We Can’t Afford Seven Days of Fire [Part 2]

Before coming to this country, Joanna had also heard it from the rumors. Now that she had actually experienced it herself, it had inconvenienced her terribly. She must call a maid for everything in the Royal Castle. Bringing water to wash her face, preparing a lamp when the room got dark… She came across every trifle that would be deemed unnecessary in the Empire.

Water for washing her face wasn’t something she couldn’t conjure using magic, but if she had done that, she would have put herself on the spot when someone asked her where the water came from.

In the Kingdom, maids always taking care of every little thing in the room was normal, and thus it was no different than her being put under surveillance 24 hours a day. Her movements became more restricted than imagined, and she struggled to have some alone time.

These guys complained that she came late, but they didn’t know that the reason why she was able to even come in the end was only because she had somehow found an opening and slipped out without alarming anyone.

“*snort* Then you mean that we have to wait until the streetlights light up before we attack?”

A quick-witted magician quickly caught on to what Joanna was trying to say and widened his eyes.

“Yeah, the fire sources will increase on their own when night comes. Very effective for us, right?”

The Empire military authorities had told them to destroy the city thoroughly. The streetlights would work well as fuel for the shells they were about to fire from now on. Because the street lights lit up all over the Royal Capital.

Joanna lifted the corner of her mouth into a grin. The Kingdom without magic would surely not have decent firefighting equipment. If things went well, the Royal Capital might continue burning for seven days with all the artillery and streetlights.

“…they said, something, like that.”

-Inside Imperial Japan’s ship next to the Empire’s ships, Port of Simmons-

Momochi, who understood the Kingdom language best among the ninjas staying in the Kingdom, reported to Prince Tasuku and Joshua about the situation inside the Empire’s ship he infiltrated.

“How terrible…”

“……”

Imperial Prince Tasuku frowned while Joshua fell into contemplation with a grunt.

“They will carry out the plan tonight. This matter demands more urgency than we thought.”

The sun had already started to set, and it was only a matter of time before the sky turned dark. They wouldn’t make it even if they asked the people to evacuate now. Ten-thousands of people lived in the Royal Capital.

Saying something like [The Empire is firing artillery at us]… No one would believe them. No one would assume another country would come to attack. The idea simply never crossed anyone’s mind before.

Should I restrain them?

The head of the ninjas, Hattori Hanzou, had Momochi repeat his report in Imperial Japanese language before asking Imperial Prince Tasuku for instructions.

Can you?”

Imperial Prince Tasuku didn’t even want to start weighing whether Imperial Japan should involve itself in the Kingdom and the Empire’s problem anymore.

Yes. There are a total of four magicians. Each ship has fifty sailors and thirty people who appear to be soldiers… If Momochi’s report is accurate, restraining them is not impossible…

The number of people on board was little for ships of that size. You could even say it was too few personnel to attack the Kingdom, a major nation ranking right behind the Empire.

I guess it just means they have that much confidence in the artillery’s power…

‘We can’t let even one shell drop on the Royal Capital…’ thought the Imperial Prince Tasuku before turning to face Joshua and uttering,

“Luckle!”

“I see, the ninjas can subdue the Imperial Army… Other than that, is capturing the magicians alive also possible? That’s good news. …Then, can you bring the four magicians over to this ship?”

The San Crossian language was really easy to use.
