chapter-2283
“No wonder that the city is so cheerfully decorated with the red ribbons almost everywhere. All the streets are clean, too. It is all because of the princess’s birthday tomorrow. Too bad, we have to leave tonight. Otherwise, I would like to stay to witness the celebration,” Luo Zheng pointed out with regret.
Gu Xijiu took a sip of her wine. Suddenly, there was a hubbub in the streets. An announcement could be heard from afar, “The Devil King has returned to the city!”
Gu Xijiu’s heart skipped a few beats upon hearing the announcement. She really wanted to meet the Devil King. She had to make an excuse to go to the outside of the restaurant and have a careful look since the hall in the restaurant did not have a view of the street.
To her surprise, all the people around her left their seats to join the crowd, too.
“Ah, the Devil King has returned!”“We have to welcome his arrival!”
“Great! I did not expect to see the Devil King today. I must not let the chance slip!”
The lively discussions continued.
The clamors of the people bubbled up as they rushed outside. Gu Xijiu did not know what to say. At least, she did not have to make up any excuses.
She followed the people to the outside of the restaurant. The bustling streets were becoming even livelier with the hustle of larger crowds coming from every direction. People had to inch through the teeming streets to get to the best spot.
The people lined up along the streets in an orderly manner even though it was crowded. All of them anticipated the king’s arrival.
Gu Xijiu looked in the same direction as everyone else did. Her heart throbbed in excitement. From a distance, there were troops circling a carriage. The material of the carriage was hard to tell. The main color was bluish-green, complemented by delicate, jewel-like paintings of fleecy clouds. A red sun was pictured plunging its charming ray through the white puffs. At the bottom, roaring waves surged turbulently. At the top, a group of seagulls hovered over the surging waves, unafraid. The roof of the carriage resembled the top of a palanquin. At every corner, hung a small, classic bell that made a ringing sound every time the carriage moved. Rhythmically, the bells chimed and made melodious sound along the way.
Four triumphantly happy flying horses carried the carriage. They were all tall and strong, fastened by a jade-like saddle that shimmered in the sun. The devil soldiers and generals walked alongside, silently.
The troops were clearly trained. All movements were done in unison with an emphasis on order and command. They exuded their iron wills through every single step, giving the people a sense of intimidation.
The curtains were drawn, so the people could hardly see the face of the Devil King.
“The Devil King!”
“Your Majesty!”
As soon as the troops drew closer, the crowds dropped to their knees and bowed before the carriage as it moved. They bowed to the Devil King with great admiration, like how the mortals would react when they met a magnificent celestial being. It was nothing like the way people bowed before Ye Ling.
Here in the Devil Kingdom, the people truly adored their king. It was a way to show how much they actually respected the Devil King. As for Ye Ling, all he did was to force his people to kneel, so they did.
As the troops continued to travel through the bustling streets, people cheered and celebrated in great excitement. The waves of cheering were so loud, almost deafening.
Gu Xijiu was among the crowd and felt as if she was going to be deaf. The baby in her backpack woke up and had to raise his head to see what was going on. His sleepy eyes scanned the people around him. As for the Silver Wolf, it was worried that it might get lost in the sea of people, so it followed Gu Xijiu’s every step very closely.
For someone like Gu Xijiu, who had been highly ranked with a superior status for so long, she would definitely not kneel for anyone. It was not a must to kneel, anyway. Thus, she stood leaning against a wall and watched as the troops passed by.
Luo Zheng tried to pull her down, but she refused. Attentively, she tried to observe the man in the carriage through the curtains, but there was no way she could see beyond the screen. She could not even identify his robes.
