Nighttime.

Group 21 quietly approached the herdsmens’ camp. The cows and sheep were sprawled on the ground as they fell asleep, bathing in the moonlight. Some were unable to fall asleep, as they whispered a few times and lazily flicked their tails.

A few hours ago, there were bright lights and occasional loud song sounds in the yurts. This was a regulated group of herdsmen. They had a fixed grazing area. Nomadic herdsmen who wandered with their sheep were rare nowadays. They mostly had specific houses. Yurts were only temporary residences. Every year, when the weather was warmer, some herdsmen would chase the cattle and sheep away to live there.

“There’s no whistle around, no heartbeat/” Wang Xiaoping closed his eyes and concentrated the sounds around hundreds of meters. “The heartbeat of the person on the left in the tent is much louder than that of an ordinary person. There are three people in total. The number of people matches the targeted number. San Wu, you take the frontline. The others, maintain a distance from her.”

“Action!”

As soon as the voice finished speaking, San Wu rushed out like a cheetah. She ran very fast, but her footsteps were light. Holding a lancet in hand, this knife which was half an arm long was best suited for assassination. It was a special weapon that originated from the equipment department of Baoze Group. Its only characteristic was that it was sharp and good at piercing armor.

This lancet was of special significance to San Wu. The team of five had saved up points to buy this weapon for her, in order to aid her in frontline combat.

In addition, her multi-functional belt was fitted with a large-caliber Desert Eagle and two high-explosive grenades.

These heat weapons were not able to pose a threat to demon descendant exponents. Although they were powerful, they often failed to hit targets effectively in actual combat. However, San Wu’s special ability was precision striking. The heat weapons could be harnessed to their greatest potential in her hands.

She edged silently close to the yurt as the lancet delineated a clear light in the night. The entrance of the yurt was sliced apart as San Wu crept in.

There was a smell of sheep in the air and body odour as well. Three people were asleep in the tent as their breathing was rhythmic. San Wu raised her hand and sank the daggers into their hearts.

Then, her empty eyes suddenly shrunk.

The three men had dark skin and strong physique. They resembled the typical Inner Mongolian. It was not consistent with the information in the intel report.

Assassination involved a swift death with one stroke. It was impossible to turn someone over in the dark and see them clearly before killing them. San Wu’s face did not change as a result of killing the wrong person as well. Being experienced in combat, she knew at that moment that she had fallen into a trap.

The Ancient Gods Clan seemed to know that she would come. They had laid this trap ahead of time with crude and simple tactics, but they had the advantage of being a step ahead of her. That was why she had fallen into this trap, defenceless.

A murderous aura started to emanate from behind her.

In that instant, she could not avoid anything. She turned around and crossed her arms in front of her chest. She was knocked out of the yurt by a huge force, rolling on the grass many times and leaving a shallow trail behind.

The tall and burly man came out of the collapsed yurt, his pupils shining bright red. “Number three, your reaction time has slowed down. What made you slack off in your training?”

This man was the God of War. In the battle to exterminate the Ancient Gods Clan, only he survived, and he led a group of cadres out of the encirclement.

The God of War ranked first on the hit list of Baoze Group.

“God of War!”

The three teammates who were running all stopped at once.

As he was at the top of the list, they would naturally be familiar with the God of War. This powerful man once caused Baoze Group to lose its forces. In this pursuit and encirclement campaign, all small teams who encountered him were undoubtedly wiped out.

“Damn it, it’s God of War,” Wang Xiaoping roared on the radio. “Retreat, retreat…”

As she finished her words, the grass suddenly collapsed beneath her. The enemy hiding beneath her came out and easily subdued her.

In the two yurts, a few people from the Ancient Gods Clan rushed out towards the twins and Zheng Kaiyan. One party fled, while the other pursued. The outcome of the battle was determined swiftly.

Wang Xiaoping and her teammates were crippled and thrown together. She saw the line-up of the enemy clearly.

A tall, thin man with a face like a drug addict was the famous Blood Devil. The two men in black and white robes were known as “Top killers of the black and white impermanence.” The person who hid under her and ambushed her was known as Tuxing Sun, a master of stealth.

