Limitless Sword God
chapter-529

Fame and fortune clouded the eyes of all men.

The most desirable item of all time: longevity.

Everyone wanted that.

The ordinary man might think that saints were the definition of immortality.

Because they only lived for a short hundred years, mortal men were easily impressed by saints.

An experienced practitioner would know better. True immortality, the escape of the reincarnation cycle, was nothing but a futile dream.

Saints were powerful alright, and they lived for a long time.

But they were not resistant to the corrosion of time and age.

It'll catch up with them, eventually.

Who had ever seen a billion-year-old spirit?

So, practitioners knew that the higher your cultivation, the longer you lived!

If you could attain the great sainthood, your mortality would be enhanced for sure!

All practitioners lusted over this grand prize.

To live or to die.

Living was everything.

It was understandable for someone to go manic to achieve this feat.

Duan Peng had shut up.

He had doubts about Chu Yu's situation, but he was like everyone else!

He wanted to crack the age-old game, to become immortal.

He wanted to be a Great Saint.

To live!

The identities of these people were complicated, they were from all over the place.

Some of them were earthlings.

There were about thirty of them in total.

They were a force to be reckoned with.

Without Yi and the reinforcements from the other powers, Chu Yu was in a vulnerable position!

It could be their best shot.

"Stop hesitating, come on everyone! There must be a price to pay for our reward at the end," a man in a long white robe said encouragingly.

He was an ancient saint from earth.

He had attained sainthood 60,000,000 years ago, he had sealed himself off when the great war began.

He was in a deep slumber when he woke up, most of the disciples of his Daoist field were dead and gone.

His sect began to frail as the resources grew sparse.

There were only about a hundred of them left, and they were all weak practitioners.

They were elated when he showed himself after centuries, they thought it was their comeback.

But he was cold and apathetic, he didn't pay them any attention and he left them.

After that, he had been observing, waiting. Waiting for the chance to strike again.

He spent his years recruiting others to join his cause.

He saw Chu Yu's growth and progress over the years.

He was also watching Yi, the protector of Earth.

They were always watching, always alert.

And today, their time had come.

There was no time for hesitation.

The practitioners were all quietly thinking to themselves.

It was a defining moment for them!

Acting now meant that there was no backing out.

They were staking in high chips, it was either ride or die.

They needed to be sure that they were all on the same page!

Chu Yu's vitality, tokens and the Cauldron… they all wanted it for themselves.

But the truth was that no one could embezzle all of it for himself.

It would be great to have one of them!

They were all wary around one another, worried that someone was going to backstab them…

That would be devastating!

They knew that they could only trust themselves.

Not even family, definitely not their colleagues.

But they needed each other, to accomplish the same goal.

"Let's do it!"

They were resolved.

The silence was broken and they were going to attack the floating city.

The group of them were driving this small asteroid towards their destination.

The defense squad had detected them immediately and reported to their superiors.

Soon, word had reached Chu Yu.

Ming Hui, Song Qing and the rest of the party were back with him.

"They had come for us…"

"Then let's kill them!"

Demon King Xue was driven and determined. The deaths of his troops were still etched clearly in his mind, he needed to channel his hatred to something productive.

He was set ablaze.

"Are we all ready?" Chu Yu looked at Lin Shi and Xu Xiao Xian.

Xu Xiao Xian had already set up layers upon layers of magical formations lying in wait. It was a minefield out there for any intruders.

She nodded her head, "Yes we are, just waiting for the fish to catch the hook.".

"Great," Chu Yu's body underwent a marvelous transformation.

His wounds were healing and they were all disappearing.

He reappeared before the crowd full of energy and vitality.

Even Ming Hui gasped, "This man is a demon, I tell you," he thought to himself.

Perverse!

He was so powerful!

The fortress charging towards them was going at lightning speed.

Some of the formations in the solar system were activated.

The asteroid had set off ripples of energy waves.

"Let's crash our fortress into the City to test their defense mechanism first," one of the creatures proposed.

The rest agreed.

They were cautious. They knew that the floating city had to be protected by powerful formations.

They couldn't afford to make any mistakes, one mistake and it would be all for naught!

Ride or die!

At the same instant, the satellites on earth captured the trajectory of the small asteroid heading towards the City of Skies. The planet was buzzing.

"Who are they?"

That was the question most people had in their minds.

All eyes were on the city.

Other creatures on other planets had also detected foreign activity in their peripheries, they were watching the situation intently.

On Mars, the Butterfly Saint was watching them as well, he looked a little puzzled.

Yi was long gone, Chu Yu was critically injured, and his trusted officials were in search of a great pill for him… he had heard all about Chu Yu's predicament.

Something was up.

Yi was definitely gone. He knew that the divine power had reached the end of his journey, never to return.

Perhaps, there was something fishy going on about Chu Yu's situation.

He was different from other cowardly saints, he had taken part in the great war. And he survived.

His experiences exceeded that of most mighty saints.

With his doubts in mind, he stayed put.

Robbing sacred objects wasn't so easy!

He watched the situation quietly.

The other senior saints watching Chu Yu was anxious for him.

They acted first, they were going to stop the asteroid in its tracks!

Just as they approached the flying asteroid, thirty saints or so hopped off from the fortress.

There were humans and there were demons.

"Leave us! Mind your own business!"

They warned the old priest from Neptune.

The old priest looked taken aback, he didn't know that Chu Yu had gathered so many enemies within the solar system.

They were all powerful beings, saints. There was no way he could predict how things would go from here.

"Cut the bullsh*t! Let's go!"

One of the saints charged at the old priest.

About seven of them followed suit.

The old priest was mad, he swerved and disappeared from the site into the distance.

"What are you all trying to do?"

"Stay out of our way old guy, this has got nothing to do with you!" a young saint retorted back rudely.

The fortress was close to the floating city.

The citizens had gathered outside their houses.

There was still no sign of Chu Yu!

The invaders were glad.

They were still anxious about Chu Yu's fighting abilities. After all, they had heard, they knew that he would be a tough nut to crack.

The old priest and the powers from Uranus had joined forces as they tackled a small group of the invaders.

There were scary thunder claps resounding about the cold empty space.

It was a clash of techniques and cultivation!

Another group of them were lunging at the falling fortress.

Boom boom boom!

The metallic fortress had crashed into the formations Xu Xiao Xian had set up and it had exploded with a deafening boom!

An asteroid like that could cause devastating damages to a large planet.

If it had managed to land on the floating city, the entire city would have collapsed immediately!

Thankfully it had landed on one of the formations and it was detonated before it hit the ground.

It was a dramatic explosion!

The residual quakes had left the citizens in shock.

They were terrified, disaster was averted right before their eyes.

They thought that their invaders were crazy.

How could they do that to the City?

Without the formations, they would have been made into toast!

The fortress was blown up into pieces as it laid entrapped in the defense formations.

The shards of debris were thrown everywhere.

"What a vicious formation!"

"The formations are that powerful?"

The invaders were in awe.

They didn't expect the defense mechanisms to be this solid.

Ming Hui looked at them maliciously, his telepathic message rang out loud and clear.

"Arrogant fools! There's no heading back for you guys today!"

Ming Hui was standing at the forward of a group of Ming practitioners.

They were a new clan, yearning to be recognized by the masses.

This was time to prove their worth. All the warriors looked intense and fiery.

"Kill!"

They began charging under Ming Hui's command.

They outnumbered the invaders!

Their opponents looked unfazed.

One of them said casually, "So, it was a trap, too bad your men are useless!".

He took out an enormous net.

It was so huge it covered a huge area and it was laced with powerful forces as it was cast over the floating city.
