last night, Noah said that her head hurt at dawn, so he forced himself awake to watch over her.

…Damn it.
