Chapter 358 - "Mr. Cop, can you please also run a test on the cookies." (2)
Zhang Meixia walked over to Li XinYun and displayed a bright smile. “I baked some more cookies and brought them for you before I left today.”
Seeing how normal she looked, Li XinYun wasn’t sure if she really didn’t know about the drugs or that she was a very good actor. She, too, smiled and said, “That’s awesome. I loved your cookies.”
“Then have more.”Li XinYun said, “Too bad I had a big lunch and then some fruits after that. I can’t right now.”
Having muddled through it, she feigned interest in the songs and started looking for songs that interested her. All in all, she refused to touch any of the food.
When the birthday girl arrived, the place became even more lively.
Everybody fought to sing after the congratulatory words had been exchanged, including those who were tone death.
All sorts of howling could be heard from their room. Li XinYun sat in a corner and she wouldn’t say that she was very happy.
She also had to pay attention to make sure nobody tried to eat Zhang Meixia’s cookies. She needed to stop any unsuspecting people from eating them.
A knock came from the door in the midst of the fun.Li XinYun was the closest to the door so she went over to open it. She was dumbfounded when she saw the three cops standing outside.
The cops frowned, looked around the room and said, “Come with us to the police station. Someone reported your gathering and for using drugs.”
“Oh shoot! Which * accused us of such?” A male student cussed out loud.
The other students too called out that they were innocent. “There must be a mistake. We are all law-abiding citizens. We will never touch such things.” They were no fools!
Li XinYun was certain that the whole thing was a plan targeting her, or perhaps her mother, the entire time when she saw the police.
After all, if words got out that she was using drugs, her mother would be dragged down by it as well.
Whoever was that did this, laced the cookies that were given to her by a good friend as a birthday present.
Knowing her, she would have eaten them for sure.
If she was to run into the cops during this gathering after having the cookies, her test result would definitely come back positive.
The person who did this was ruthless and had no bottom line.
She wasn’t careful enough. Had it not been Kuaikuai, she would have fallen into the trap.
She looked up and said to the others. “We have done nothing wrong. Let’s just make the trip to prove our innocence.”
The others were just griping. It wasn’t like they would really try to get out of being tested.
All the others cursed the person who did this, that it would give birth to children with no buts.
The cops looked around and didn’t find anything that resembled drugs.
When they were about to take off, Li XinYun noticed that Zhang Meixia did not bring the cookies with her. She said to her, “MeiXia, you have forgotten your cookies.”
Zhang MeiXia was startled. She patted herself on her chest, tightened her lips some, and said, “Oh, I almost forgot.” She hesitantly grabbed the box of cookies.
When they arrived at the police station, all of their blood samples were collected for testing purposes. The joyful mood at the karaoke was gone and everybody was talking about who would have done such a thing to them.
They went down the list and talked about each person at length.
Li XinYun noticed that Zhang MeiXia seemed distracted. She asked purposefully, “What’s the matter, Meixia?”
Meixia’s abnormal behavior made Li XinYun’s heart drop.
It’d seem that she had known about it all along. Li XinYun thought the two of them were good friends and had invited her today her birthday party this year and last. She didn’t think this was how their friendship would end.
The result came back negative for everyone. Nobody had touched any drugs recently.
The cop waved their hands and said, “Okay, you can go now.”
One of Li XinYun’s schoolmates asked, “What about the person who filed the complaint? Can we find out who it was?”
Naturally the cops were not going to divulge that information. They merely told them, “We will educate them properly and give them a verbal warning.”
A few of them were not happy with that response. They were singing happily at the karaoke and now this had happened.
Li XinYun gave Zhang Meixia a look and said suddenly, “Mr. Cop, can you please also run a test on the bag of cookies?” She pointed at the bag of cookies that Zhang Meixia had brought with her. The cop had checked them at the KTV as well. They even broke one up.
One could not always be on the defense, nor was Li XinYun the kind who would allow others to wrong her. Most importantly, she wanted to know why Zhang Meixia would do that.
Zhang Meixia turned pale immediately.
Her hand that was clutching the bag of cookies tightened reflexively and her smile was forced, “XinYun, what are you talking about?”
Li XinYun gave her a look and said nonchalantly, “You know exactly what I am saying, am I wrong?”
