The City of Terror
chapter-458

 Devour the flesh!

Wei Xiao Bei extended his left hand. A cluster of flesh tendrils instantly shot forward like a fishing net, expanding to a range of dozens of meters. They enveloped all the corpses and stabbed into the flesh like steel needles.

Even the Flame Giant corpses that had withered tremendously from the spear’s power was easily pierced by the flesh threads.

In just thirty seconds, the corpses of the two wolves had been drained dry. Even the bones that should have been left behind were devoured, leaving no trace of the creatures.

One had to admit that the monsters that Wei Xiao Bei exterminated were completely destroyed.

This was indeed using things to their fullest potential.

First, he harvested the parts he needed from the monsters, then, he absorbed their power with his spear, and after he had the Life Altar devour the remains.

However, the energy contained within the corpse of the Flame Giants was significantly higher than the wolves. The Life Altar’s flesh reserve reached ten thousand while there was still a Flame Giant corpse left.

Wei Xiao Bei was not in a hurry to cultivate any new creatures. As such, he placed the Flame Giant corpse in his storage bracelet and moved to a new hiding spot.

A group of over fifty Flame Giants was walking in his direction. The ground made of plank-shaped tree roots were ignited wherever they went.

Fortunately, fires of this level weren’t too ferocious and would die out on their own. This was probably also due to the effect of the World Tree’s defensive system.

Wei Xiao Bei would never want to fight against fifty Flame Giants, regardless of how good he was feeling about himself. He might be able to kill a few more of them, but it was not going to be worth it. It wasn’t hard to imagine the vicious firestorm that would be unleashed from the combined effort of fifty berserk Flame Giants. Wei Xiao Bei would be erased without a trace, even if there were two of him.

The might of fifty Flame Giants in a group was far beyond the might of fifty individual Flame Giants.

Wei Xiao Bei shifted his attention to the attribute panel after entering a forest some distance away from the Flame Giants.

Most of his focus was placed upon the skills.

The [Release Electricity] whose voltage he had increased with the [Electrical Work] ability had created tremendous trouble for the Flame Giants in the battle earlier.

Without the electric currents to delay their actions, Wei Xiao Bei would have suffered even more tremendous losses, even if he would have won.

After all, the flames of the Flame Giants covered far too large of a radius. There was simply nowhere to hide even if you wanted to.

Wei Xiao Bei’s [Electrical Work] was at the Greater Heights level now. It thus branched out into two additional special skills- [Electromagnetic Field] and [Electricity Control].

[Electricity Control] allowed Wei Xiao Bei to weaken and strengthen voltage or currents, with the other as the tradeoff.

Wei Xiao Bei had tested this ability before. It could approximately raise the voltage to 3000 volts and current strength to 1.5 amps.

That is to say, he could increase voltage or current by nearly fifty percent.

This was already a very decent skill.

[Release Electricity] had required 3 evolution points for every 1 point voltage increase in power. It was the same for increasing the current by 1 milliampere.

This meant that [Electricity Control] effectively helped Wei Xiao Bei save a tremendous amount of evolution points. Moreover, if he used this skill frequently enough, it would be able to improve on its own accord as well.

Of course, even if Wei Xiao Bei maintained a state of constant electricity release for the entire day, this rate of increase still wouldn’t be significant.

The best way to improve this special skill was to directly improve [Electrical Work].

At the thought of this, Wei Xiao Bei made up his mind and placed all his attention on [Electrical Work].

As 1500 evolution points faded away, the light blue skill in the panel quickly turned a dark blue. A faint trace of purple then started appearing. The purple quickly started spreading and colored the [Electrical Work] skill a solid shade of light purple.

The description of [Electrical Work] also increased from Greater Heights to Unfathomable.

[Electrical Work] (Unfathomable): Due to the improvement of [Electrical Work], special branch skills [Electricity Control] and [Electromagnetic Field] has improved.

Wei Xiao Bei quickly examined the two improved special skills. The description did not explain any changes, but he was overjoyed when he tested the skills.

Upon improvement, [Electricity Control] could now increase voltage or current by a hundred percent!

That meant that voltage could be increased to 4000 volts, while the current could be increased to 2000 milliamps.

Of course, if he increased voltage, the current would be weakened. Conversely, increase the current and voltage would be decreased.

Meanwhile, [Electromagnetic Field] had its radius increased to fifteen meters, compared to the 6.5 meters that Wei Xiao Bei had managed to achieve through training. This was a proportionally much larger increase compared to [Electricity Control].

Should I improve [Electrical Work] by another level?

Wei Xiao Bei looked at his remaining 8880 evolution points and hesitated.

