Zuo Qiu did not dare to object and immediately gave the secretary there a call.

The person on the other line agreed politely but had also expressed some dissatisfaction during the conversation.

The appointment had already been confirmed. Were you having fun canceling it now instead of earlier? Their CEO was already on the way to the meeting.

Zuo Qiu could feel his stomach tied in knots. This client was different from others. The company had placed extreme importance on him, even Yan Beicheng took it very seriously and did not allow room for mistakes.

If the client was unhappy, Yan Hui would suffer when they next met.

Zuo Qiu gave it a thought and said, “I’m so sorry. President Yan is actually on the way. But he had just received a call saying President Yan’s fiancé had been in an accident. We’re still not sure what the situation is. I’m afraid President Yan would not be able to concentrate even if he had met with President Xu, he’ll be worried about his fiancé’s condition.”

The secretary on the other side made him wait while reporting the matter to President Xu. They did not expect President Xu to personally pick up the phone. Zuo Qiu did not dare to speak on behalf of Yan Beicheng and passed the phone to him instead.

Yan Beicheng forced himself to keep calm, but he could not control trembling in his voice. It was a light tremble that was not very obvious, “President Xu, I’m terribly sorry. I was really looking forward to this meeting but I’ve just received a call telling me my fiancé’s…”

“I understand,” the tremble in Yan Beicheng’s voice did not escape President Xu ears.

Someone who was highly regarded by Yan Beicheng was definitely no ordinary man. Much like Yan Beicheng, he was detail-oriented and did not miss the slight tremor in Yan Beicheng’s voice. He was understanding of the situation and did not feel slighted at all. This had, after all, involved someone he loved.

“President Yan, do go look after your fiancé. You don’t need to worry about what happened today. We can meet at another time. You have nothing to apologize for. An emergency situation could happen to anyone,” President Xu said seriously.

“Thank you,” Yan Beicheng thanked him and hung up.

Zuo Qiu stopped the car in front of the hospital. Yan Beicheng opened the door before the car had even parked properly. As his feet struck the ground, he realized he felt weak in the knees.

“Master Yan?” Zuo Qiu called out worriedly. He turned back to look at him. There did not seem to be any strange signs on Yan Beicheng’s grim face.

“I’m okay,” Yan Beicheng replied casually and did not say another word. If he did, he could betray his agitated emotions.

He took a deep breath and steadied himself. He got off the car and gave Lin Chu a call.

When Lin Chu picked up, Yan Beicheng nervously asked before she even spoke, “Where are you?”

Lin Chu told him. She could tell that he was nervous and was worried that he had misunderstood the situation and get even more worried. So, she quickly comforted him. “I’m okay, don’t worry about it. I’ve only just hit my wrist…”

“Let’s talk when I see you,” he could not relax until he saw her.

When Shao Huai called him, he did not sound like he was in a panic. He knew that nothing bad happened to Lin Chu. But he was worried. His hands felt cold and they were trembling. He was sweating cold sweat all along the way.

Lin Chu was brought to a general hospital. There were a lot of people. Many of them were waiting in front of the elevator. The elevator was really slow as it stopped for a long time at every level.

Yan Beicheng did not have the patience to wait and headed straight for the stairs. His long legs strode two to three steps at a time on the way up. It was lucky that he had paid attention to training himself. He climbed up three levels while maintaining his speed and had to run through the crowd to try and reach her. He was already sweating and a little breathless.

Finally, he found the Orthopedics Department and rushed to where Lin Chu was sitting. She was on a narrow bed and was prepared to stand up and leave.

Yan Beicheng immediately rushed over and grabbed her arms. “Where did you hurt yourself?”

He did not know if it was because he had run too fast and was breathless, or was it because he was sick with worry, but Yan Beicheng’s voice was trembling terribly.

He held on to her shoulders and looked her up and down carefully. All he saw was her wrist bandaged up and her face looking pale.

“I’ve only got hit on my wrist. The doctor said that there’s not much of a problem. I didn’t hurt myself anywhere else, don’t worry,” Lin Chu answered.

Yan Beicheng suddenly held Lin Chu in his arms and hugged her tightly. “It’s good that you’re okay, it’s good that you’re okay.”

Lin Chu buried her face into his chest. It’s the first time she could smell sweat in his arms while he was wearing his suit. It was like she could smell his worry and unease.

“Did I scare you?” Lin Chu asked quietly and lifted her head slightly. All she could see was his chin.

She saw his chin still trembling and felt his quavering breath on her forehead and ears. It was hot and she ached for him.

