Chapter 186 – What separates humans and animals is self-control and knowing your moral bottom line (2)
That night, Li Jing felt so upset and uncomfortable. She didn’t know who she could talk to. She also knew that no one could understand her if she told these thoughts to someone else. If she did, that person might even feel she was morally reprehensible.
Her older brother was pressing her so hard. Was her only choice really to resign? Li Jing couldn’t think of any other options. She was very anxious, but all she could do was helplessly worry about it.
She walked outside to get some fresh air. She was also worried that her parents would see and keep asking her about it. After all, she couldn’t hide her expression. While she was strolling around, she heard a female voice from behind her calling out, “Li Jing? Is it really you?”
Li Jing looked back. Unable to recognize this woman, she had an awkward and at a loss expression.“Don’t remember me? We used to be in the same club.” The woman approached her with a beaming smile. “What a coincidence to meet here. You were so caring of me back then. Are you free right now? If you do, let me buy you a drink.”
After this introduction, Li Jing finally matched a name to this woman. There were a lot of people in that club at that time. Although she remembered the name, she couldn’t remember what that person looked like.
The woman was too friendly, so Li Jing couldn’t refuse her and followed her to a nearby bar. Anyways, she happened to be free and drinking would be a form of stress relief.

On Monday, it was Ruan Xia’s first day of work. She woke up very early in the morning. She hadn’t been working for several months, so she was somewhat unaccustomed to it and also somewhat excited and looking forward to it.
Song Tingshen offered to drop her off at work even though Ruan Xia had a car of her own. Although she didn’t know why Song Tingshen would offer, she didn’t want to refuse his good intentions. She nodded in agreement and planned on taking a taxi back when she got off from work.
Ruan Xia was wearing a white outfit today. It was beautiful and tasteful while still being suitable for work. She didn’t even forget to pack her mug.As Song Tingshen watched her bustling about and looking as excited as Little Wang when he was going to participate in a spring outing, he thought that her current state was very good. Although that company was generous to the point of being suspicious, that wasn’t a problem as long as she was happy. No matter how much money he gave her, it couldn’t compare to the joy of earning money herself.
The distance between her workplace and home was short to begin with. There was no traffic jam either. Song Tingshen was driving while Ruan Xia sat in the passenger seat.
Song Tingshen didn’t know what was going on with his mental state. He just wanted to advise her more. He didn’t stop talking the entire car ride. “Don’t be too anxious to integrate yourself. You’re a newcomer. Just work on doing your job responsibilities well. You just joined the company and your coworkers might have you do some miscellaneous tasks such as ordering meals or afternoon tea and helping with photocopying and scanning. That’s very normal. Newcomers in any department will most likely encounter that. As long as their requests aren’t too excessive and you’re willing, just do them.”
Ruan Xia found it quite amusing that he was giving her this advice. She wasn’t a newcomer in the workplace. She already knew these truths and little rules. Still, she acted as if she found this advice was useful and nodded. “Okay, I got it. Anything else?”
“Observe more, listen more, and ask more. If there’s something you don’t understand and feel awkward asking other coworkers, you can wait and ask me after you get off from work.” Song Tingshen thought it over. “Actually, the most important thing is your happiness. If the work environment or your coworkers make you unhappy, just resign. You can take your time to look for a new job or do something else that you enjoy.”
