Chapter 102: Dog
Forest of Death, around midnight
The impact brought by the exploding talisman catapulted Fang Lin and the other two towards the Fourth Stage Area of the Forest of Death. This area was called like that because this was where all of the Fourth Stage Undead were gathered. This was the nearest to the center, only separated from it by the Fifth Stage Area.
Bloodspear and Mina used different methods to cushion their fall. Mina drew out another talisman and stuck it on her skin.
“Woosh.”A gust of air covered Mina that slowed down her fall towards the ground.
As for Bloodspear, he tightened his spear and brought it smashing downwards. Fang Lin felt as if the spear itself got sharper and more durable as it hit the ground.
“Boom!”
Bloodspear’s strike was able to mitigate his downwards acceleration. He still crashed to the ground, but his body was able to withstand the remaining impact.
As for Fang Lin, he had already regained control of his body. He drew a talisman from his robes. It was one of the talisman he hoarded from the spirit ship of the Immortal God Sect. It had a cushioning effect that dampened Fang Lin’s fall.
Once they were all at the ground, Fang Lin turned to look at Mina. Upon seeing Fang Lin’s look, Mina trembled as she curled against herself.
“So, you have those kind of things huh. A talisman that can block an attack from a Fifth Stage Practitioner. That’s really a lifesaver.” Fang Lin smiled as he slowly approached Mina. Mina just scooted back in response.“You must be from a bigshot family to have those resources. Care to tell us where you are from?”
“I cannot...........” Mina muttered to herself. She then braced herself, preparing for more queries from Fang Lin.
But to her surprise, Fang Lin just said,
“If you do not want to, it’s okay with me.”
“You...are not...angry?”
“Angry? You just saved our lives!” Bloodspear nodded in agreement. “I am sure that you have your own secrets, and we do not have the right to be privy on it. So just do your stuff, and we will do our own.”
“Thank you......” Fang Lin could see Mina’s relieved expression as she stood up. She dusted her robes as she looked around their place.
“Hey Fang Lin,” Bloodspear called out behind Fang Lin. Fang Lin faced back, already prepared for Bloodspear’s question.
“Who is that shadow girl earlier, and what did you have her steal from that boy?” Mina’s ears perked up, as she sent curious looks towards Fang Lin.
Before Fang Lin was able to answer, the three of them heard wooshing sounds clearly approaching them. Only Bloodspear and Mina tensed, while Fang Lin smiled in relief.
A few seconds later, and the three of them saw a black streak rushing towards them. It stopped in front of Fang Lin, and the other two saw that it was an adorable girl holding up a stone fragment.
“Master! I got what you wanted from him! Praise me!” Yao’er excitedly raised the stone fragment in front of Fang Lin. Her head swayed side to side, clearly waiting for Fang Lin’s ‘reward’.
“That’s my Yao’er.” Fang Lin grasped the stone fragment with his left hand as he patted Yao’er’s head with his right.
“Unn.....” Yao’er looked happy as her Master continuously petted her. Fang Lin only stopped when he sensed some disapproving looks from Bloodspear and Mina. Fang Lin coughed as he told Yao’er to go back in scouting mode already. Yao’er pouted as she merged back with the darkness.
“Uh that’s Yao’er, my pet.” Fang Lin just said this as a simple explanation for Yao’er. “And no, I am not into little girls!” He had to say this when he saw Mina’s suspicious look. “I swear that! I am into mature and reliable women!”
Mina just huffed and turned her head away from annoyance. As for Bloodspear, he just asked,
“Then what is that stone fragment? Wait, is that a Natural Foundation Establishment Scripture?!” With his higher cultivation base, Bloodspear clearly felt its unique aura.
“You got a jackpot boy! I can sense that you are about to break through to the Second Stage! This tablet will really help you!” Bloodspear excitedly clapped Fang Lin’s shoulders.