He was breathless as he murmured, “You scared me, you really scared me.”

Yan Beicheng lowered his head and buried it in her long hair. “Next time… next time you’re not allowed to do this. You’re not allowed to scare me this way. I couldn’t reach you on the way here, I didn’t know how badly hurt you were. I was so scared. My heart just went empty, I couldn’t think of anything else.”

He hugged her even tighter, taking care not to touch her hurt wrist. His arms were around her shoulders and he held her tightly into his arms. He wanted to just let her stay there and bring her home this way.

Lin Chu could only hug him around the waist, she did not dare to move her wounded left hand.

She breathed him in deeply. “I’ll be very careful in the future and not let you worry about me this way anymore.”

Yan Beicheng lowered his head and gave her a light, gentle kiss on the head.

She did not know that he had let his imagination run wild on the way here. He had imagined all sorts of ways that she could get hurt.

He thought about her lying on the hospital bed, wounded all over. Or that she was unconscious with blood all over her. There was also the image of her in a car accident. He did not know how she could have gotten into an accident; he could only imagine that a car had hit her and she flew out of the picture in his head. The thought all these made him break out in cold sweat, he hated those images.

When he rushed in and saw Lin Chu sitting unhurt on the hospital bed with only a bandage over her wrist, he finally relaxed and gave a sigh of relief. However, his eyes were slightly wet and red.

He was afraid she would notice it and tried his best to hold back his tears.

Now that he had her in his arms, he finally felt safe and calmed down.

The moment he heard the news, his heart went into a frenzy. All he wanted to do right now was to hold on to her and never let go. He wanted to always keep her within sight, or he would never be able to stop worrying.

He lowered his head and could not stop breathing in the fragrance of her hair and kissed her on the forehead.

“Didn’t you go to meet a client? What are you doing here?” Lin Chu asked. She was starting to get embarrassed by his kissing and her face went red, but it looked better than her pale face.

“I received a call from Shao Huai on the way, telling me you were in an accident. So, I canceled the meeting,” Yan Beicheng said casually, as if the meeting was something unimportant.

But Lin Chu was aware that any matter that required the presence of Yan Beicheng was no small matter.

“I’ve told Shao Huai that it was nothing serious, didn’t he tell you?” Lin Chu said. She was feeling warm and guilty at the same time that Yan Beicheng had abandoned his work just to see her.

“I didn’t finish listening to him. I can’t concentrate on anything after hearing the news of your accident, so I came over immediately,” Yan Beicheng said quietly but adamantly. He did not regret his decision.

“Won’t the client get mad at you? Will it affect your business?” Lin Chu frowned slightly as she blamed herself.

“Nope. I’ve explained it properly. The business is not as important as you are,” Yan Beicheng kissed her between her eyes and smoothened the frown there.

Lin Chu’s lips could not help but curve upwards, even though it felt a little like taking advantage of the situation, but she still felt really happy at his words. She lifted her head to give his jaw a kiss. “You’re the best.”

Yan Beicheng could not resist her slight teasing. In addition, he had been so worried about her but now that he found her okay, he could not help but give her a passionate kiss.

They heard an embarrassed cough from the side.

Lin Chu stiffened and separated herself from Yan Beicheng.

Yan Beicheng had been so worried about her just now. When she saw how concerned he was, Lin Chu’s eyes could see only him. She had totally forgotten where they were and only wanted to comfort Yan Beicheng’s worrisome heart.

As she heard the cough, she turned around to see the nurse who had helped with the bandages looking embarrassed.

“Miss Lin, you’re done. We need to tend to the next patient,” the nurse announced.

“I’m so sorry. We’ll be leaving now,” Lin Chu said quickly as her face burned in embarrassment.

Outside the clinic, Yan Beicheng asked again, “How exactly did the accident happen?”

Lin Chu told him about what happened with Lin Yuwen. “Luckily my mentor and Yuntong pulled me back in time, otherwise, I’d be in big trouble. Lin Yuwen, on the other hand, I guess she got her retribution. It’s just sad that her baby was the one that had to shoulder that sin.”

The two of them chatted as they headed toward the elevator. Now that Lin Chu was okay, there was no need to rush.

As they walked past the stairs, they saw Cheng Ziming running up anxiously. His suit was unbuttoned and opened at the front. His tie was loose as his shirt collar was also unbuttoned. His well-groomed hair was tousled and there his forehead was sweaty. He looked breathless.

When he saw Yan Beicheng and Lin Chu, he immediately stopped and was momentarily stunned. He pressed his lips and continued up the stairs without saying a word.

