The Great Thief
-
chapter-1514
This person was originally trapped and Lu Li didn’t have time to untie him in his moment of haste.
Not to mention, he was about to be turn into an Undead. Who knew if he was friend or foe?
No one thought he could struggle and free himself from the ropes. Once he jumped up, he looked around his surroundings as if he was searching for a weapon, but there wasn’t anything suitable for him to choose.
He could only grab a round wooden stick, about the thickness of a bowl. It didn’t look like it suited him.
“You bastards,” he spat as he hugged the stick and rushed at them. He smashed down directly on the head of a Cursed Disciple, filled with rage and resentment. This attack exhausted all of his remaining strength.Bang!
The Cursed Disciple had its head cracked right open and its brains splattered everywhere in a red and white mess.
Then, the next was…
This sudden development gave everyone a fright. Lu Li and the others had no other choice but to leave the battle and retreat as it wasn’t guaranteed what side this human stood on.
There were three Cursed Disciples smashed to death from his attacks, but he also began to receive some damage. Lu Li didn’t have a choice but to come to his aid.
Fortunately, the man continued to stand at the front, fighting off the monsters. The Thieves only had to focus on damage, so the difficulty of the battle had gone down significantly.
The eight Cursed Disciples were killed very quickly. This pale-faced Mediterranean man with bloodshot eyes was actually a Broken Maniac.
Once the Cursed Disciples were done, it was the Undead’s turn.
The Mediterranean man glared at the slow-moving Undead monsters, then suddenly threw the wooden stick away and began bawling.
Lu Li and the others were at a loss for words; they didn’t know what to do.
Perhaps there was someone that he knew amongst these people, or perhaps they were his family? They must have all been captured together for the experiment.
Now it was just him left.
These were true Undead who had completely morphed. There was no medicine that could save them now, or at least, no medical advancements had been made in this field yet in Azeroth.
“Do you need our help?” Lu Li asked, feeling the need to reach out to this man. He understood how painful it was to kill your loved ones.
“No, let me do it myself.”
The big fellow lifted his head up and grabbed the stick.
What followed was a one-sided massacre. This man was covered in wounds – some were originally there and others were fresh from the Cursed Disciples. However, his fighting strength didn’t weaken at all, or in other words, his willpower allowed him to accomplish this.
He both shouted and cried as he completed the most helpless and tragic battle of this life.
He needed to kill his friends and family, using the most direct method, even if they were already Undead.
Lu Li stood nearby and numbly watched all this.
“This is my daughter Sia. How I hoped she was never born in this world,” the sorrowful father sobbed as he killed the infant while repeating her name.
He recognised every person who had died in his hands, and he would whisper a few sentences in remembrance of them when he passed by.
There was his son, who he had taken fishing on an icy lake. On the trip, a sharp piece of ice had pierced through his new clothes. He cried for so many days, right until he bought him a delicate dagger by selling his fish.
There was a middle-aged Undead man called Sead, who was a childhood friend of his.
When they were young, they worked on the same farm. One night they were so hungry that they went to the kitchen of the farm and stole food.
Every single person had a story, deeply embedded in his memory.
They used to laugh together, work together, and he even watched some of them grow up. Sadly, they were now all a pile of corpses in front of him.
“Who are you? What is this power, to have humans kill their own kind?” he cried out after he killed the last Undead and wiped his face full of tears hurriedly with his sleeve.
“This is the power of evil, sir,” Lu Li replied.
“I killed my own family and friends. I’m evil too,” the man wept.
“They were already dead before you killed them,” Lu Li said, then paused and added, “Do you have any other living relatives sir?”
“No. My loved ones, my everything was here,” he sighed as he shook his head. It was as if he had lost all strength, life and hope in that battle just then.
“Then what are your plans now?”
Lu Li motioned for the others to destroy the big pot, and he decided to leave too. Even though the ones who had died were not his loved ones, he felt the pain too.
“I don’t know, but I don’t want to become one of them,” he replied through gritted teeth. “I want to walk out of here alive. I can’t become a monster that I resent.”
“Okay, we’ll escort you,” Lu Li offered.
The quest scroll appeared with a new quest: Escort Bourne.
“Thank you,” Bourne said as he shakily stood up. He held onto the stick and helped Lu Li and the others smash the large pot into pieces. Lu Li picked up the Cursed Disciple’s notebook and lit the whole church on fire.
Up to this point, they had completed the mission of destroying the Cursed Disciples’ rituals.
The delivery target for the quest was the quartermaster of Stormwind City.
Unfortunately, a large portion of monsters here were killed by Bourne, so there wasn’t anything dropped. Lu Li and the others did manage to find some materials and equipment.
There wasn’t much value in equipment, but the materials, especially the two rare ones, were good rewards.
Next, they were to escort Bourne on his way. If Bourne was an ordinary person, then this quest would be quite difficult.
However, Bourne held a thick wooden stick and fought like a lunatic. His body was covered in wounds but there was no sign of him falling down. Lu Li was in front exploring the way in case of encountering any invincible existences.
In about an hour or so, they appeared on the outskirts of the Plaguelands.
“The Seventh Regiment and I have some good ties,” Lu Li said. He really admired this farmer’s fighting power and decided to help him. Military personnel should be able to accept Bourne based on his friendship with Bolvar Fordragon.
“Thank you, but I think I already have a place I can go,” Bourne responded as he stood up on a rotten pile of timber and looked off afar.
There was a blood-red coloured flag floating in the distance.
A group of scarlet armored soldiers were vigorously massacring the Undead.
It was the Scarlet Crusade!