Fang Lin observed Bloodspear, and he seemed to be truly genuine with his happiness. As for Mina, even though she was surprised by the mention of the true nature of the stone fragment, she seemed to hold no interest in it.
It was at that moment that they felt numerous auras locking onto them. Their faces paled, as they realized where these auras came from.
“Damn! These Fourth Stage Undead are approaching us!” Fang Lin cursed their bad luck as they were stuck in such a situation. He ran through his mind, trying to find a way to survive, when suddenly he felt a familiar calling inside his body.
This was the third time he felt such calling.
This was the calling of the Twelve Essences Martial Arts!
The first time he felt it was against the Mountain-Bashing Boar. He succeeded on emulating it, and he produced the Mountain-Bashing Boar Essence.
As for the second time, he felt this upon seeing the Multi-Headed Hydra on his bloodline memories. But due to his low cultivation, he can only produce its essence once he was at the Sixth Stage.
As for the third time, it was caused by the Fifth Stage Undead Wolf earlier!
“Guys, I have a plan. But once I execute this, you must take care of me for 2 days.” Fang Lin said solemnly upon Bloodspear and Mina.
Bloodspear panicked, clearly thinking that Fang Lin was going to do something that will damage him greatly.
“Fang Lin, do not try to sacrifice yourself! If such injuries will last that long, I cannot allow you to do your plan!” Bloodspear seemed determined as he tried to stop Fang Lin.
“Actually, it’s not like that...” Fang Lin had an awkward look on his face as he continued. “What I will do will not harm me at all, you just need to be patient with me.”
“Patient?” Before Bloodspear could question Fang Lin more, Fang Lin had his eyes closed already as he attempted to stir the ‘Dog’ aspect of the Twelve Essences Martial Arts.
Before doing this, Fang Lin had decisively cut off his link to Fang Yu. If they were still linked now, Fang Yu will also be affected by the ‘Dog’ aspect. He had to make sure that Fang Yu will be in her normal state throughout the whole sect mission.
Once doing this, Fang Lin tried to remember everything about his encounter with the wolf earlier. He imprinted all those movements and mannerisms on his body, making him a wolf.
It came much faster than what Fang Lin expected. He suddenly went on all fours, with his teeth bared and his muscles tense.
Fang Lin knew that he had taken the form of a wolf. He then took a deep breath as he let out a ferocious wolf howl.
“Yip!”
“Eh?” Fang Lin was confused in his mind as he did not expect such sound to come from him. He desperately tried to howl again, but what came out was all,
“Yip! Yip! Yip!” Fang Lin’s tongue even lolled out as he made some cute barks!
“How did I turn out like this? Where is my ferocious wolf form?” Fang Lin cried inside his mind. It was then that he realized it.
He can only emulate the form of the animal with the same power level as him!
For the Mountain-Bashing Boar, because Fang Lin can still fight with it, their power levels were somewhat similar. This made Fang Lin to be able to fully emulate the Mountain-Bashing Boar in front of him.
As for the Multi-Headed Hydra, its power level was so high that Fang Lin can only hope to emulate its form when he steps at the Sixth Stage.
The Undead Wolf that Fang Lin met earlier was at the Fifth Stage. That means Fang Lin can only successfully emulate that adult wolf once Fang Lin was at the Fifth Stage.
Because Fang Lin emulated the wolf while he was at the First Stage, the form that he got was the form of that wolf while it was at the First Stage.
And that form was of a wolf cub!
“Aww... So cute.....” Mina hurriedly rubbed Fang Lin’s throat affectionately. To Fang Lin’s horror, his body was delighted as he unconsciously let out some sounds of satisfaction.
“No! What are you doing!” Even though Fang Lin fiercely berated his body, it did not listen to him.
Bloodspear facepalmed upon seeing this.
“Is this your plan Fang Lin? If you can’t beat them, join them? You really took that advice literally.”
Fang Lin’s reply was the same old cheerful bark.
“Yip yip!”
“......”
