chapter-715
The scythe, raised high above, seemed to hover for a moment — a heartbeat suspended in time.
It cast a long, ominous shadow that stretched toward Azazel like a dark premonition. The world seemed to pause, caught in the tension of the impending strike.
In that breathless moment, Azazel's grin widened, a paradoxical expression of acceptance and defiance. The scythe descended, a swift arc cutting through the air. The blade, honed for the reaping of souls, aimed for Azazel's neck with lethal precision.
In the dire moment when defeat seemed imminent, a sudden burst of energy cascaded through the battlefield.
The demon soldiers, including the one holding the scythe, were blasted away.Azazel's grin widened. "Took you long enough."
When the dust settled, Ren, Elena, Evie, and Lorelai appeared.
Ren sighed as he surveyed Azazel's sorry state. "What are you doing?"
"You still alive?" Evie asked with a lack of concern.
"Azazel?" Elena was surprised to see the kid. "You're still here? I thought you'd already run away."
"Good, you're still here!" Lorelai said and cracked her knuckles. "It's payback time with those beers. And this time, you're not going to cheat me."
Azazel didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Can that wait? I'm dying here.""Yosh! Time to save this village and make the villagers pay for tying us up after this is done and over with!" Lorelai shouted.
Before the others could say anything, she blasted into the demon soldiers' ranks, defeating enemies left and right.
Ren and the others didn't bother to waste another breath on her.
"Elena, go save the injured. Evie and I will go save those villagers," Ren instructed.
"Got it," both Evie and Elena said simultaneously as they got to work.
"H-hoi . . . w-what about me?" Azazel croaked, reaching his hand out to the others, but Ren and his group were already away, leaving him on the verge of dying on the side.
"You guys are so cruel . . ." Azazel lamented, tears flowing in his eyes.
With Ren and the others finally joining in, the battle had turned. Lorelai alone reduced the number of soldiers to more than half.
In a synchronized surge of power, they unleashed a torrent of magical energy that swept through the soldiers, turning them into mere smoldering fragments.
The soldiers were caught off guard by the sheer ferocity of the attacks. The villagers, who had been struggling against the overwhelming force, now stood in awe as Ren's group carved through the opposition like a tempest.
Lorelai, in particular, seemed to channel all her anger and frustration into each swing of her weapon, creating shockwaves that reverberated through the battlefield taking multiple targets in one strike.
A powerful blow from her sent a shockwave through the ranks of Voraxa's soldiers, creating a momentary breach in their formation.
Seizing the opportunity, Ren and the others pressed forward. Elena's magic danced through the air, creating bursts of light that illuminated the darkened sky.
As Lorelai's strikes continued to devastate the soldiers, the villagers watched in disbelief. Their faces, once etched with despair, now lit up with hope and disbelief.
Nori couldn't contain her joy. Tears streamed down her face as she realized that the village was saved!
The demon soldiers, now disoriented and on the defensive, struggled to regroup.
Ren's group, however, showed no mercy. They pressed their advantage. Ren and Evie's magic circled the air, finding the gaps in the soldiers' armor with uncanny precision.
While Elena conjured a barrier that shielded the villagers from stray attacks.
The once-desperate cries of the villagers now transformed into cheers of encouragement as they witnessed the tide of battle turning in their favor.
The soldiers, finally grasping the direness of their situation, attempted a hasty retreat.
However, Ren's group moved with a swiftness that left no room for escape. They systematically dealt with every last one of them, ensuring none could slip away to report the unfolding events to Voraxa.
This tactical move bought them valuable time to plan their next move and strategize against what was about to come.
The battlefield, once a scene of chaos and despair, now echoed with the sounds of victory. Voraxa's soldiers, who had seemed invincible moments ago, now faced the relentless onslaught of Ren and his companions.
Within minutes, the battle was over, and all the villagers could do was stare with their mouths hanging wide open, water dropping from their noses.
Who would have known that Ren and the others were this strong?! They collectively thought. Sure, they had defeated a Giant Purple Worm, but still . . .
And to think that they had tied these monsters to stakes?
Rather, Elder, if they were this strong, you should have released them in the first place! The casualties would have been negated!"
As the dust settled, a moment of tense silence enveloped the desert, broken only by the heavy breaths of the villagers and the dissipating echoes of the defeated soldiers.
Nori's heart swelled with gratitude and relief as she joined the fray alongside her fellow villagers. The once-imminent threat of Voraxa's soldiers had been repelled, and the village stood defiant in the face of a stronger force, something they hadn't done in a long time.
The villagers didn't seem to notice their injuries; they cried tears of joy at regaining their pride and confidence by standing against Voraxa, a moment that marked a significant shift in their spirits.
In the aftermath of the battle, the desert that had been a battleground transformed into a scene of jubilation. Villagers embraced, tears of joy streaming down their faces.
Nori, overcome with emotion, approached Ren and the others with gratitude in her eyes.
"Thank you," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion. "You saved us. You saved the village."
Ren, however, wasn't pleased. "This is only temporary. We have to confront a much bigger issue than this."
Nori's smile dropped, and her face turned sour. She knew that these soldiers were nothing compared to Voraxa, but still . . .
Evie was quick to pat her head and said, "Right now, we should heal the injured. How's the village elder?"
