Chapter 165: Hidden Waves In the Capital

The eventful day thus passed.

Afterwards, Shien’s group weren’t in the mood to keep exploring, so they just went straight back to the Latrard home to rest.

Diere seemed to have came back before them. Shien and the group didn’t see her, but since they learned that she was safe and sound, they all relaxed.

A point worth mentioning though is that on the way back, Shien and the group kept on hearing various people they passed by discussing what had happened before.

Obviously, Shien and Lucy’s unrestrained [Magic Sword] clash did end up affecting the capital at large.

However, the Palace did quickly release a statement that it was due to some magic research. That there was an issue with a new spell under development that ended up causing the phenomenon.

As for the damages, besides the destruction caused to the training ground used as the location of the experiment, there were no serious damages.

After hearing the news, the citizenry were enlightened and relaxed.

However, much like what the King had said, although this kind of fake information might fool the common peasantry no problem, it’s not going to work so easily against the nobles of the capital.

Thus, most of the nobility had already gotten the news and learned just what the real source of the phenomenon today was.

Thus, a piece of information started circulating within the noble circles.

“An adventurer from Lamdrion in the Marquis Murrow territory seemed to be quite strong, and even caught the attention of princess Lucilosti. He ended up dueling the princess, but due to accidentally going overboard, ended up causing the event.”

With that, the nobles instantly got all of Shien’s information.

In other words, just as Ancil had said, Shien had already entered the gaze of those nobility.

Due to the fact that Shien caught the attention of Lucy, a lot of nobles started to pay attention to him.

However, those people didn’t seem to believe that Shien was actually strong enough to match the princess.

From their point of view, Shien might be strong alright, but there’s no way that he could compare to the once in a millennium Hero of the current era that is Lucy.

Thanks to that, they believed that the “accidentally going overboard” bit didn’t refer to Shien, but rather that it’s attributed to Lucy alone.

Thanks to that, rather than focusing on his strength, they placed more importance on the relationship between Shien and Lucy.

“An adventurer that caught the attention of her highness Lucilosti… Is it?”

“Her highness probably wants to recruit him into the royal knights right?”

“Being able to make her highness use that much power, plus the fact that he’s only 20. He is indeed worth recruiting.”

“Only, according to the report, he’s only level 10. Is that for real?”

“There’s no way that he’s only level 10.”

“That’s indeed impossible.”

“Based on the newest report, during the transport of the Old Demon Faction member Jillian, that adventurer crushed the Old Demon Faction’s attackers. He even defeated that damnable Baydr. In that case, his level should be around 80 at least.”

“But, can a 20 years old adventurer really have reached level 80?”

“Impossible, there’s no way.”

“Yeah.”

“It’s already been confirmed with those people from Lamdrion. That adventurer seems to have a unique skill that lets him adjust his own level and skill to a certain extent.”

“So it’s a unique skill huh?”

“And it’s that kind of unique skill at that…”

“No wonder he caught her highness’s attention.”

“Here’s hoping he knows his place. It’s fine to be happy with being rewarded and raised, but he’d better not think that he could use that to get close to her highness.”

“He’s just an adventurer. There’s no way that her highness would consider him worthy of her.”

“True enough.”

Those nobles had that kind of private conversations, having basically dug out pretty much all of Shien’s information.

At the very least, those nobles have gotten all the surface level information.

However, they’ve even gotten certain information not known by others.

For example, there were those who claimed that they got new information from her highness’s personal female knights. Supposedly, those female knights personally saw that Shien and Lucy were quite close with each other and got along well.

Those idle nobles even heard of the matter of Lucy dragging Shien along but got her hand slapped away.

With that, a lot of people started somewhat disliking Shien.

Although a number of them were also calmly analyzing and deducing things through, the fact of the matter is that there’s a lot of nobles in the capital. Of course it wouldn’t be lacking in useless idiots who only know to be upset at the fact that some man is getting close to their idol.

“Let’s find an opportunity to teach him a lesson.”

“Agreed.”

“Make sure he knows that even if he has power, without status, there are some people that he can’t touch.”

“That’s right.”

Private conversations like that also started multiplying.

Shien could never have imagined that in merely half a day of time, so many things had sprout in the dark.

He just accompanied Vivian and group back to the Latrard home, briefly chatted a bit, and then headed back to his own room and relaxed.

Only when it’s time for dinner did everyone finally gather again and started eating with the service of the butlers and maids.

Only at this time did Shien and the rest finally meet the head of the Latrard family.

“I’m Megis Latrard. My daughter seems to have been under your care, thank you very much.”

At the dinner table, Leili’s father, the current head of the Latrard family, showed up and greeted everyone.

The noble called Megis is a 34 year old man. He looked somewhat similar to Leili and acted quite friendly to everyone. He didn’t have any of the arrogance that high nobility tended to.

He was a famed noble with the title of marquis. He had no territory, but he’s the head of the irreplaceable adventurer’s guild. His position ans status was so high that even the royal family would treat him with nothing but the utmost politeness.

Supposedly, Megis had married his politically arranged wife the moment he turned adult at age 15. His wife had Leili when he was 16, and then, his wife died of sickness. After that, he stayed single and raised Leili to adulthood by himself. He was a rare romantic in the world of nobility, who generally tended to have tones of wives and concubines. His heart stayed with his wife to the end, which gained him quite a good reputation with others.

He himself was very capable and friendly, and Leili also respected her father greatly. The relationship between father and daughter was good to the point where they practically exchanged letters daily, so he himself was very well aware of Leili’s current situation.

It’s exactly for that reason that Megis also knew of Shien and, just like Leili, considered him highly.

“If there’s any difficulties at all, you can let me know. If it’s something that I can help with, I’ll definitely do all that I can.”

The warm reception made Shien think quite well of him too.
