chapter-561
"The four friends?" Damien asked as he tilted his head.
Reva nodded and said as she looked at the horizon, "Yes. The leader and his three best friends. Since they knew and trusted each other, they all had one of the four keys to the gateway."
"Now that's something I didn't expect, especially when the current state of the empires doesn't seem as if they are best friends," Damien was surprised but not that much since he knew best that people change over time and might even forget their roots, just like how the descendants of these four friends must have forgotten about their ancestors' friendship.
Damien then asked, "Anyway, why did they split up if they were friends? Did they have some sort of conflict amongst them or something?"
Reva shook her head, "Nothing like that. In fact, the first they came to this land, the leader felt that the land was too big for them and felt that there was a need to split up and explore the land in a shorter time to see what all resources existed in this land. So one of the friends decided to go in search of fertile land, the 2nd one went in search of a place with an abundance of water, the third one went in search of a place where the environment was pure enough to grow more vegetation and plants while the fourth one went to find a place where they can get more resources to forge weapons. I bet you can guess from this which all friends were the ancestors of the present empires," Reva said as she looked at Damien to see if he could guess them."That's easy. The friend who went to search for fertile land must have their descendants found the Rong Empire since they specialize in the Earth Element. And just like that, the descendants of the one who wanted to forge weapons must have founded the Lancaster Empire, and the descendants of the one who wanted to find a place with fresh and pure air must have founded the Gale Empire. As for the friend who went to find a place with fresh water, he must be the ancestor of the Zirian Emperor, right?"
Reva nodded with a soft smile seeing that he got it right, "Right. Our earliest ancestor was the leader, and he was the one who went in search of more water. If he knew that the descendants of his friends would not share the same relationship as he did with them, I wonder what he would think," Reva said with a sigh.
"I guess that is the cruel side of reality. As generations pass, they forget about their own history or how they came to be. Otherwise, when the Zirian Empire was in trouble because of the Xetonians, the other three empires would have intervened to help them out, and none of the tragedy we see now would have taken place. I guess power and wealth can easily corrupt people."
Reva gently held his hands and asked with slightly pressed lips, "What about you? Will you ever change, Damien? Like…will you forget about me if you reach a higher place?"
Damien chuckled as he flicked her forehead with his finger, "Silly girl. Why do you think I will forget you when I cannot live without you? Didn't I say this before? You already stole a piece of my soul, and nobody else can make me forget you, let alone me. Besides, if I was to get corrupted by power, I wouldn't be standing here."
Damien remembered about his past life where despite having powers, he never strayed off the righteous path, which he still found quite unbelievable. But he was glad that his nature made it hard for him to stray off his ambitions and goals no matter how powerful he got.
"Also, why do you talk as if I am going to leave you? Even if I am going to some other place or getting a higher status, I am obviously taking you with me. Your father can go fuck himself for all I care," Damien said offhandedly, making Reva's lips part before her lips slowly broke into an amused smile. She still felt good and satisfied about the part where Damien declared to Ruthren and before the entire imperial army that he would be taking away his daughter whether he liked it or not.
"Then will you…marry me?" Reva suddenly asked, taking Damien by surprise as he looked at her with a blinking expression, "Did you just propose to me?"
Reva suddenly shook her head in a flustered manner and said nervously, "No…forget I said anything. I wasn't thinking straight."
"Not so fast, girl!" Damien pulled her hand backward as she stumbled back with her back falling on his chest, "Damien!"
"What? You think you can propose to me and just walk away like that?" Damien asked as his hands began to caress her toned abs.
Reva's cheeks began to get hotter as she tried to keep her calm, "I d-didn't propose. I was not thinking straight as I said."
"Usually, it is men who propose first, but I don't mind if my woman does it first," Damien chuckled as he hugged her supple body even tighter, enjoying the feeling of her soft succulent buttocks pressing against his lower half.
"Damien…please…" Reva said in a mosquito-like voice as she couldn't suppress the embarrassment she was feeling right now. She had no idea why she suddenly said something embarrassing like that. She felt as if she wanted to hide herself in the oceans.
And the way he was caressing her bare skin, especially how his nails were stroking her soft under breasts, made it even harder for her to stay still in his embrace.
She then felt Damien's hot breath beside her ear as he whispered, "You don't have to worry.. The first thing I am going to do after taking care of your father is holding a grand ceremony to marry my women before the world, which will obviously include you as well. Are you happy now?"
