chapter-1196
"…Thanks."
Watching both Hal and Vera handle the situation he ultimately caused, Valyr let out a sigh filled with regret as he admonished himself for not thinking even a few steps ahead of his actions.
Filled with rage towards the rebel faction of the Zeihardt clan after finding out what they did to Braum, the young man did not hesitate to show off his might, sending out a series of attacks that would've done great damage to the orcs if it were on the battlefield.
Of course, with Braum giving him a heads-up that the group had arrived at the north defensive line to apprehend him, Valyr knew not to leave even a single one of them alive.
After all, if one of them were to share information on how strong he really was, the chances of him escaping another situation like the one he just went through would reduce drastically. Then again, he knew that such information on his might would eventually make its way to the rebel faction of the Zeihardt clan sooner or later. In fact, that was the reason why he decided to continue attacking the group using his identity as Ylvar.
Although he wasn't sure whether doing so would really deter them from attacking him some other time in the future, he was confident enough that the group would think twice before doing so.
'The situation would probably turn out worse if I had returned to my original appearance amidst the rage.'
As this thought popped up in his mind, Valyr recalled what happened after the situation, with a group of military officials appearing before both him and Jekyll to talk about the consequences of murder within the military base.
With everyone more or less knowing what Valyr was capable of thanks to the tournament, it went without saying that the military officials also knew that he had the might to finish off the entire group that antagonized him if he so wanted to.
However, humanity needed all of the strength they could get in the war against the orcs, which meant that Valyr's actions of killing a sizable group of individuals put a dent on the north defensive line's capabilities.
Thankfully, Hal and Vera were there to smoothen out the situation, as well as the crowd that watched the entire situation around Valyr unfold from start to finish. To no surprise, all of them talked about how the entire group was intent on doing the same thing to the young man if he didn't acquiesce to their request.
After that, the crowd asked the military officials if they would admonish the group the same way they did Valyr, which surprisingly caused the military officials to break out in a cold sweat in response.
While the military officials were thinking about the reply they should give, Hal and Vera decided to land the final nail in the coffin, making use of the reputation they built up to give them a quick reality check.
"Think about what you guys said just now." Hal looked at them before releasing the entirety of his aura.
"Humanity needs all of the strength they could get in the war against the orcs, right?" Wrapping his aura around the military officials, the man looked at them with a cold smile. "Now, answer me. What would be a greater loss for humanity?"
"A group of people that antagonized someone who wasn't even doing anything wrong?"
"Or a person who not only has the strength to fight against Myths, but also helped the frontlines through the equipment he forged, as well as the blueprints he contributed?"
"…Did you not know he's contributed over 2,000 pieces of equipment to the frontlines alone?"
With everyone in great agreement with Hal's words, it did not take long for the military officials to realize that they'd lost their ground, forcing them to step down as they left the premises.
Of course, that was only after they asked Valyr to help defend the north part of the frontlines for the meantime in exchange, which the young man had no qualms with.
"Thank you two. Really." Taking in a deep breath to compose himself, Valyr gave the two looks of gratitude as he knew the situation would've worsened if they hadn't intervened.
"It's the least we could do," replied Hal with a chuckle, with Vera nodding in agreement. "After all, you've given us far more help than we could offer back in the inheritance."
"…Though, I suppose let's talk some other time." Glancing at the man behind Valyr, Hal gave the young man a knowing smile as he decided to excuse themselves on the spot.
In response, Valyr returned a knowing smile of his own, quickly sending a message to the two through chat as he nodded. "I'll have to thank the two of you again, then."
With that, Hal and Vera soon left the premises to do their own things, while the crowd that gathered earlier to see what was going on slowly dispersed as well.
In the end, both Jekyll and Valyr were the only ones left at the center of the military base, prompting the two to look at each other for a bit as both sides seemed to have something to say.
"I…"
"Mind if we head to a more private space first?" Just as Jekyll planned on starting their conversation anew, Valyr spoke up first, causing the latter to briefly fall silent in response.
"…Sure." Fortunately, the man did not seem to mind that much, instead preferring to continue their conversation in private as well.
With that, it did not take long for the two to rent a room in an inn, giving both of them the freedom to finally speak what was on their minds without hesitation.
"Should I go first?" Sitting down on the bed, Jekyll let out a slight sigh of relief as he looked at the young man that accompanied him.
Getting a nod from Valyr in response, the man took in a deep breath as his expression turned serious. "Alright, then."
"I've mentioned it earlier, but I was cut off by what happened just now."
"What… is your relation to Valyr Zeihardt, exactly?"
"You're still asking me that question?" Valyr let out a chuckle, which only caused the man to look at him with a frown.
Though, that frown immediately turned into a look of confusion once he heard the next words that left the young man's mouth.
"Then again, it has been almost a year since you've last seen me this way."
Whoosh!
Without hesitation, Valyr undid [Thousand Polymorph] in its entirety, causing Jekyll's eyes to widen in disbelief as his appearance transformed into someone the man knew very well.
"Wait… it's been you all this time?"
Seeing the man look at him from head to toe multiple times, the young man let out a bit of laughter as he nodded at the question. "Pretty much."
"While I am Valyr, I am also Ylvar," continued Valyr. "Though, I'm pretty sure I might have to adopt another identity soon."
"…" For a while after that, Jekyll went silent as the gears in his mind furiously turned in a bid to wrap his head around the current situation.
"Haah." Thankfully, it only took him a couple more minutes to understand, causing him to let out a sigh as he looked at Valyr with a wry smile. "It really has been a while since I've seen that appearance of yours."
"Anyways, Ylvar… Valyr… has anyone never really connected the two yet?"
"Most of them won't," said Valyr as he bitterly smiled. "Unfortunately, the Zeihardt clan did."
"Time to come up with an entirely different name for your next identity, I suppose," joked Jekyll in response, causing Valyr to let out a slight chuckle.
"In any case, let's not talk about it any further," continued the man with a wave of his hand. "That isn't the reason why you came to see me, after all."
"If anything, it's time for us to continue where we left off."
Valyr began to grin with excitement.
