Chapter 444: Xi Jin Departs For The Guiyuan Continent Once Again

.I”Ya’er?” Jiang Ying frowned and gave her a worried look. So the Crown Prince had arrived, what was she getting so flustered for?

Shen Yunya explained hurriedly, “The Crown Prince liked Elder Sister and Elder Sister loved you. If he learns that you’re with me so quickly after Elder Sister’s passing, he’ll become suspicious and he might even realize something is up. I’m afraid that will make him want to side with her, and then, he’ll definitely not let you go.”

Jiang Ying’s frown disappeared as he heard her explanation of the situation. He took a few steps back and stood a distance away from her. “Alright then…”

“Your Highness!” a maid greeted respectfully from outside the room.

Shen Yunya’s face became even paler in her anxiety. “Brother Ying.”

“I just wanted to take a look at some of Dai’er’s belongings. Now that she’s no longer here, I thought about remembering her by taking some of her things.” Jiang Ying knew the most likely outcome of this situation. If he left immediately, he would definitely run into the Crown Prince on the way out and look even more suspicious. Therefore, the only way out was to bite the bullet and put up the act all the way.

Xi Jin entered the room and saw Jiang Ying. He had heard what Jiang Ying said as he came in and frowned slightly. He responded in a deep tone, “No one is allowed to touch Dai’er’s belongings.”

When he saw Jiang Ying, he immediately thought of Dai’er’s last words. It made him feel revolted just to look him in the eye, but he couldn’t ignore her final request.

“It was merely a thought. There isn’t anything for me to take anyway, so I will head back first.” If he wasn’t trying to avoid appearing suspicious to Xi Jin, he would never have said that he wanted anything of hers. In his eyes, Shen Qingdai’s belongings were utterly filthy.

After Jiang Ying took his leave, Shen Yunya felt what little energy she had left, dissipate. Her body became weak and she almost fell onto the ground. Xi Jin reached out and grabbed her before she collapsed. He scolded her, “You are still so weak, why are you out here instead of getting the rest you need?”

“Brother Ying received the news that Elder Sister might still be alive. He even came all the way just to ask me about it.” Shen Yunya stood up on her own, pulling herself from Xi Jin’s arms. Her small pale face was now flushed with shades of red.

Part of her plan involved taking advantage of Brother Jin and staying in his arms would have been a good move, but for now, she should just play cat and mouse with him. She had to make Brother Jin think that she was a disciplined woman first.

Xi Jin stepped away from her. “I am here for the same matter. I think I will make a trip to the Guiyuan Continent tomorrow to make sure that she is really Dai’er.”

“Brother Jin wants to go again?”

Xi Jin made a sound of affirmation. “I will go just one more time. If she is not Dai’er, then I will place down a bride-price and get betrothed to you.”

Hearing the words “bride-price” and “betrothed” made Shen Yunya’s face brighten up. However, she suppressed her happiness carefully and spoke gently, “Brother Jin, Elder Sister just said those words casually. You don’t have to take them so seriously.”

“As long as those are Dai’er’s words, I will fulfill them.” Xi Jin’s quiet voice carried hints of unmovable determination.

“And what if she is Elder Sister?” Shen Yunya bit her lower lip slightly as tears started brimming her eyes. Her voice quivered a little, giving the impression that she was trying her best to hide her unresolved grief and sadness.

Xi Jin frowned and did not respond.

Shen Yunya giggled. “Brother Jin, you don’t have to put yourself in a difficult position. I will go with you tomorrow to check her out.”

“Ya’er.” Xi Jin felt a bit guilty. Although it was not good for him to think about it, when he thought about Dai’er still alive somewhere, he could bring himself to marry another woman—it made him seriously consider staying single forever.

“It’s alright.” Shen Yunya smiled faintly. She appeared generous on the outside, but her eyes gave away her sorrow. “Brother Ying said that he wanted to go as well. Elder Sister loved him to the very depths of her soul. If she were to see him again, no matter how much memory she has lost, she will definitely react to him somehow.”

Xi Jin felt a hand squeeze his heart. It was so painful that for a moment, he struggled to breathe. She loved him to the very depths of her soul. Even if she was reborn, even if she lost her memory, would Dai’er still fall in love with Jiang Ying all over again?

But, if he could just confirm that the person was really Dai’er…if he could confirm that Dai’er was still alive…if he could only see that Dai’er was happy… then it shouldn’t be a problem if she loved someone else, right?
