House Stuart Staff Union and the Conscientious Insects [Part 1]

“T-THIS IS TERRIBLE!”

A servant of House Stuart ran towards the three siblings in a panic.

“Emma-sama! M-Martha-san… Martha-san unexpectedly ran into the (gigantified☆) tailless whip scorpions and fainted with foam at her mouthhh!”

“ “ “W-W-WHAT DID YOU SAYYY?!” ” ”

The three siblings shuddered upon hearing the servant’s report right after returning home from the academy.

Emma’s handmaid, Martha, hated insects the most among the servants working at House Stuart. She was somewhat tolerant of the silkworms, which were the source of income for the family, and Violet, the spider that saved Emma’s life. But she was about to run out of patience with the tailless whip scorpions Emma recently brought home in mass and started raising.

There was no doubt that Martha’s opinion was a perfectly valid complaint.

Emma’s favorite tailless whip scorpions, the new faces of her insect collection, had a pretty shocking appearance. Even if one didn’t hate insects, that form would make one scream if it suddenly appeared before one’s eyes. Martha got chills up her spine just by imagining it gathering in swarms.

She had been careful to avoid coming across the tailless whip scorpions, but some jobs required her to go out to the garden. She had been keeping herself on alert as much as possible, but it was just her luck to meet them today.

Moreover, the tailless whip scorpions had been gigantified, just like any other Stuarts’ pets.

No human being could stay calm after seeing the swarm of huge tailless whip scorpions. All the more so for the insect-hating Martha. She fell on the spot and lost consciousness.

It goes without saying that Martha’s last string of patience had completely snapped amid her consciousness fading away from the shock.

An organization established to ensure that employees could work in a healthy environment and weren’t unfairly treated by employers probably only existed in House Stuart in this world.

That’s right, it was the [Staff Union].

The union often appealed requests and complaints to their employer, the Stuart family, to improve the employees’ working environment.

The overwhelming majority of the requests and complaints from the union to the Stuart family were basically related to insects. Still, both sides had managed to come to an agreement until now after several discussions.

However, it might be tough to come to a mutual understanding this time alone.

Emma held her head upon seeing the hellish scene before her where everyone shrieked and scrambled around because the (gigantified☆) tailless whip scorpions were carrying the unconscious Martha with foam at her mouth on their backs to the mansion.

The union president of the [House Stuart Staff Union], which, to tell you the truth, couldn’t be dealt with by ordinary means, was the person in question, Martha herself.

Several days later.

“Today’s agenda concerns the tailless whip scorpions.”

The Staff Union representatives (servants) sat face-to-face with the family in House Stuart’s meeting room.

“We were not informed of their gigantification. This information is crucial for the employees’ work, yet has not been released… which is an alarming problem. What do Masters think?”

The Staff Union President Martha looked at Emma.

Only one truth prevails: The culprit of anything insect-related can only point to one person.

“A-Alarming, you said! I-I just thought I shouldn’t tell Martha things that will deliberately scare (anger) you when you are bad with insects (cuz I don’t want to get scolded)…”

Emma was already lectured by her mother on this matter. She didn’t want to be scolded by Martha too.

“Emma-sama? Do you understand the feelings of people who are bad with insects? Insects to us are so frightening that our hearts seem like they will stop just by hearing rustling sounds from behind us, understand? And in this mansion, the size of the true forms of those rustling sounds is downright nasty!”

The maids pouring and serving out the tea nodded to Martha’s statement.

Until now, there was only Violet, but now a swarm of large tailless whip scorpions might be right behind them when they turned around, making them unable to work in peace.

“But we ran it by the employees who aren’t bad with insects. Emma just didn’t tell you out of kindness. She meant no harm, okay, Martha?”

Leonard defended Emma like always.

“I would have quit long ago if she did this with any ill intentions!

Please refrain from spoiling your daughter too much!”

Martha glared at Leonard, her employer, and expressed the collective opinion of the union.

“We strongly demand the improvement of our work environment!”

Thus, the insect isolation plan was proposed by the angry Martha.

“We shall turn a blind eye about keeping insects as pets this time. However, raise them somewhere our sights do not reach as much as possible and report and give us a heads-up immediately if, by any chance, the insects increase or gigantify!”

House Stuart Staff Union (or rather, Martha) had such a powerful stance that the family could only nod.
