Chapter 61: Requirement as a ruler
“Throwing weapons?” Marie asked.
“Yeah.”
Dohyuk’s new skill required him to wield a weapon.
<[A Yamook is a monkey-human with poison in its body. Yamooks were ancient beings that survived through long periods of time and they rolled their fur to balls for hunting. Assassins of the Old Empire mixed them with poison complete their assassination skills.]
-Proficiency – 1/10 Grade
Dohyuk wasn’t interested in using the skill when he first acquired it. If he understood correctly, he would need small projectiles to use it. It was an entirely different method of fighting in comparison to his kicking skill, but…
‘I need something different.’
He had already experienced fights that he couldn’t do well in, and such was the fight against Kang Changkun. If it wasn’t for his ‘flame’…
‘I would’ve died.’
His Nature was powerful, and he even had Divine Powers. Nonetheless, he had to be prepared for anything.“W-wait up. Let me see…”
Marie slipped off her backpack and began to check. She was drenched in sweat, and it seemed like it was there even before Dohyuk called her.
“I guess you’ve been busy lately?”
“Huh? Oh.”
Marie nodded. “I’ve been summoned a lot lately. But the group as a whole has been doing really well.”
The reason was obvious: power inflation. The amount of coins that the new gods were giving away had increased exponentially.
“How much do those people usually spend?”
“Hm…”
Marie thought a bit.
“I think they use about… a million. But that’s only in my case. We have a limit to how much we can sell,” Marie answered. “Thanks to you, my limit went up to AA+. Most AA+ items average about 600 thousand to 1.8 million…”
“That’s a big difference.”
“Yeah, it’s normal.”
Even if the rank was the same, the item prices differed based on the options or traits that it had.
“Hmm…”
Marie didn’t look too happy though.
“Any problems?”
“I looked around, but I don’t have any throwing weapons…”
“Hmm, I see.”
“It’s actually… been sold.”
“Huh? When?”
“Just now, before you summoned me. It wasn’t too far from here.”
Marie was concerned. In the previous transaction, Dohyuk had sold her a Godly Item as promised. But in their current transaction, Marie couldn’t satisfy Dohyuk’s request. It wouldn’t be strange for Dohyuk to refuse to buy anything from her in the future.
“If… if you wait for a bit… I’ll go and get a…”
“I don’t need it.”
Marie gasped.
“I don’t think I’ll buy anything from you today.”
“…!”
She felt her heart dropping. She could imagine herself in the future with reputation dropping because she failed to sell. She’d then drop to the bottom and…
“Heeeek.”
Marie quickly bowed down to the ground, but Dohyuk mentioned, “I want to purchase a service instead.”
“…!”
“It might be unethical for you to do this… but you don’t have a choice, right? I’m disappointed by you… and you need to live up to my expectations.”
Marie looked up to Dohyuk. Her body was shaking as she looked up in reluctance.
“What do you think?”
“…”
“Well, if you don’t want it…”
“O-Okay…”
She was almost crying as she spoke. Her face turned red as she did. She then took off turban from her head; her blonde hair was revealed and she also took off the robes she was wearing, stripping down to her underwear. Only her neck, two arms, and skin below the knees were revealed, but it was a too much skin exposure for her culture.
“…”
Was it the right choice? Did she really have to go through this to become the great merchant? Thoughts stormed in her head as she looked at Dohyuk with tearful eyes.
“…What?”
“…Huh?”
Dohyuk frowned.
“Why did you take off your clothes?”
“Didn’t you say you wanted to do the ‘unethical’ thing…?”
Dohyuk scratched his head.
“Ugh, I’m not talking about that. I just want information about the customer you just met.”
“Huh?”
“The one who bought the throwing weapon. You said it was around here.”
“…Huh?”
“Tell me his location…. Stop saying ‘huh’. Are you doing it on purpose because you’re embarrassed?”
“….Huh?”
“Should we stop here then? I’ll call you in a few hours.”
“Huh- N-no!”
Marie quickly came back to her senses and put on her robes and turban again. Dohyuk thought becoming silent would be more awkward so he asked a question while she put on her clothes.
“How close is it? Can I walk there?”
It wasn’t far. It was close enough to see the smoke that was coming up from it, and one could even smell it.
There was a cabin there. It used to be cabin owned by a rich mogul of Korea, but it was just a dump now. Since it was built with top anti-earthquake technology, a lot of the structures remained intact, and within it was a Four Circle.
“The forests are gone? All of it?”
“Yes.”
Lee Yuri narrowed her eyes at the surprising report.
“We’re screwed.”
“Yes. Changkun is…”
“No, not him.”
“Huh?”
“Didn’t you said it was all burned?”
