In the end, Wei Zilin quickly intercepted and grabbed ahold of her hand.

“My hand’s covered in filth. It’s dirty,” Xu Moyan said. However, he was already holding on to it, so it would not make sense if she were to shove it away. Thus, she decided to let it be.

“I don’t mind.” Wei Zilin held on tighter, interlocking his fingers with hers.

Her hands that were somewhat cold from the morning chill gradually warmed up after being held by his for a short while.

Looking at his unbothered expression, Xu Moyan blinked slyly and covered the back of his hand with her other hand. She deliberately rubbed it a couple of few times, smearing the majority of the dirt on her hand onto the back of Wei Zilin’s hand.

Wei Zilin had quite a high tolerance for Xu Moyan’s antics, so he simply continued to smile as he watched her becoming increasingly boisterous. It was as if she had suddenly turned into a three-year-old child.

Wei Zilin lifted her hand up and wanted to give it a kiss. However, once he got close to it, he asked curiously, “What’s that smell?”

Xu Moyan heard him and lowered her head to smell it. Then, she blushed and became a little embarrassed. “Why… does it smell?”

Old Master Wei, who was opening the door and was about to enter the house, paused and turned around after chuckling twice. Then, he replied, “That’s because I’d normally pour natural fertilizer over the ground.”

After he said, he entered the house with his hands behind his back.

Xu Moyan and Wei Zilin both froze with a confused expression on their faces.

Natural fertilizer… Did he mean manure?

Almost immediately, Xu Moyan became apologetic and said, “I’m so sorry, I didn’t know.”

When she tried to loosen up her grip, she found that Wei Zilin was still holding onto it tightly. “It’s fine. It’s already smeared all over anyway.”

He paused for a while before asking, “Weren’t you wearing gloves?”

“When I was pulling out the vegetables, I didn’t feel comfortable wearing the gloves. I’m afraid that I couldn’t correctly estimate the force I was using and might damage the vegetables, so I took the gloves off.” Xu Moyan explained as she tried to weep, but failed to shed a tear. “Grandpa is really something. He didn’t even try to warn me.”

“Now that you know who’s the nicest to you. Think about it the next time you help that old man bully me.” Wei Zilin said complacently.

Xu Moyan, “…”

The two then went to the washroom and repeatedly tried to wash the dirt off. Fortunately, Xu Moyan’s main job was to pick vegetables, so she did not touch the soil much. Therefore, the pungent smell was not too strong.

It was probably just due to her imagination, but she kept thinking it was still there. Therefore, she needed to scrub at it several more times before she finally felt that it was clean enough.

When they finished washing up, they found that the aunty had only just prepared for breakfast. There were store-bought fried dough sticks and stuffed cakes on the table, whilst the congee was homemade.

Jian Muhua was from G City and had been in B City for many years. She would occasionally miss the food in G City, so Old Master Wei had found an aunty from G City who was particularly good at cooking soup and congee. The congee she cooked up this morning was the famous Sampan congee in G City. It was a troublesome dish to prepare, and they had no idea what time the aunty had to wake up just to cook it.

Dried scallops were added to the water beforehand, after which, soft and thick glutinous rice was mixed in alongside slices of fish meat. The fish fillets were from grass carp, and the fishbones were carefully discarded before it was cooked. The grass carp fillets were soaked with salt, cooking wine, and peppercorns to rid of the fishy odor. Once the white and tender flesh was mixed with the white rice, it would be hard to tell them apart, turning the congee into a thick and white milky soup consistency. The peanuts were fried to a crisp, and the fried dough sticks were cut into smaller pieces before being re-fried so that it would turn crispy inside and out. Because of this, it would not soften up quickly even after being soaked in congee. Thus, it would float on the surface of the congee along with the peanuts and fragrant chives.

The rice-flour noodles were fried to a savory crisp before being sprinkled all over the fried dough sticks. It was surrounded by blankets of shredded beef, before finally being topped with two drops of sesame oil.

Even before they dug in, they could smell its fragrant aroma. Xu Moyan could not help but salivate at the smell.

She took her phone out and took a picture of the congee.

Then, they waited for Old Master Wei to take a seat before they began to eat breakfast together.

After they finished their meals, Old Master Wei dragged Jian Muhua to go for an after-meal walk.

Xu Moyan uploaded the photo of the Sampan congee that she took earlier to Weibo and wrote: “It’s been a long time since I’ve uploaded a video tutorial for a culinary delicacy. I ate authentic Sampan congee, made as per G City-style this morning. The aunty is from G City and is an excellent chef. It’s more delicious than anything I’ve ever eaten while on business trips to G City. I’ll ask for a detailed explanation on how to make it later and try it out once I get home. If it’s a success, I’ll upload it for all of you to see.”

“At the end of the day, we’ll only be able to watch. The great lord Yu Linling is the truly blessed one.”

“Sampan congee. I ate it before when I was in G City and it was truly delicious. I came back and searched for the recipe but found that it was too much trouble and gave up. OTL.”