After all, he still needed to test out the evolved Life Altar. It was very likely that [Enhanced Modulation] would consume quite a lot of evolution points as well.

Still, with his current temperament, such hesitation only lasted for mere seconds.

 Improve it!

Of all of Wei Xiao Bei’s skills, [Electrical Work] and [Bajiquan] had reached the Unfathomable level. However, he truly had no idea what the level above was.

If he did not increase his skill level now, while he had a surplus of evolution points at hand, he didn’t know when he would do it next.

In that instant, a trace of understanding rose in his heart, as if he had grasped something important. Without any hesitation, Wei Xiao Bei focused his attention on [Electrical Work].

The light purple quickly turned a dark purple as the evolution points were consumed.

However, to Wei Xiao Bei’s confusion, the rate at which the evolution points were consumed was gradually slowing down. Though a thousand points drained away quickly, by the time 1999 points had been consumed, the evolution points simply wouldn’t budge, regardless of how hard he was focusing. The now dark purple [Electrical Work] refused to improve any further.

 What was happening?

Wei Xiao Bei confirmed that the skill could no longer be raised any further after multiple tries.

 Could Unfathomable be the peak?

Wei Xiao Bei had a gut instinct that there was a new level beyond Unfathomable.

Still, the skill simply couldn’t be improved any further.

Was it because of a lack of accumulation?

Wei Xiao Bei thought for a moment and then shifted his attention to [Bajiquan].

As his attention was concentrated upon the skill, the evolution points drained away. Much in the same fashion as when he improved [Electrical Work], the rate of improvement gradually slowed down and became impossible when 1999 points had been used.

The same situation had appeared.

Wei Xiao Bei had a feeling that this was perhaps the key to advancing to a 4-Star Creature. As long as any of these two skills reached the next level, his bottleneck at Three-Star Terror would easily be broken through.

Thus, even though he had seemingly wasted 4000 evolution points, Wei Xiao Bei was excited to have found a way to break through the bottleneck of the Three-Star Terror level.

After a moment of excitement, Wei Xiao Bei tossed the matter to the back of his mind. As long as he continued training [Bajiqun] and using [Electrical Work]’s branch skills, the day would come.

He put the matter aside and turned his attention to the Life Altar.

Wei Xiao Bei was currently in a dense forest. He searched his surroundings with [Response Search]. Upon finding no abnormalities, he extended his left hand and the rift on his palm opened. A cluster of flesh threads shot forth and formed a ball of flesh on the ground. That wasn’t the end of it. Yet another cluster of threads shot forth and formed another ball of flesh.

After several instances of doing this, four balls stood before Wei Xiao Bei. Unlike the previous balls of flesh, these four balls radiated a hint of evilness. Even the color was black.

This was the new ability that the Life Altar possessed upon evolving. Perhaps it should be known as a hidden skill.

It allowed the altar to cultivate multiple creatures simultaneously, unlike before.

The four balls weren’t the limit of the Life Altar. The limit of the Altar was ten balls.

However, Wei Xiao Bei was simply attempting to test every one of the foundational creatures.

The speed at which the creatures were cultivated was exceedingly fast.

In just ten seconds, these balls of various sizes split apart. The Weakling Pig, the High-Temperature Bird, the Digging Pig, and the Person appeared, one by one.

It wasn’t until they had devoured their flesh ball shells and grew to their fullest size that Wei Xiao Bei started examining them.

One had to admit that the Life Altar truly felt like a bug in computer software.

The abilities of the four foundational creatures had received improvements of varying degrees after the Altar’s evolution.

The Weakling Pig might have become slightly stronger, but it was its hidden abilities that were greatly improved.

The High-Temperature Birds experienced an expected improvement. Their body temperature went from 90 degrees to 150 degrees. This was a substantial improvement.

Meanwhile, the Digging Pig was now stronger at melee combat. The Person experienced a comprehensive improvement in its abilities. It was now more similar to a person in terms of the way it conducted itself. Of course, it still appeared a little dull and slow in the way it moved and behaved. However, this was already a tremendous improvement. It was extremely difficult to notice the dullness in his behavior if one didn’t pay attention.

Wei Xiao Bei recycled the four foundational creatures after completing his examination. Of course, recycling in this manner would still consume some flesh.

For instance, the High-Temperature Bird that required fifty pieces of flesh to cultivate only returned forty after being recycled. It could even go as low as thirty pieces of flesh.

Still, this was a way to save resources.

Wei Xiao Bei then shut his eyes and focused on the foundational creature templates in his mind.

There were now ten foundational creature templates after the Life Altar’s evolution.
