He slowly looked up to see Damien's eyes that were as black as the most bottomless abyss, devoid of any emotion. In fact, if he had to compare with the Damien ten years ago, he wouldn't dare to believe that these two were the same person.

"Damien...what happened...I never expected things to end that way...I really didn't. I-If I knew...I would have never done it no matter what. It's just I had no choice but to tell them since I was being monitored. I-I never wanted Sofie—-"

"Don't you dare say her name! You are unworthy even for that...you think what you did can be made up for with excuses? You had no choice? What a joke...whom are you trying to fool?" Damien said in a corrosive tone.

Linda and her son were continuously sobbing as their bodies continued to shiver, unable to even let out a whimper to vent their fear and also had to watch Merlin kneeling before Damien as if trying his best to avoid his death penalty.

"You two...come here and kneel with him," Damien coldly ordered as he gestured with his gun to kneel with Merlin.

"No! Please! They have nothing—Argh!" Merlin panicked and tried to protest, but he was forced to shut his mouth when Damien hit his head with the handle of his gun.

"Shut up. You have no right to plead or beg. Heh, they have nothing to do with this?" Damien's tone became even grimmer as he continued, "Then why did Sofie or my unborn child who couldn't be more innocent to everything were burned to death? They weren't the ones who made the world like this. They never killed innocents. It was all me. So, then why? Why did you give her location away? WHY?!!" Damien's veins were filled with vehement rage as he struck Merlin's face with his gun again, breaking his nose in the process.

"Arghh!" Merlin fell down on the floor as his nose continued to profusely bleed while Linda and her son, Jacob, almost cried out Merlin's name in worry, but Nathasia signaled them not to.

However, at the same time, she could sympathize with the sadness and resentment Damien was feeling, especially when it was not long before she had lost her family.

However, Linda and Jacob now realized why the Crimson Devil came in search of them, and it seemed as if Merlin did something that led to the death of Damien's family, which horrified them to the core.

Because now their hearts were plunged in a pool of despair, knowing that the Crimson Devil would surely take the cruelest of revenge against Merlin, and couldn't help but fear for his life and theirs.

Damien again looked at Linda and Jacob, "You two are deaf? Kneel here in three seconds unless you want to see his brains splattered."

Linda and Jacob gasped as they frantically came down from the bed and kneeled on the floor near Merlin.

Merlin heard them kneeling near him and their stifled sobs, making his heart thud against his chest heavily.

He had no idea how to come out of this predicament, and strangely enough, his calls for help were all in vain. All the phone lines were dead when they were perfectly alright before Damien attacked the mansion.

"Merlin, do you know how it feels to lose your wife and son?" Damien casually asked in a plain tone as if he was asking an ordinary question.

Linda and Jacob felt a chill passing down their backs when they heard his words, making them hug each other tightly.

Merlin swallowed his saliva as he slowly got up with widened eyes, slowly turning his head towards Damien.

Damien continued in the same tone, "I am sure you must have never experienced it...because if you did...then you would have never given away her location."

His tone became dark, "So, how about I give you a taste of how it feels to lose your family before your eyes?"

"No, Damien!" Merlin immediately crawled closer as he grabbed Damien's legs and bitterly begged, "Please, I am sorry! I really didn't know they were going to kill her. I thought at most she would be just detained to make your surrender, that's all. I never wished for their deaths. You have to believe me, Damien! Think about all those good years of friendship we shared in the past. I-I helped you spread your presence as a hero across the world. We worked together, looking out for each other. But what happened recently was not my choice or wish at all!"

Damien shook his head as his gaze became stone cold and said, "You still won't accept responsibility for what you did. It only makes you more guilty about what happened. It only shows that you have no regret for what you did at that time. In fact, you must have felt quite good about it, especially thinking about the rewards and benefits you got. Otherwise, I am sure you wouldn't have been able to hire an Ascended one like Deathclaw to protect you."

"You must have basked in the glory of killing the devil's family. I am sure the whole world must be looking up to you now for burning the devil's family. You must have felt quite proud of yourself, and your wife and son must have admired you as well."

However, Damien had no idea that Merlin had kept his wife and son in the dark about what he did to not make them worry because he knew that what happened to Sofie was more than enough for Damien to hunt him.

"No....I regret everything I did that day. I truly wish that things didn't turn out like this. Please...tell me...what can I do to prove my sincerity? You can tell me anything you want...you can even kill me if you don't want to see me again. But please...my family never knew what I did...in fact, only when you talked about it now they learned about it. You can see from their faces that they knew nothing about this before," Merlin said in a shaky voice as his back drenched with sweat.

Damien sardonically laughed as he said, "Ignorance is not bliss. It is the kiss of death. My family also never hurt an innocent, but they died anyway. So shouldn't I be fair?"

He then looked at Nathasia and ordered, "Nathasia, tie up his wife and son."
