The Great Thief
chapter-1521

In Elvish, a Half Lich meant ‘Half cultivated and not to completion’. Basically, Anglish hadn’t truly transformed into the Lich yet. Despite the fact that he didn’t have the full power of the Lich, Anglish also didn’t have any defects.

The Half Lich were similar to the Lich; the abilities of their past life remained, and they also had limitless time to delve into studying magic. So, achieving great magic power even as a Half Lich was inevitable.

The key difference was that they couldn’t place their soul into a phylactery like the Lich could. The Lich only needed a phylactery to resurrect with a new physical body. It was precisely because of this reason that the Half Lich Anglish cared about his life even more. Whenever he encountered a dangerous situation, he would more likely utilise his full power.

“Engage the Half Lich! Treat it like a wild boss! There’s a chance it could be even smarter than one. So, be careful of unexpected changes in Aggro,” Lu Li warned based on what he knew about the Lich from previous encounters. However, his previous encounters with the Lich were in Instance Dungeons, so there may be some differences in this battle.

“I admire your courage,” Anglish announced, still remaining in his seat. He raised his magic staff towards the few people in front of him and growled, “But I despise your souls.”

Suddenly, he was alarmed at the large number of opponents swarming around him— he’d been surrounded!

When a huge group of people came out on both sides of the bridge and the surrounding hills, Anglish knew that he’d underestimated the enemy.

Anglish was already familiar with his new power, and the cowardly, weak, overcautious teacher in him was already dead. When an arrow from a crossbow stabbed into his eye, he immediately let out an angry scream. However, the scream didn’t pierce the ears but the souls of the victims, and it spread far away like a wave.

Lu LI felt uneasy after the scream. He immediately took measures for a backup plan for any surprises during the battle. The other players saw that the Main Tank had stabilised the Half Lich’s aggro, and so they kept up their damage output.

Like many other standard bosses, the Half Lich had over four million HP. Solomon was itching for a fight and didn’t wait for Lu Li’s signal and directly engaged in battle with Anglish.

Solomon bore the responsibility of commanding the army in this quest and was personally responsible for its success. It was closely tied to his future prospects; it would be a huge achievement if he could get this batch of potions to the allies’ apothecarist to research an antidote. If he failed, he could put the blame on Lu Li and these adventurers, but he would still just be a scout leader.

Solomon’s damage was very high and instantly took aggro. Anglish waved his magic staff and a string of Frostbolts smashed into Solomon’s face, forcing him to retreat. A thick layer of Chillplate formed on his body which slowed his movement and attack speed.

Lu Li originally wanted to let Solomon stay back but when he saw Solomon’s HP, this thought immediately disappeared from his head. This Alliance commander turned out to have two million HP; this level of HP was so high it felt like a waste.

As soon as NPC commanders like Solomon stepped into the Plaguelands, their attributes and HP were largely improved; Marshal Windsor probably didn’t have this much HP.

With Solomon also attacking the boss, everyone else was much more relaxed. Solomon inflicted the highest damage and was the greatest threat to Anglish, so Aggro was also quite stable. Apart from a few AoE skills, Anglish wasn’t even bothered to pay attention to the other ant-like players.

Anglish’s pride blinded his judgement. If he was still the overcautious magic teacher he once was, a little analysis would allow him to realise that the damage inflicted by those ants together, was much higher than the damage inflicted by Solomon, a single opponent of his level.

Anglish had a dozen or so henchmen with him. Of those, there were four Stiches with comparable power levels. However, these monsters weren’t strong enough in the face of a 500-man army. There were a dozen or so magic AoE spells blasting them back and forth. Before these monsters could even reach the players, they had all been killed. When all the side monsters had been dealt with, they all turned their attention to the Boss.

Anglish’s HP fell like water down a drain!

Anglish couldn’t stay seated any longer; He jumped down from the vehicle, waved his magic staff and casted a flurry of spells at his enemies.

Shields of Bones materialised around himself, making a complete defence system that could block most of the damage received.

The damage was now greatly reduced and the speed at which Anglish’s HP dropped slowed down. What stunned the players was the fact that the Shields of Bones absorbed part of the magic damage received and transformed it into health for the Half Lich. A Half Lich should not be underestimated, especially not during the seasonal event in the Plaguelands.

“Magic damage dealers, try your best not to hit the shields. Physical damage dealers, focus your attacks on the Shields of Bones. Commander Solomon, attack those shields too!” Lu Li commanded.

The physical damage dealers attacking the shields would be more effective than magic damage, since magic would increase his HP. They soon destroyed Anglish’s Shields of Bones. However, he then set up an ice shield immediately.

They absolutely hated magic bosses the most.

At least this time the ice shield only blocked damage and didn’t regenerate his HP. Otherwise, that would have frustrated Lu Li and his army. Whoever said that undead bosses were really easy to fight because they rarely replenished HP was definitely lying.

What Lu Li hated the most was the different types of skills being casted continuously from these magic wild bosses.

Why couldn’t they have fought this guy in an Instance Dungeon?

In an instance dungeon, the monsters’ abilities all had limits; they would all be capped at 10 available skills. However, a Half Lich who spent their whole life researching magic found outside an Instance Dungeon would have an arsenal of spells to use.

The undying Half Lich might even have the Charm spell.

If he had the bone shields on top of the ability to charm them, then they’d be screwed.

At least we had 500 players, so even if you got hit you’d still be able to survive for a few seconds. Lu Li had brought quite a few healers, so the players who had been hit by AoE could be restored to full HP very quickly. Even if someone was instantly killed, another player could still revive them, and they could keep fighting.

They soon halved Anglish’s HP. If nothing unexpected happened, then the battle would be over in a few minutes.

“Boss, it’s not good! A lot of Undead are coming this way,” someone informed Lu LI.

As expected, the bad feeling after the Lich made that soul-piercing scream was actually a big summoning call. Good thing they had a few thieves around the perimeter on lookout. If they had been ambushed, it would’ve spelt doom for his team.