Not long after, Cheng Jindong arrived while supporting Wang Jinglin. Both of them were walking slowly. Wang Jinglin looked weak and dispirited. She was crying and mumbling at the same time, she did not seem to have much energy left in her. Cheng Jindong had her in his arms, almost carrying her up all the way.

Wang Jinglin suddenly stopped and forgot her crying when she saw Lin Chu and Yan Beicheng. Wang Jinglin’s eyes darted around, there were mixed emotions in her eyes. She did not know whether to hate them, be jealous of them or be embarrassed. She tugged Cheng Jindong and hurriedly left.

“Do you want to go check on them?” Yan Beicheng turned to ask. He wanted to see what Lin Yuwen had turned herself into and see how she had ended up.

Lin Chu shook her head. “It’s fine. What’s the point of seeing how terrible her situation is right now? The Lin family will not let me off and just think that I’m here to gloat.”

Lin Yuwen had woken up from her anesthesia. All she felt was extreme pain, like there was an emptiness in her.

She lowered her head and found that there was still a slight bump on her tummy, but not as big as before. She touched it with her hands. It was much flatter.

Images of the accident flashed in her head. She remembered the bloody puddle under her body. She raised her eyes to see Lin Zhenghe, Su Changxin, Cheng Jindong, Wang Jinglin and Cheng Ziming standing at her bedside.

Su Changxin was wiping the tears away from her eyes, crying silently. Her eyes were terribly red. Lin Zhenghe looked extremely grim. There was gloom around him.

Wang Jinglin was crying non-stop, as if afraid no one could hear her cries. She kept repeating in Cheng Jindong’s arms, “My grandchild, my poor grandchild! The Cheng family finally had an offspring but, it’s gone… it’s gone just like this. What a tragedy! His father, I’m in pain, I’m really in pain! This child is only four months old and had already taken shape, just like that, it’s taken out, and a life is lost…”

Lin Yuwen’s face was as white as a sheet. The thought of that bloody scene made her feel worse.

That was her child, the child she had been waiting for!

She may have looked down on Cheng Ziming subconsciously and thought that Cheng Ziming had to rely on her. But, this was the man she had chosen, there was love between them. Even if she did look down on him, she did love him.

This was the child of the man she loved and her, and it was gone, just like that!

The child had already formed and removed from her tummy while she was anesthetized. The thought of that scene was terrifying.

“Mum!” Cheng Ziming suddenly called out to stop Wang Jinglin from lamenting further.

She looked over at Lin Yuwen, whose face was ghostly pale, she was crying badly. She turned and looked at Lin Zhenghe and Su Changxin, who was glaring at her furiously, clenching their teeth hatefully. This was especially so with Lin Zhenghe, whose face was frightfully dark. It scared Wang Jinglin into looking away and turned her gaze elsewhere. She hid into the arms of Cheng Jindong and continued to sob.

Su Changxin could not take it anymore. She had always thought that Wang Jinglin was someone that did not know how to act in front of people. She had a low-class personality. On the surface, she had a gentle personality but in fact, she was a coward. She was always acting timid and was never magnanimous in her ways.

Her daughter had now ended up like this. The loss of the child was a big loss to everybody and Wang Jinglin. It was especially so for Lin Yuwen.

Yet, in the end, it was Wang Jinglin was crying profusely, every word said was like a knife to Lin Yuwen’s heart. She was beginning to suspect that Wang Jinglin was doing this on purpose.

Su Changxin’s face was pale and her eyes were red, she said angrily, “Enough!” You’re not the only sad person here! Yuwen is still lying sick in bed. That was a piece of her that was lost, she’s feeling worse than you are, stop annoying everyone here with your cries! The baby may be gone, but it’s not like she can’t get pregnant again. Who are you performing for with your crying? Are you trying to make Yuwen feel bad on purpose? She’s not feeling happy at all right now and the worst thing to happen to her is not enough rest and thinking too much. Are you trying to make her even sicker?”

Wang Jinglin choked and tried to stop herself from crying. She thought that Su Changxin was being very unreasonable and she looked even more unhappy.

“What’s going on?!” Lin Yuwen screamed.

Su Changin stopped bothering herself with Wang Jinglin and quickly went to comfort Lin Yuwen. “Don’t get agitated, I know you are sad right now. The baby… Is gone.”