Yuri leaned back. The water that covered up to her shoulder was now up to her chin.
“I just thought I missed my opportunity when I first saw the smoke.. What kind of lunatic burned the forest?”
“Huh… Were you trying to kill Changkun?” the man asked back in disbelief. In the Circle, it was actually encouraged to fight against each other ‘if it was doable’. But Kang Changkun…
“Why? Do you think I can’t do it?”
“N-no, ma’am!” the man shouted in fear.
“I have never doubted your power!”
The woman in front dived into a pool, and although she looked like she was in her early 20s, she was a very powerful woman. In the previous life, she started out as a ‘slave’ and became a Two Circle, achieving enough feats to rise closer to the Three Circle. And when she started again, she quickly became a Three Circle, and now she was at Four.
“B-but I just thought if it was worth it to…”
Yuri was stronger than Changkun, but fighting a follower of a god was like sieging a castle. It would require at least 3 times the power to overcome it. But even if it was done…
“You would only get the forest. There’s nothing good in it.”
Forest of Grava wasn’t all that good of a region. The regions differed due to the difference between all the gods. Grava was a powerful god, but a god’s power did not equal the usefulness of the region. The only thing that was worthwhile was an extract that came from the tree called Ragova. But even that wasn’t too great. The pros of having the extract was that it was full of nutrients and calories.
“If you do not intend to serve Grava, that place is…”
“Idiot.”
“H-huh?”
“Are you a Two Circle? How many slaves do you have?”
“T-ten, ma’am.”
The man had a bit of a power as he was high-ranked Two Circle, but he wasn’t powerful enough to become a Three Circle.
“Do you like it?”
“P-pardon?”
“You probably didn’t have any ‘slaves’ in the previous life, right? How do you like it? Is it good?”
“Y-yes, ma’am.”
Why would it not be? To those strong ones, this second life was like a gift. This man, who was just a normal fighter, was now strong enough to own ten slaves.
“Then enjoy while you can.”
“I-I don’t get what you mean.”
“Huh? I mean exactly what I said.”
Yuri looked at the man. “Let me see… a year? Or maybe a few months? You won’t have any slaves under you soon.”
“…!”
The man then jumped down, kneeling in front of her on the ground.
“I-I’m sorry, ma’am!”
He didn’t know why.
“Please forgive me If I was too…”
He just assumed Yuri was going to do something to him.
“Idiot.”
She just laughed. The man was too dumb to realize it, but it was the same for most people anyway.
‘They don’t know what’s important.’
All they were interested in was good equipment or how to gain a good religion. They didn’t care about what would happen later. What was going to happen within the next few months? The biggest difference in this second life wasn’t the gods that came down in huge numbers.
‘More people are alive this time.’
The number of people that were alive was much more than before Even in the previous life, people fought over limited food supply constantly. People waged war across regions with monsters that were hunted for food. People did not hesitate to partake in cannibalism either.
Everything was only going to get worse in this world. That’s why Changkun’s forest was valuable.
‘Just one or two items will not allow one to stay on top.’
What was needed was a group. That was the requirement to be a ruler in this world.
Yuri then stood up.
“Hmph. I guess I’ll have to conserve these too.”
She spoke as she watched the white liquid flowing down her curvy body. The pool big enough to hold over twenty people was filled with the milk of an animal.
“Send men to scout the area. Now.”
Yuri issued an order to the man who was still face down on the ground.
“If there’s anything… No. Even if there’s nothing, I’ll take a look myself.”
“Y…you are going there?”
“Yeah. I’ll find that bastard who ruined my plan.”
In fact, she had a new piece of equipment she just purchased a while ago that she wanted to test out.
Marie returned. Dohyuk carefully memorized the ‘customer’s information’ that she had leaked.
“…Coincidence?’
The customer’s region was the same region that Aruga had pointed out to him, the region that was worth using Divine Power to snatch it away.
“I guess I’ll kill two birds with one stone.”
It seemed good. He couldn’t buy the item, but now he was given the chance to acquire it for free. The item cost 1,350,000. Even if there was inflation, the amount of coins required to purchase the item wasn’t acquirable by anyone unless it was the region’s leader or something.
It wasn’t too far. Once he was done resting… he would head out straight away. It had been a hard day. But before he fell asleep, there was one more thing he needed to do.
-Faith: 140024
Even if he had to use all these resources, he needed to know about ‘her’ completely. She was, after all, his best firepower at hand.
“Come out. But don’t say or eat anything.”
As he spoke, a Barbie-sized figure appeared.
-….
With an expression full of complaints, the former Goddess of Fire scanned Dohyuk from top to bottom.
“…I’m not usually naked.”
Dohyuk quickly made his comment and then asked the question he had been wanting to ask for a long time.
