Luo Zhanyu told her briefly about the situation when Di Fuyi first came in. Gu Xijiu took a look at the mussel that was now hiding in the corner. The mussel retreated even further. “Master, I tried my best.”

“Why didn’t you tell me about his injury when you first saw me? You told me nonsense instead.”

If the mussel had told her about him earlier, she would save him first.

The mussel had nothing else to say and retreated into its shells. The first thing that it had said to its master was to compliment her bravery instead of telling her about him. Not long after that, she teleported without listening to it any further.

It was not the time to blame anyone. Gu Xijiu took a breath to calm herself down. She told Luo Zhanyu to go back and rest, as she would never leave Di Fuyi alone.

Luo Zhanyu failed to convince her, so he made her eat the supper that he had prepared nutritiously. He thought about it for a moment, as there was not anything much that they could do for Di Fuyi, so he suggested that Gu Xijiu should go and take a look at Baili Ce.

Gu Xijiu shook her head. “There is no need. Although I did not finish the surgery, I had completely connected his nerves and bones. You only need to put more dressings for him,” she continued with a list of herbs that Luo Zhanyu should take note of to help Baili Ce.

She did not plan to leave at all.

Luo Zhanyu looked at her fixedly. “Xijiu, do you love him?”

Gu Xijiu was breathless momentarily. She took a look at Di Fuyi, who was now lying on the bed. She did not deny it. “Yes, I do.”

“Then why did you… Did he do something bad to you?” Luo Zhanyu wanted to clear things up.

Gu Xijiu looked down. What she had with Di Fuyi was too complicated. She could not possibly make things clear for him to understand in two or three words. Moreover, she did not like to entertain people with her love story. She shook her head in refusal. “Brother, I am a little tired, please excuse me.”

Luo Zhanyu could see her pale, tired face, so he no longer wished to force her into telling her story. He then asked her to take care of herself before leaving.

The next morning, he was still worried about his sister, so he came by to visit her, only to witness how restless Gu Xijiu was to take care of Di Fuyi. She was wiping his face and body.

“How is he doing?” Luo Zhanyu took a look at Di Fuyi. There was no sign of consciousness.

“He had a fever last night. It has just disappeared,” Gu Xijiu answered him, with a tired face and heavy eye bags.

Luo Zhanyu was worried, as she was visibly restless for the entire night. She did not have any rest at all.

He stepped forward to read his pulse. It was the same as yesterday. He furrowed his brows. “Is he still unconscious?”

Gu Xijiu nodded. “Yes… Yes, I probably gave him too much anesthetic before I operated, which is why he will not wake up. Brother, can you tell if his pulse is getting better than yesterday?”

Her medical knowledge was better than Luo Zhanyu’s. She could easily tell what Luo Zhanyu could tell. She was probably too eager for his recovery and thus was losing her sense of judgment. She hoped she was wrong about it.

Luo Zhanyu could see her hopeful eyes and did not wish to break her heart, so he nodded against his conscience. “Hmm, it is better than yesterday. Xijiu, you should not be too eager. He is too severely injured, so it will take some time before he regains his consciousness. At least his condition did not worsen, right?”

Gu Xijiu nodded and answered briefly, “That should be the case. The first 24 hours after the operation are crucial. It is not even 24 hours yet, so no news is good news.”
