Chapter 303: Like a Couple
There were no violent objections from the other members of the Saints Convocation to Lilian’s sudden arrival. Those zealots believed that he was the Holy Envoy, which led to them having almost unconditional trust in him. As long as Roel was alright with it, it would be alright with them too.
On top of that, unlike Roel, Lilian was respected right from the moment of her arrival. Part of the reason was because the disciples weren’t certain of the relationship between her and their Holy Envoy, and the other part was due to the overwhelming strength Lilian had displayed.
They would have to be a fool to turn away an Origin Level 3 transcendent at a critical juncture like this, not to mention that Lilian was no ordinary Origin Level 3 transcendent.
Last night, in order to find Roel, Lilian and her armies had devastated the backlines of the Salvation Brotherhood, greatly relieving the pressure on the Saints Convocation’s side. Needless to say, that was an amazing accomplishment. After careful consideration, Roel and Lilian decided to portray themselves as lovers instead of siblings. While the two of them were good-looking, they had vastly different vibes to one another—Roel felt more gentle whereas Lilian was an ice beauty. Besides, their eye colors were completely different too.
At the same time, claiming that Lilian was his lover would also explain her lack of understanding about the Saints Convocation, thus making it less suspicious if she were to do anything that looked out of place.
Fortunately, the Saints Convocation was rather liberal when it came to its disciples’ marriages. It wasn’t as lawless as the Salvation Brotherhood, but having a lover wasn’t an issue at all. After all, this was also one way of bringing in new disciples.
Due to Lilian’s lofty disposition and her powerful strength that completely didn’t correspond to her age, rumors swiftly began spreading amongst the disciples that she was actually the daughter of some high noble who had chosen to elope with Roel. For that reason, no one dared to ask her about her family name.
This spared them quite a bit of trouble, though it was interesting to note how the truth could sometimes be more unbelievable than fantasies. Lilian’s identity was definitely not just at the level of ‘a daughter of some high noble’.
With such thoughts in mind, Roel turned to look at Lilian, and the latter looked back at him with her head tilted questioningly. Her adorable reaction and gentleness in her eyes made Roel’s heart skip a beat.
“Senior, you look good in a gown.”“I-is that so? I’ll wear it more often if you like it.”
To conceal his embarrassment, Roel forcefully slipped a compliment in, but Lilian was surprisingly happy with it. The atmosphere between the two of them grew more harmonious, to the point where it felt like they had really become a real couple.
With even the two of them feeling this way, there was no way outsiders would be any wiser.
Due to the negotiations falling apart, Roel immediately got the Saints Convocation to tighten their defenses. It was almost certain at this point that a fight would break out, but what was different this time around was that Roel was no longer interested in participating in it.
Due to his reunion with Lilian, his greatest goal with the Saints Convocation had already been fulfilled. What was left now was to wait for the academy to communicate with them.
Meanwhile, Roel took this time to look at his System.
【Evaluation: 66 (Average)】
【Countdown to the end of the Witness State: 177 hours 42 minutes】
Roel was surprised by the evaluation since he didn’t think that he had done anything significant. He didn’t kill any monsters or clear any major objective he knew of. He did manage to reunite with Lilian, but the credit should be attributed more toward her than him. The negotiation shouldn’t be worth that many points either.
He couldn’t imagine how his evaluation went up by this much.
Does this mean that something else is happening in a place where I can’t see, such as the pendant I sent into the academy?
Roel’s eyes gleamed in excitement. That definitely spelled good news for them.
That being said, he didn’t think that ‘Academic’ or ‘Guardian’ would make a move any time soon. Given the current circumstances, even fellow members of the Assembly would have to think twice before aiding one another, not to mention that he was likely to be viewed as an ‘unknown variable’ at the moment.
So, he decided to take this waiting period to rest up. Lilian had fought for two consecutive days now and direly needed rest whereas Roel was still suffering from the effects of Glacier. Once the adrenaline from the reunion died down, all that was left was fatigue.