Nowadays, Wei Zilin never allowed himself to miss the opportunity to show off on Weibo. He forwarded Xu Moyan’s post and wrote: “I’ll tell you all about my evaluation of it once I’ve tasted it.”

“The great lord is feeding us dog food 1 again, run!”

Xu Moyan saw it and immediately giggled.

It was as if the fans had gotten livelier after she had gotten together with Wei Zilin.

It seemed that it started during the whole Mo Xiaoqing mishaps. The fans of the two began to interact with one another, and would continuously drop by their Weibo profiles to leave good comments on their posts. It was as if the two sets of fans were slowly becoming fans of the same group.

The two stayed there until the afternoon when they received a phone call from Nan Jingheng. He invited them to go KTV, and mentioned that Wei Ziqi as well as the others would be tagging along.

Xu Moyan heard this and got a hunch that he had arranged for this because of the theme song for Massacre OL.

Sooner or later, she would need to go to the recording studio and embarrass herself anyway, so Xu Moyan agreed to it.

It was a working day the next day, so Jian Muhua did not try to ask them to stay back.

As they were leaving, Old Master Wei did not forget to remind him once more, “Go back and settle the matter regarding our meeting with the in-law’s family; the faster it is, the better.”

Wei Zilin was way more proactive than Old Master Wei when it came to this matter, so he immediately agreed.

After this, the two returned to Wei Yang Garden to change their clothes before heading out to the KTV.

Lin Chu rarely came out as she had been busy with the baby since giving birth. Despite this, on this night, she came out alongside Yan Beicheng.

Yan Beicheng handed two invitations to them. “We’re holding our wedding next month.”

“We wanted to ask you two to be our best man and maid of honor.” Lin Chu said, “I don’t think anyone else would be more suited for the role than you two.”

“I’ve never done it before. Are you sure I should be the one doing it?” Xu Moyan asked uncertainly.

“Yes, of course. You and Zheng Yuntong are my only friends that are still unmarried, and I’m afraid that Assistant Shen won’t be too happy if I ask Zheng Yuntong to be my maid of honor. Besides, Zilin is also a good friend of Beicheng, so it makes the two of you the most suitable for the job,” Lin Chu said.

At a wedding, the best man and the maid of honor would constantly be teased together. If it was Zheng Yuntong and Wei Zilin…

Xu Moyan could already imagine Shen Zongyi’s gloomy expression.

“Alright.” Xu Moyan agreed with a smile and turned to look at Wei Zilin.

Wei Zilin stroked her hair. “You’ve already agreed to do it, so of course I’d agree as well.”

Nan Jingheng was picking songs by the side when he heard this. He quickly discarded the song machine and ran over to them. “Your theme song will probably be released by then, so you two should do a love song duet at the wedding.”

“It’s going to be released next month?” Xu Moyan asked in bewilderment.

“Yup. I’ve contacted a composer, and the lyrics will be out by tomorrow. I’ll find someone to record it for you beforehand, and you’ll learn from them. Will you be free next weekend? I’ll book a recording studio. Let’s go to record the song then,” Nan Jingheng said. “If it goes well, it can be recorded within a day.”

Wei Zilin thought about it before saying, “I can make it. What about you?”

He asked Xu Moyan this, and she nodded at him. “I have nothing to do on that weekend.”

As a result, they decided to go do the recordings on the weekend.

Recording the song went smoother than Xu Moyan had imagined. On Monday, Nan Jingheng very efficiently passed the lyrics and accompaniment demo to Wei Zilin, as well as another copy where the composer sang along with the song.

The composer was a man with a normal voice, but he sang perfectly in tune. Xu Moyan wore headphones and learned slowly by following along. She did this by learning it word by word, before eventually trying to sing the song without the original singer, instead singing directly with the accompaniment demo.

It was exactly like how Nan Jingheng described it. The tone was effortless to remember and carried a style that was commonly used in games. Moreover, it gave out an antiquity vibe.

After repeatedly practicing, she would only miss a few notes each time she sang it. The part where she had to sing along with Wei Zilin actually turned out to be the best part of the song because, since Wei Zilin was singing so well, it gave her the drive to do so as well.

Xu Moyan repeatedly practiced the few notes that she always sung inaccurately. However, she found that when she focused on a specific part, she could not help but mess up the other parts.

On Saturday, the two went to the recording studio together. Nan Jingheng also brought in a professional to provide Xu Moyan some extra guidance.

Although she was able to sing along with the original singer through the headphones this time around, she still made mistakes from time to time.

Every time she made a mistake, it was not so bad that she needed to sing everything once more from the beginning. However, singing the same sentence over and over again was tiresome and was irritating. This was especially so since this was Xu Moyan’s first time recording a song. She wanted to do well, or at least be able to sing the song correctly.

Initially, as she and Wei Zilin were a couple, there was no difficulty for the two to inject emotion into the song. However, because she kept messing up, her emotions were interrupted again and again. Thus, the feelings she initially poured into the recordings were repeatedly disrupted. This made it troublesome to try to build up again.