Su Changxin tried to hold back her tears and said chokingly, “This baby has no fate with us. When we go home, we’ll… We’ll give it a good burial. Both of you are still young, there would still be a chance. Take the time to care for your body and we’ll have another baby. It’s lucky… It’s lucky that you’re fine, right?”

Lin Yuwen hugged her tummy and felt it hurt badly. “This is all because of Lin Chu, it’s all because of her! She was the one who set us up, she made me so filled with hate, which was why…”

“Why wasn’t it her that got into an accident?! Why couldn’t I kill her with my car?!” Lin Yuwen shouted agitatedly; her hands were in a fist as she hit the wall furiously.

“Yuwen, calm down, calm down. Don’t hurt yourself and pull at the wound,” Su Changxin tried to calm her down.

“Are you Miss Lin Yuwen?” Two uniformed policemen walked into the room.

Everyone looked over in surprise. The two policemen walked over and showed their identification. “We’ve seen the security footage from the car park and have a few questions for you.”

Lin Yuwen looked at Lin Zhenghe nervously. Her mind was in a mess and she did not know what to answer.

Lin Zhenghe said in a grim voice, “My daughter had just finished surgery and is not in a good condition. Can we let her rest first before questioning? Meanwhile, I’d like to contact our lawyer.”

Crashing into someone on purpose, was a crime. If it was serious, she could be charged with intent to kill. Lin Zhenghe had to wait for the lawyer to arrive and discuss how best to answer the questions with Lin Yuwen and salvage the situation.

At that moment, an elegant looking middle-aged man in a suit walked into the room.

“Sorry to interrupt but I’m Lin Chu’s acting attorney, this is my name card,” Lawyer Zhou passed a name card to Lin Zhenghe.

Lin Zhenghe had a bad feeling about this.

Lin Yuwen had hurt Lin Chu. Judging by the looks of it, Lin Chu was not badly hurt but there was a minor injury on her wrist. No matter what it was, Lin Yuwen’s intentions were frightening.

Yan Beicheng had demonstrated how much he cared about Lin Chu during the wedding. He would not let this go so easily.

As expected, Lawyer Zhou took out a lawyer’s letter and passed it to Lin Zhenghe. “I’m representing Miss Li to officially sue Miss Lin Yuwen.”

With that, he gave a nod and left.

Lin Zhenghe lowered his head to read the name card. It was just as he thought, this was Yan Beicheng’s man.

His expression changed upon reading the lawyer’s letter.

What he feared had happened.

Lin Yuwen asked nervously upon noticing the change in Lin Zhenghe’s expression, “Dad, what does it say?”

Lin Zhenghe did not say anything. Su Changxin went to him and snatched the letter over. She read the words on it and her eyes widened with rage. “That bitch!”

“Mum, what does it say?” Lin Yuwen wanted to take the letter from her hands but had no energy.

Lin Zhenghe clenched his teeth and said, “Lin Chu wants to sue you, for the intent to murder.”

Lin Yuwen was shocked and trembled all over nervously. “Dad, Dad, what should I do?”

“Calm down first!” Lin Zhenghe ordered. He looked at the two policemen, hinting their presence to her and to stop her from saying too much. “I’m getting Lawyer Liu here. We’ll talk when he arrives. Before he does, don’t you dare say a word.”

Wang Jinglin whimpered as she told Cheng Jindong that she was going to the restroom and left the room, but she went to the doctor instead.

“Supervisor Zheng, how is Lin Yuwen doing? I understand that getting a miscarriage when the baby is so big will affect one’s body. It has already been more than four months for her tummy, the child has even formed its shape. She had such an unnatural miscarriage. Could she… get pregnant again?” Wang Jinglin asked hesitantly.

“With Lin Yuwen’s condition, her body is slightly damaged but it’s not that she can’t have children anymore. Her body is now very weak and needs to be taken proper care of. She needs to be taken care of better than a woman in confinement. Once she is better, she would need to repair where she is damaged with proper nutrition. She will have to keep it up for one or two years and come back for another body check-up. As long as she takes care of herself very carefully, she will be able to get pregnant. Be sure to look after her properly. She should not be exhausted, even a small drop of cold water is discouraged. I will list out what needs to be paid attention to and you can take her home for better care.”

Wang Jinglin was relieved upon hearing that Lin Yuwen will be able to get pregnant again.

Her son’s future may be important, but blood is also important. The Cheng family line must be continued.

To be honest, she could not bear to part with an in-law like the Lin family. When she found out that Lin Yuwen needed to rest for one or two years, then let it be so. One or two years was not considered too long. Both of them were still young. Everything was good as long as they could get pregnant again.