Every one of these people was on Baoze’s hit list.

The mood of everyone in group 21 sank. They attacked as hunters, but shortly after meeting the enemy, they found that they were the prey instead.

Fortunately, they still had San Wu.

San Wu was a first-class master, the invincible superwoman in the training camp. Other than the head instructor, who was an S-class master, no other instructors were San Wu’s match.

San Wu never let people down. In the months where she was pursued, she dug deep into her resolve as she killed the enemies one by one.

“I understand now.” God of War got the answer through San Wu’s shrunken pupils. “Is it friendship? Number three, have you found what you’ve been longing for?”

“My daughter, you give me such a headache. Dad taught you from an early age that only a ruthless killer can live to the end. However, you were different from the others from an early age. You want warmth more than they do.” God of War scratched his head and continued, “The killer who longs for warmth will be killed by warmth one day.”

“Look at your friends’ expressions. They are not afraid, because they look forward to and believe in your victory.” God of War pointed to her teammates. “My dear daughter, play a game with Dad. If you win, I will let you go. If you lose, well, we will play another game.”

The battle ended in five minutes, and San Wu lost. She lost badly. She had exhausted the high explosive grenades and emptied all the magazine clips. Her weapon, which Group 21 had gifted to her, was broken by God of War’s bare hands.

The God of War grabbed her by her hair and walked towards Group 21 with a big smile. “The next game will be to test your friendship.”

“In order to be a normal person, you betrayed the organization and defected to Baoze Group. I don’t care about these things, but don’t you want friendship?”

He grabbed San Wu’s hair and asked her to look directly at her teammates. “Four people, two groups. Only two of them can survive. You decide for yourself. If you say they can live, they will live. On the contrary, the people you abandon will die here. Number three, whether they live or die depends on you.”

The members of Group 21 swore and cursed. Everyone’s face was full of fear, as they smelt their impending deaths.

The people from the Ancient Gods Clan laughed loudly. In this operation, their only source of entertainment was to torture their captives.

“Let’s talk about the two of them first.” God of War pointed to Zheng Kaiyan and Su Tong. “Between them, who do you regard as a better friend?”

San Wu looked at them blankly.

“If you don’t choose, they will all die,” the God of War said.

Suddenly, the surroundings fell silent. Her teammates looked nervously at San Wu, as the people from the Ancient Gods Clan sneered.

Amidst the silence, Zheng Kaiyan said, “I choose to die.”

The God of War froze and sneered, “For friendship, you sacrifice yourself?”

As he raised his hand, a machete appeared. He used the machete and placed it against Zheng Kaiyan’s neck, as his face turned pale.

“You can say your last words,” God of War said. “You can say anything you want, such as blaming your incompetent friend,” he patted San Wu’s face as he muttered.

Zheng Kaiyan looked at her bloodied, beautiful face. This was the face that he had fallen asleep thinking of, for a long time.

Wang Xiaoping was the first person to make friends with her, but nobody knew that Zheng Kaiyan was the first person to like her. On the first day when she followed Lightning King to the training camp, Zheng Kaiyan had liked her.

She was different from everyone else. She had a pair of empty eyes and simple thoughts, akin to an untainted lotus flower that had sprouted from the mud — it was clear and clean.

She had a sense of purity that street gangsters never had.

One night, he put his arm around his younger brother, Su Tong, and said, “Hey, the new girl is special. She never bathes with everyone. Let’s peek at her.”

In fact, he wanted to say that the girl was innocent and that he loved her very much.

However, he was a little gangster. Before he awakened, he used cooking knives to cut off electric cables. He massacred from West Street to East Street. In front of his new comrade, he could not speak such soft words.

Su Tong was right. Secret love would never come to an end. If you liked someone but did not tell her, how would she know? This was especially true for a girl like San Wu.

“I…” Zheng Kaiyan opened his mouth and spluttered, “You must live on.”

Suddenly, he hated his weakness so much. He was not afraid to die, but he dared not say that he liked her. This was not to mention the gifts that he wasn’t able to give to her the past year.

The machete sliced open his throat and decapitated him.

The girl silently shed tears. That pair of eyes, which had harboured so much hope, finally reverted back to a state of death.
