1122 Ranks and Nicknames
"Well, well, well. If it isn't the Azure Blade finally showing up on my counter." Seeing Valyr appear at his counter, Aleos had a slight grin on his face as he decided to tease the young man once more. "So, what mission are you gonna take on today?"
"Is it gonna be a 10-star mercenary mission? Or is it gonna be—urk…!"
Just as the man planned on talking about the mission the young man took yesterday once more, Aleos' words immediately got stuck in his throat once he noticed the couple standing behind Valyr.
Being incredibly familiar with who the two of them were, the man was briefly left at a loss for words after seeing them look back at the young man in front of him with a curious expression.Unsurprisingly, with how much teasing Valyr had endured from Aleos during the past week, it went without saying that he took the current situation as an opportunity to tease the man in return. "Sorry to disappoint you, but I'll be taking a 10-star mercenary mission this time around."
"Planning on using it to test the new weapon I forged," he continued as he showed Aleos the mission he took, briefly glancing at both Hal and Vera as he wondered what about the two made Aleos react that way.
Fortunately, the two did not escalate the situation any further after that, allowing the two to go through the procedures more or less smoothly.
Though, by the time Aleos was finished verifying that all three of them had the ability to take on the 10-star mercenary mission, he told Valyr to come closer for a bit as he asked him in a whisper, "How the hell do you know those two?"
Understanding that Aleos was purely asking him out of curiosity, Valyr decided to take it as one last opportunity to tease the man a bit more. "Well, let's just say the three of us closely worked together on something back then."
Knowing that there really wasn't much point in discussing the Four Pillars' Inheritance with the man in front of him, Valyr eventually left the main mission hall with both Hal and Vera as they soon made their way to the barracks.
Whoosh!Deploying their movement speed boosting skills as they ran through the plains, the young man took it as an opportunity to ask the two a few more things they hadn't discussed earlier.
"Now that I think about, the two of you haven't mentioned your current ranks to me yet," said Valyr, causing both to look back at him with smiles on their faces.
"Is there really a need to know that?" asked Hal back, only to be left at a slight loss for words after seeing Valyr nod in response to his question.
Letting out a chuckle after seeing how direct Valyr was, Vera decided to answer the young man's question in Hal's stead. "With all of us having gone through that inheritance, I guess it goes without saying that all of us have the strength to clear the hardest missions that are readily available."
"Yeah." Valyr nodded in agreement as he immediately figured out what she was trying to say. "Wait… don't tell me you two are already 10-star mercenaries?"
"We aren't." Vera shook his head, prompting Valyr to inwardly let out a sigh of relief.
However, that sigh of relief was immediately cut short when he heard the next words that came out of her mouth.
"We're already beyond that, actually," continued Vera, beaming an amused smile after seeing Valyr's reaction. "Since the two of us decided to become military officers, our ranks are actually that of Major Generals."
"The equivalent to that would be uh… Gold Mercenaries, if I remember correctly."
"Gold Mercenaries…" Recalling the small explanation Aleos gave him back then on the ranks he'd have to go through, Valyr immediately looked at the two in disbelief after realizing how high their ranks were.
Though, after reminding himself that he was able to become a 6-star mercenary in just a week, the shock he felt eventually died down.
Nevertheless, that did not diminish the awe he felt, imagining the amount of hardships the two had to go through in order to attain their current ranks.
At the same time, it made him think about the pair that wanted to invite him to their War Squad. Recalling how they thought their terms would easily entice him to join their War Squad, the young man inwardly scoffed at them as a few other ideas came to mind.
Knowing that there wasn't really much point in talking about rank after the bombshell Vera dropped, Valyr deftly moved their conversation away from the topic as he recalled the reaction Aleos gave after seeing the two of them.
"What's with that, actually?" Giving them a brief overview of what happened with Aleos back at the main mission hall, Valyr looked at the two with slight curiosity in his eyes.
Thankfully, Hal's response more or less confirmed the thoughts he had in mind when that happened. "Well, just like how you have a nickname in the battlefield, the two of us have a nickname as well."
"If anything, it's just because we've been at the frontlines for far longer than you, which is why more people recognize us," continued the man, to which Valyr nodded in response. "If you came out of the inheritance at the same time as us, perhaps Azure Blade would've been popular as our nicknames."
"Yeah… I'd rather not imagine that." Valyr shuddered at the thought Hal gave him, causing the two to let out a bit of laughter as the three of them finally arrived at the barracks.
Once there, Valyr immediately made his way to where Gerald was, showing him the mission he picked out, as well as the people that would be accompanying him.
Unsurprisingly, just like Aleos, Gerald was left at a loss for words when he noticed both Hal and Vera behind Valyr, looking at them as if they were deities meant to be worshiped.
Because of that, it took a bit longer than usual for their mission to be confirmed by the captain, causing him to directly apologize to the three of them.
Of course, the three of them did not mind it much at all, considering that the mission they took was just so they could see how much each of them had grown since then.
However, just as they were about to head to the battlefield, a pair of individuals Valyr was familiar with appeared in front of them to intentionally block their way.
