Chapter 505.2: Fusing Blood (2)
Unimaginable power burst forth from Roel’s drained body as the Kingmaker Bloodline fought against the foreign bloodline attempting to coalesce with it. Its fierce retaliation caused Charlotte’s bloodline to quiver. The two forces fought to exert their will, causing Roel’s body to shudder nonstop.
“… Stop, Charlotte. Your body will… Cough cough!”
“Darling!”
The sudden influx of mana from his bloodline temporarily roused Roel’s consciousness and granted him the strength to speak. He immediately understood what was going on and tried to stop Charlotte’s suicidal behavior, but the latter paid him no heed.Instead, her mana flared with even greater intensity than before.
A vast starry sky unfolded behind Charlotte, and the Goddess of Fate’s avatar slowly appeared from the constellations. The Balance of Fate she carried in her hand was wavering unstably.
This was Charlotte’s bloodline ability, Arbiter of Fate. It was a cheat ability that allowed one to directly interfere with fate. In order to save Roel, she had decided to put everything on the line.
“I’ll stake all ten coins!”
“Wait, Charlotte!”
“Darling, you said it yourself. We’ll be together, be it in life or in death.”
Before the vast starry sky, Charlotte spoke with a gentle smile on her tearstained face. Roel found himself at a loss for words. One by one, the ten coins that represented Charlotte’s life fell onto the scale. The already wavering Balance of Fate shook even more under the influence of the coins, and their bloodlines started to intertwine with each other.
Roel prayed for her to remain safe while Charlotte did everything she could to wrench him away from death’s grasp.
This was going to be a long fight.
As both of their bloodlines became more deeply intertwined together, the Balance of Fate shook with even greater vigor. It was almost as if they were fighting against the world to force a miracle to happen. The commotion continued for a long time before everything slowly came to a rest.
In the end, the balance fell in Charlotte’s favor.
The moment everything was decided, Roel and Charlotte felt a mysterious sensation coming from their bloodlines. They could sense their bloodlines losing their aggression toward each other and slowly fusing into one.
At the same time, the temporary surge of mana Roel had received earlier dissipated, causing him to pass out once more.
…
Tonight was a special night for the humans of the Sia Continent.
In a barren land far away from the other countries, a young man had used himself as bait to challenge an enemy that countless civilizations had deemed to be insurmountable, only to emerge victorious in the end.
This was a feat that was comparable to the accomplishments of legendary heroes that bards sang of in the taverns.
There was no doubt that this matter would have huge repercussions on humankind, especially considering the time of the occurrence.
If one looked at humankind’s history as a novel, the war of the deviants would be the decisive arc that shaped the future progression of the story. Any incidents that happened during this period of time would naturally have its repercussions amplified, especially one as big as this.
While the deviants made frightening enemies, they were still mortal beings that could be killed with swords and spells.
On the other hand, the Six Calamities were a whole new story. They lurked around without leaving any trails, and they left devastation in their wake whenever they appeared. Their enigmatic nature made them much more fearsome.
Ever since the disappearance of Tark Stronghold, all of the eastern border fortresses had been gripped by an atmosphere of fear. They deployed more sentries and patrols than ever, fearing that Shrouding Fog would come after them next.
In that sense, Roel’s accomplishment had brought confidence back to the forces of humankind. His victory proved that the Six Calamities weren’t insurmountable monsters, thus bringing them a sliver of hope. This would give them the courage they needed to raise their weapons against the irrationalities of the world.
From the moment he defeated Flooding Death, he had already become a hero of humankind. This title would grant him tremendous say in international affairs, but at the same time, it would also place him in far greater danger than he could ever imagine.
In an unknown forest on a faraway mountain range, a thick fog billowed in the night. The forest was eerily quiet as if all of the animals had been spirited away, allowing the fog to parade its dominance. Every now and then, the billowing fog formed the outline of a massive face looking at the moon.
For some reason, it seemed to be exceptionally active tonight.
Under the moonlight, the fog swirled restlessly around the mountain range though it kept itself prone to the ground, not daring to rise any higher. A while later, it seemed to have sensed something and turned its face elsewhere. Moments later, it began to quietly drift in that direction.
As the Six Calamities began to make a move, the Origin Level 1 Race Sovereigns all over the Sia Continent also rushed out of their rooms to look at the moon.
On the walls of one of the eastern border fortresses, an armored old knight looked at the moon with sharp eyes while the two young women behind him revealed worried looks.
In an office in the Country of Scholars, a white-robed principal grimly clutched onto a staff.
At the heart of a resplendent palace, a middle-aged man’s eyes flickered with a glint, but it was impossible to read his thoughts through his impassive face.
In a beautiful forest located in a dungeon, a brawny old man stood up from his resting chair.
In a church in the Holy Capital, a white-haired old man slowly opened his eyes to look at the moon in the sky. Moments later, he shook his head and said, “No, that is not that monster.”
The golden-haired woman beside him lowered her head in disappointment.
In the midst of an unknown darkness, a man with a blurred face gazed at the moon in the sky and murmured to himself.
“What an unnatural speed of growth. Is it because of those girls?”
A long time later, he heaved a deep sigh.
“I’ll have to hurry,” he muttered before melding into the darkness.
