Only I Am A Reader

chapter-433
"...To help people?"
The other newcomer almost shrugged as he answered the question in place of the boy next to him. It looked like they were trying not to show it, but Leo could tell that the two seemed to know each other.
'What are the chances that two Roleplayers have met… Right, it's plausible.'
Considering his personal encounter with Yulia and how that made Leo feel, it wasn't too strange that two other Roleplayers tried befriending each other before revealing what they were capable of.
Compared to simple emotions such as like and dislike, the signals sent between Roleplayers were a complex blend of synergy that included friendliness, trust, and many other deep feelings.Disregarding that wasn't an easy matter…
In addition, both of them looked quite similar. They also had the same brown hair and a fairly handsome face, but more importantly, they both had a few colored fingernails.
'They aren't painted.'
Among many of Leo's observations, he could tell that the fingernail's color was strangely natural. It wasn't something that could be recreated even with the best fingernail paint!
'Eyes, Hair, Hair, Hair, Hair… I don't know about him, and finally Fingernails.'
Passing his eyes through all the meeting's participants, Leo recounted their especially strange features.
Starting from his own differently colored eye, and moving on to Yulia, Illisha, and the pink lady's hair. Whether it was white, purple, or pink, they weren't natural colors, the differently colored locks that Damon had were also natural, which made it equally strange. As for the tanned guy leaning back at the wall, there were many alterations in his body for Leo to pick up his strange factor, but almost everyone here had an abnormal mark!
'Do all Roleplayers have such characteristics?'
"Hmmm… Such a great reply. You aren't necessarily wrong, but it isn't that simple."
Just as Leo was about to go into deep thought, Damon broke his silence only to keep everyone in suspense once more.
"A Roleplayer's ability would naturally be of great help when dealing with natural disasters or everyday troublesome occurrences, but these are all things that normal people could deal with all the same using resources or technology. Our true purpose is…"
The scenery around them changed all of a sudden, but they were used to it at this point.
Although there was sparse fog everywhere, it barely managed to hide the true center of this illusion, large black silhouettes with red eyes!
"The unknown, the supernatural… Once you have obtained your Role, it could be said that you have finally crossed the threshold and opened the veil that separated you from it, and the one who has been keeping that veil in place is none other than our World Reservation Council!"
'So it was really the case?'
Leo looked at the silhouettes with some apprehension. Although most of his guesses had missed, it seemed that the one he worried about the most still hit its marks.
"It doesn't take a certain form or shape, but supernatural events happen all over the Earth. Things that normal people couldn't even begin to fathom."
As Damon proceeded with his speech, the silhouettes continued to change into a multitude of different configurations, helping the viewers to fully imagine the situation.
"The Council believes that we were born as Roleplayers precisely to deal with that. After all, it was one of the main reasons the Council and the Roleplayer Union were formed. This is also why I extended the invitation for you to join us!"
After all of the rosy words about being special from earlier, the real weight was finally dropped. Almost everything made sense, but it still felt like a scam.
'Being the ignorant newcomer sure isn't fun.'
Leo was used to making people believe him using his knowledge. Now that the situation was flipped it didn't feel that great.
"Naturally, I can understand your untold worries. Especially those who haven't yet gotten used to their Roles or those whose abilities haven't proven useful this far. However, once again, there is no need to worry, one of our duties is to protect Roleplayers themselves."
The fearsome illusions that surrounded them vanished, calming down the atmosphere as Damon continued his pitch.
"Depending on how far you want to go, you have two choices. You can either choose to become a part of the World Reservation Council and receive direct consultation from our Senior Members on how to advance your Roles, in addition to having access to part of our extensive archive about the supernatural. However…"
A faint blue light spread in the air as shadowy silhouettes that wore the same uniform as the guiding group appeared around them, boosting their numbers and aura.
'It almost feels like a slideshow at this point.'
"Just as your benefits scale with it, you would have to do a certain number of missions in accordance with your member rank."
'That's understandable.'
Though he wished it was otherwise, Leo understood the principle of give and take. Rather, he would be more suspicious of them if they didn't ask for anything in return.
If all the Council did was shelter all Roleplayers, then they wouldn't have enough Roleplayers to do the actual missions…
"Of course, if you don't have the confidence to deal with the missions or fit in, you can still join the Roleplayers Union. The only missions you take as a part of the Union are ones you personally pick up. Some of the common information and announcements are also relayed within the Union."
'So that's the safety net.'
Since they couldn't force everyone to act as their soldiers, it was only right that they had a reserve organization to manage and keep an eye on the freedom-seeking Roleplayers.
"You are free to choose whatever you want, even if that is to leave now and pretend that you have never met us. You just need to remember one thing. Stay out of our sight, and never use your ability in public or in someone, and most importantly…"
In tandem with his warnings, strong pressure poured down on the four newcomers, literally giving gravity to Damon's words.
"Never join the World Reformation Front. Otherwise, we will mercilessly eliminate you the next time we meet on the battlefield."
