Back in Jingdu, the first thing Xia Lei did was to return to Thunder Horse Military Factory and seal Princess Yongmei away. He did not dare to just casually let her out anymore after discovering that she could make people go mad and die. He then went with Shentu Tianyin to Boai Hospital to visit Fu Mingmei.
Fu Mingmei was out of the operating room but not yet awake from her anaesthetised sleep. Shentu Tianyin arranged for someone to take care of her, then left the hospital with Xia Lei.
“I think we should tell Mingmei’s father. He should know about this,” said Xia Lei to Shentu Tianyin as they exited the hospital.
“Tell him tomorrow. You don’t have to worry about this, I’ll take care of it,” said Shentu Tianyin.Xia Lei sighed. “Lucky thing those people had no intention to kill her or she wouldn’t be on this Earth any longer. Be more careful from now on. Take more bodyguards with you when you go out.”
Shentu Tianyin took Xia Lei’s arm. “Nn, I’ll do as you say.” She abruptly remembered something. “Oh, right, I’ll give Gu Kewen a call. I wonder if she’s all right.”
“No need. Her phone is definitely switched off,” said Xia Lei.
“No way. I’ve told her that her phone has to be on, 24/7.” Shentu Tianyin did not believe it and took out her phone to call Gu Kewen. Xia Lei was right - Gu Kewen’s phone was off.
Shentu Tianyin was a smart woman and she seemed to realise something. “Gu Kewen, she…”
“She works for the CIA. She was undergoing CIA training during the time she’d gone quiet. She came back, to your side, to assist you in accumulating her old Gu clan assets to gain your trust. If she hadn’t acted as an internal contact this time, you wouldn’t have been kidnapped and Fu Mingmei wouldn’t have been injured.”
Shame flickered in Shentu Tianyin’s eyes and she was silent for a bit before she said, “You warned me early on that I should not trust Gu Kewen but I still trusted her. But it’s not because I didn’t trust your judgement, it’s because I thought I had the ability to control her. I didn’t expect that... “Xia Lei gave her a smile. “Never mind that. No need to bring up what’s passed. Gu Kewen has probably fled the country, and the chances of you two meeting again is as good as nil. Plus, Ahn Suhyeong is involved too - you have to be very careful.”
Shentu Tianyin looked into Xia Lei’s eyes. “You’ll beat him up if he comes to harm me, right?”
“No,” said Xia Lei.
“Huh?” Shentu Tianyin looked surprised.
Xia Lei smiled right away. “I’ll flatten him before he hurts you.”
Shentu Tianyin hit Xia Lei lightly in coquettish anger.
Xia Lei caught her hand. “Tianyin, there are a lot of people after my life, and what’s in my brain. There will be a lot of unexpected dangers if you’re with me. It’s like this, so… are you still willing to be with me?”
Shentu Tianyin glared at Xia Lei. “You’re not allowed to say things like this. You are my fiance. You are the man who’s fated to be with me for the rest of our lives. Accepting your proposal means I’ve accepted all of you, and I don’t care what danger there will be - it will not separate us.”
Xia Lei was touched. “I…”
Shentu Tianyin suddenly kissed him on the lips, not letting him say more.
This kiss seemed to be the best answer. There was no need for words.
Quite a few people were standing and looking in the entrance of the hospital but they ceased to exist for Shentu Tianyin and Xia Lei. It had been over two years from their meeting to them getting engaged; their relationship had gone through twists and turns and they had suppressed their feelings all this time. Why would they care about about how the world saw them, when they finally had the chance to let their feelings show?
However, they were still in public after all and they fled from the hospital after their impulsiveness cooled.
Back in Shentu Tianyin’s Jingdu home, her father, Shentu Ren had already gone to bed. She had not planned on telling him about the kidnapping anyway so as not to worry him. This was good. There wouldn’t be troublesome explanations.
They went upstairs and Shentu Tianyin pulled Xia Lei’s hand. “Come to my room. I’ll treat your wounds.”
