chapter-1111
1111 New Qualifications
Back when Aleos received the mission from Ylvar, he merely thought of their interaction as slightly interesting. After all, it wasn't uncommon for novice mercenaries to pick up missions that were made for 1-star mercenaries if they were in a rush.
With that, it wasn't all that surprising for him to find out that Ylvar went one step further than that. If the man had grabbed a 1-star mercenary mission just like the others, then he was certain he would've just ignored protocol and let the man do as he pleased.
However, he was also certain that he would've regretted the decision if he were to ever do that, especially after witnessing the sight that unfolded before him.
Bang! After activating what looked to be a considerably powerful stat-boosting skill, Valyr showed no hesitation in punching the training dummy in front of him, even though it was adjusted to be at the peak of Rank 5.
To Aleos' surprise, the head of the training dummy immediately flashed green after that, showing both him and the young woman manning the training dummies that they'd underestimated Valyr's strength to a great degree.
Then again, they weren't the only ones at a loss for words.
"What the hell…" Hearing Valyr and the young woman talk about setting the training dummy to the peak of Rank 5 all of a sudden, almost all of the other people in the strength training area stopped what they were doing to see if Valyr indeed had that level of strength.
Not only that, but some of the people who'd been keeping an eye on Valyr ever since the spar with Juba had also come to watch as well, curious as to where the young man's limits lie.
Of course, just like Aleos and the young woman, they were also dumbfounded when the head of the training dummy Valyr punched began to flash green.
To those in the strength training area before his arrival, many of them began to wonder what kind of identity Valyr had, with some of them even thinking of forging a connection with him.As for those that witnessed how he turned Juba's request for a spar into a source of entertainment for them, they had no doubt that the young man's reputation would undergo a massive boost in the upcoming days, especially with them spreading the news.
Then again, even if they didn't, the young man before them would still become renowned for his strength either way.
"You…" Staring at Valyr in shock, it took a while for Aleos to gather his bearings. "Is your true strength at the peak of Rank 5?"
"Well, you could say so." Valyr faintly nodded after a bit of pondering. "With the help of the stat-boosting skill I activated, it's pretty easy for me to unleash that sort of strength with my bare fists."
"Though, I'd probably be able to show a higher level of strength if I wield a weapon," continued the young man, briefly glancing at the crimson spear behind his back.
Hearing those words, Aleos briefly felt his blood chill as he also glanced at the spear behind Valyr's back.
'He could already unleash peak Rank 5 strength with his bare fists with just a single stat-boosting skill,' inwardly muttered Aleos to himself, opening up his chat screen to send a message to the hall's head attendant. 'If he were to use his weapon to attack the dummy…'
'Then doesn't that mean he'd be able to unleash Legend-level strength?'
'Perhaps… even Myth-level strength?'
Oblivious to the thoughts that were going on in Aleos' mind, Valyr left the strength training area after that, which prompted a couple of the passersby who'd witnessed what he'd just done to come up to him.
Striking up a brief conversation with some of them, the young man eventually cut those conversations short as Aleos came up to him, telling him that he'd informed the head attendant of what transpired just now.
"You might have to do the whole thing again once he arrives," the man told him. "Unfortunately, I do not have the authority to inscribe the qualifications you've shown just now on your identification token. If I did, I would've already done so."
"It's fine," said Valyr with a smile, telling Aleos that it was fine for him to do it again.
And thus, while waiting for the head attendant to arrive, Aleos and Valyr talked about the ongoing war once more, discussing the various incidents that transpired just recently.
Unfortunately, their conversation did not last long as the head attendant hurriedly appeared in front of them, mostly due to how Aleos phrased what Valyr had done to him.
Asking Valyr to do the strength training test again, the head attendant watched the young man punch the peak Rank 5 training dummy once more, only to be left at a complete loss for words soon after.
Thankfully, the head attendant's disbelief only lasted for a short while as he began to look at Valyr with immense excitement.
Grabbing the young man's identification token from Aleos' hands, the head attendant immediately inscribed Valyr's new qualifications after having his strength verified, now giving him the ability to take on missions made for 10-star mercenaries if he wanted to.
"Due to rules and protocol, you'd have to reach the 10-Star Mercenary rank first if you'd like to take on missions made for Iron Mercenaries," said the head attendant to Valyr, letting out a slightly melancholic sigh. "If that weren't the case, I would've given you the go-ahead to take on missions made for Gold Mercenaries."
Smiling at the man's words, Valyr thanked the head attendant for his time before watching the man disappear from his vision soon after.
Glancing at Aleos after that, the two then made their way back to the main part of the mission hall, with Aleos returning to the counter he previously occupied.
"So, with your new qualifications, do you still want to take this 2-star mercenary mission… or do you want to grab a mission made for 10-star mercenaries instead?" Aleos asked Valyr, looking at the latter with an amused smile on his face.
Pondering over the question for a bit, it did not take long for Valyr to come to a decision. "Though I do like the fact that I could now take on those kinds of missions… I'll still be choosing this for the meantime."
"Gotta gain a bit of experience at the very least. It'd be stupid if I took a 10-star mercenary mission right now and died for nothing."
"Makes sense." Aleos nodded in agreement, giving the mission Valyr grabbed back to him. "Well, best of luck."
"Thanks." Receiving the mission with both hands, Valyr smiled back at Aleos in response before proceeding to head out of the main mission hall.
His next destination?
Naturally, the frontlines itself.
Well then. That's a satisfying chapter number.
