A Fairytale Story (2)

After hearing his words, Ye Mu forgot her desire to escape his arms, and demanded, “You want to tell me a story?”

She had a very strange expression. Because she had started her training at a very young age, she never had the chance to enjoy this type of child-like doting. Was Mo Linyuan trying to raise her as his daughter?

Please don’t say that Mo Linyuan had these intentions!

The carriage continued to sway, making it difficult to read the book. So, Mo Linyuan simply put the book aside and hugged her before he said, “Ok, just behave for a moment. Let me tell you a story.”

He paused for effect, before starting, “A long, long time ago, there lived a crow, a fox, a wolf, and a tiger…

Ye Mu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, “This couldn’t be the exact same fairytale that I told you when I was a kid right?”

Mo Linyuan glanced at her and said sternly, “Behave. Just listen.”

“Oh.” Ye Mu sealed her lips and said nothing.

Mo Linyuan continued, “...The four animals originally all lived harmoniously in the forest together… but one day, each of them received a piece of meat

The fox said to the wolf that he can help the wolf acquire the crow’s wealth. His condition was that the wolf must give the fox the piece of meat in his possession. The wolf thought of all the precious treasures the crow had, and agreed to give the meat to the fox…

The fox then said to the tiger that he possesses the piece of meat that the tiger wants. His condition for the meat was that the tiger must work with the fox to kill the wolf. The tiger agreed to help…

While waiting for the wolf to exterminate the crow, the wolf then became the target. It didn’t take much effort before the two of them killed off the wolf.”

Ye Mu was stunned. Having understood a little bit of the fairytale’s message, and being the straightforward girl that she was, she asked directly, “Then, are you the tiger or the fox?”

Mo Linyuan laughed but didn’t say a word. When Ye Mu turned around to look up at him, in the darkness of the carriage she saw the corner of Mo Linyuan’s mouth held a mysterious smirk. An incomprehensible light shined deep within his eyes.

His beautiful thin lips hooked slightly, before he patted her on the head, “Silly girl. How can I be a beast?”

Although he said it jokingly, Ye Mu felt a chill run down her spine upon hearing this.

They arrived at their destination soon after. The imperial army was well-trained in setting up camp. And soon, things started getting busy for the accompanying officials.

However, due to recent events, the imperial court tranquility was still disturbed. This caused the usual excitement of the hunting event to only give off an air of solitude and silence. No one dared to say a single word for fear of making any mistakes.

During the evening, the camp was finally set up. The wonderful smell of food floated in the air. Once everyone had finished setting up, they changed into new clothes and went outside to attend tonight’s required bonfire dinner.

Seeing how most people had arrived, Mo Linyuan entered leisurely late with Ye Mu in tow. Because the hunting event allowed families to attend, Ye Mu saw many girls sneaking glances at her, their eyes overfilled with envy.

They were incredibly jealous of how, for so many years, with the exception of Ye Mu, there had never been any other woman who had been by Mo Linyuan’s side. Even though the court was restless for him to draft more women, Mo Linyuan still continued to do what he wanted. Who was he doing it for? It goes without saying.

Since ancient times, marriage has been the most efficient way to gain power. Yet for Ye Mu, Mo Linyuan avoided the easy path of marriage. Instead, in order to not make her sad, he refused to marry more women into his harem and chose to deal with the consequences of this choice. All girls wanted this kind of love!

After taking a seat, Mo Linyuan pulled Ye Mu down beside him. Seeing how a senior official seemed to have something to say, he happily stated first, “Today, we’ve all come out to hunt. Let’s all focus on having a good time. Let go of customs for the time being and let’s have fun!”

As he said that, he picked up a glass of wine and happily proposed a toast, “For tonight’s banquet, there is no monarchy! Only friends! Cheers!”