Xia Lei was a little embarrassed and a little nervous, but these feelings quickly disappeared. Shentu Tianyin and him were already fiance and fiancee, one level more intimate than he had been with Liang Siyao. What was there to be embarrassed and nervous about when going to her room to get his wounds tended to?
“I’ll get the first-aid box. Wait here,” said Shentu Tianyin after she led him into her room.
“Then I’ll take a shower first. I’m a little itchy,” said Xia Lei.
Shentu Tianyin gave a laugh. “Then you’ll have to use my towel and my bathrobe. Father is already asleep and I don’t want to take his towel and bathrobe from his room.”
Xia Lei had put his embarrassment aside but the thought of using a woman’s towel and bathrobe brought the embarrassment out again.
He went into the bathroom after Shentu Tianyin left the room. He did not use the bathtub but used the shower head to rinse away the blood and sweat on his body, the reed pollen which had stuck to his body in the reeds, and other dirty things. While showering, he discovered that his body was covered with small cuts from the sharp edges of reed leaves.
He looked at the wounds on his backside in the mirror and frowned, mumbling to himself, “Is Tianyin going to treat the wounds here too? It’s too embarrassing, right?”
It was still awkward.
Xia Lei put on Shentu Tianyin’s bathrobe after getting out of the shower. It was pink and had flowers on it; it was very girly.
Xia Lei sat by the bed to wait after he was done straightening himself out. The wait took half an hour. He was puzzled. ‘Did she go out to buy a first-aid kit because she doesn’t have one at home?’ He then smiled wryly. ‘Good thing it’s just small wounds. I’ll die if I had big wounds and had to wait so long.’
It was hard not to let his thoughts wander when he was alone in the room.
He waited a few minutes more and Shentu Tianyin returned. She had taken a bath and put on a pure-white bathrobe. Her raven-black hair gleamed on her shoulders; there were still some water droplets between the ends of her hair. There was a fragrance coming from her, and she looked to have put on some makeup. She was a beautiful woman with elegant almond-shaped eyes, plump, peachy lips all soft and tender, and a face as exquisite as fine jade; a fairy-like beauty.
She carried a first-aid box in her hands and a meaningful look in her eyes. She would be the most beautiful nurse in the world if she put a nurse’s uniform on.
Xia Lei couldn’t help being dumbstruck. She was his woman. This ridiculously good-looking person was his woman. His heart was filled with bliss.
Xia Lei’s reaction made Shentu Tianyin smile. She walked over to him and went straight to the point. “Take off the bathrobe. I’ll tend to your wounds.”
Xia Lei then snapped back to his senses and untied the bathrobe belt.
“Heehee…” Shentu Tianyin suddenly held a hand over her mouth and bent over in laughter.
Xia Lei then discovered that he had exposed the red lace underwear he was wearing. He should have told Shentu Tianyin, to prepare her for the sight, but he had forgotten.
“Um… Mine was torn, and dirty,” explained Xia Lei sheepishly. “So I… I wore yours. You don’t mind, do you?”
Shentu Tianyin laughed with her hand over her mouth. “We’re almost husband-and-wife, so what’s there to mind? If you want to wear this, then I have many others in different colours and designs.”
Xia Lei’s expression was like the Chinese character ‘冏’.
“You look quite good in it.” Shentu Tianyin laughed again.
“Can you stop talking about it?” Xia Lei smiled wryly. “I’m embarrassed enough.”
“Okay, okay, I won’t tease you anymore. I’ll treat your wounds.” Shentu Tianyin opened the first-aid box and took a bottle of hydrogen peroxide to spray on Xia Lei’s wounds.
Xia Lei clenched his jaw in pain as the hydrogen peroxide lit on his flesh.
After spraying his front, Shentu Tianyin said, “Lie on the bed. I’ll spray the wounds on your back.”
Xia Lei lay flat on the bed, the thoughts in his head in uproar.
Shentu Tianyin quickly sprayed the wounds on his back and legs.
Xia Lei grew nervous. “Tianyin…”
Szzt! Hydrogen peroxide landed.
Xia Lei let out a soft groan as the cleansing burn consumed his skin. He swallowed the words he wanted to say.
