914 Completing the Quota

Reading through the notification he received, Valyr raised his eyebrow in curiosity as he brought up the description of the quest Julian gave him.

Ding!

'Hmm… the objectives are still the same.' Looking through the quest once more, the young man did not immediately find any glaring differences when it came to its description and objectives.

Though, that all changed when he looked at the remaining portions of the quest.

"30,000 Technology Points and merit points?" blurted Valyr out of disbelief, only to look at Julian after that for more clarification. "And I thought 10,000 of each was already a lot."

"It's definitely a lot." Julian nodded in agreement. "However, I feel like 30,000 of each is more fitting for the amount of effort you put in."

"After all, not all blacksmiths could forge this many weapons in just this many days," he continued with a slight shrug. "Even if they did, the quality of their works would be greatly hampered."

"To me, you're doing the work of multiple blacksmiths at once while just being one person," said the man as he looked at Valyr with a proud smile. "And so, I've adjusted the rewards accordingly to reflect that."

Hearing those words, Valyr could only nod.

Nevertheless, he still felt disbelief towards the amount he'd potentially receive from completing the quest. "But still… 30,000 is too much. Does the Blacksmith Guild normally offer this much?"

"Of course, it doesn't." Julian shook his head. "However, we're currently in a state of war against the orcs."

"That alone is enough for the system to change accordingly, incentivizing people to push themselves to the fullest with the system's aid, whether it be in combat or in production."

"The system did the same thing during the previous wars, actually," the man continued. "It practically footed most of the bill for many of the rewards given out during those times. In short, many people benefited from it, including the guilds themselves."

"In any case, just know that giving out this much isn't a lot to the guild right now." Julian let out a slightly amused chuckle. "Plus, even if it does, that's the guild's problem, not yours."

"If you say so…" said Valyr after a bit of silence, returning his attention to the quest's description.

Aside from the increased rewards, the only other change to the quest was the amount of time he had remaining.

If one were to consider how much time Valyr had already spent with the quest active, the timer on the quest should show that he still had around six days or so remaining.

However, when he looked at the screen, the young man noticed that he only had three days remaining before he failed the quest.

'Well… I guess it makes sense.'

Faintly shrugging his shoulders at the thought, Valyr closed the screen as he and Julian talked a bit more about the situation regarding the weapon quota.

Eventually, the man left Valyr once more to his own devices, prompting the young man to return to his task of completing Julian's quest.

"Now that I think about it… I should send Wells a message." Taking out some of the materials in the furnace, a thought from a couple of days ago popped up in the young man's mind, causing him to bring up the system's chat function.

Finding his friend's name on the list, it did not take long for him to write a brief message of what happened in the past few days after Wells messaged him.

At the end, he told Wells that he'd be busy forging weapons over the next few days, though he'd still appreciate getting updates from him.

After he was done updating Wells on his current whereabouts, Valyr decided to update Noel as well, being reminded that the latter wished for him to come to the Spearman Guild as soon as possible.

'I guess he's curious about Azure Energy since Sellifer was the one who taught him about refining Shadow Energy in the first place,' thought the young man to himself with a hint of laughter, writing up a message in the process.

In the end, the contents of the message were more or less similar to the one he sent to Wells.

Though, unlike the message he sent to Wells, Valyr omitted him having fallen asleep for three days straight, instead talking about how he'd be occupied in the Blacksmith Guild for quite some time.

Having sent both Wells and Noel an update on his current situation, Valyr closed the screen as he inwardly let out a sigh of relief.

However, just as he was about to resume forging, a notification popped up in his mind, informing him that Noel sent back a response to his message.

"So fast?" Bringing up the chat function once more, Valyr's expression swiftly relaxed after Noel said through his message that he's free to take as much time as he needed to complete his other tasks.

"After all, even I'm busy training up new recruits. To think all of them would be sent to the frontlines after this," said Noel in his message, prompting Valyr to imagine the old man letting out a low sigh.

At the end of his message, he reassured Valyr once more that it was fine for him to take his time, though he also told him subtly that he really wanted to meet the young man as soon as possible.

"You won't have to wait long," muttered Valyr to himself as he chuckled, closing the screen for the final time.

After making sure that Wells wasn't planning to send a message any time soon, it was only then did Valyr fully return to forging the remaining weapons for the quota, going through them at blisteringly fast speeds.

Of course, the young man made sure to take breaks every once in a while, timing it so that he could leave the Blacksmith Guild at midday rather than late at night.

Julian also checked up on him every once in a while through messages, asking him if he was getting enough rest.

Though, Valyr unsurprisingly refrained from answering those questions, instead making greater use of his reduced need for sleep to work on the quota.

With that, by the time five days had passed since Valyr woke up from his deep sleep…

He had completed the quota given to him.