After making arrangements, Roel brought Lilian back into his room in order to rest. It was so as to not look out of place since they were currently assuming the identity of lovers, but even if they could, they wouldn’t want to be separated from one another at this juncture.
On one hand was their nervousness from having lost one another right after entering the Witness State, and on the other was the problem of their safety. They were currently spies in the enemy camp, so it would be much safer for them to move together.
Lilian was well aware of that too, but they still ended up getting into a quarrel with one another regarding that.
“I’m your older sister, so you should be the one sleeping on the bed.”
“How can I let you sleep on the floor? You take the bed instead.”
The two of them were convinced in their stances and refused to budge an inch, but they eventually came to a compromise. Considering that they were in an enemy camp, they decided to take turns.
One of them would sleep while the other stood guard.
Technically speaking, Roel hadn’t slept for five days now—he could hardly catch a wink last night due to the lingering cold aura from Glacier. Even with his enhanced constitution as a transcendent, he was already at his limit. In comparison, Lilian had only stayed up for two nights after entering the Witness State.
So, it was decided that Roel would rest first.
It was nearly midnight by the time they finished up their dinner and retired to their rooms. For the first half of the night, Roel slept peacefully under Lilian’s protection. Having a kin by his side gave him an ease of mind that allowed him to sleep peacefully.
The usually boring sentry duty was also oddly enjoyable for Lilian too. Just by looking at the young man fast asleep on the bed, she couldn’t stop her lips from creeping upward.
It was a really weird feeling for her.
The sudden arrival of someone important in her life made her feel as if she had fallen deep in love. Thinking about him made her happy, and seeing him induced a strong urge to get close to him. Even just listening to his breathing filled her heart with warmth.
She had never felt this way before, and she cherished it greatly.
But at the same time, she knew that such happiness was only good in small portions, same as sweet sugar. Having too much of it would only twist the nature of their relationship. She feared that her feelings would go haywire once more under the effects of her bloodline if she were to get too immersed into it.
With a reluctant sigh, she walked away from the bedroom and headed to the little lounge a small distance away.
…
When Roel opened his eyes once more, he found himself sitting on a familiar jade throne. Unlike the first time he came here, the sky was completely dark. There were no torches in the audience room to provide illumination, but a faint glow was coming from the purple flowers in the flower field beneath.
It looked like he was surrounded by a sea of twinkling stars, making it all feel surreal.
A white-haired witch dressed in a dark-colored gown was currently sitting in the midst of the flower field. Her madder red eyes were focused on the flowers around her as she carefully picked out those that were in full bloom. There was already a bundle of them in her hands.
What’s she doing? Are witches interested in flowers too?
Roel stared at the silhouette beneath silently, not making a noise at all. However, there was no way he could conceal his presence from Artasia.
“Welcome back, my hero. Can you give me a moment?”
Artasia lifted her head and greeted him with a delighted smile, not surprised by his arrival at all. Roel nodded his head in response, intrigued as to what she was up to.
A moment later, Artasia plucked another beautiful flower before directing a hard look at the flowers she had gathered in her arms. After a careful scan, she nodded in satisfaction.
“This should be enough,” she said with a mesmerizing smile.
The next moment, she appeared right in front of Roel and showed him the flowers with a gleeful look on her face, almost as if she was asking for his compliments.
“Hehe, how is it? These are Reverie Flowers exclusive to my domain. Aren’t they beautiful?”
“Yes, they are.”
“What a relief! I was worried that you wouldn’t like them. There should be no problem using them as materials then.”
“Materials?” asked Roel doubtfully.
Artasia nodded in response.
“Yeap, materials.”
As she spoke, she released her grip over the flowers and opened her arms wide. Instead of falling to the ground, the flowers floated in place and started intertwining with one another. In a matter of moments, a crown was weaved out of the flowers.
“This is the crown that I have specially made for you, my hero. Do you like it?” asked Artasia innocently.
