chapter-2379
The underground tunnel was about a hundred meters deep into the surface of the earth. The entire passage was dark and moist. The walls were not evenly scrapped, and the group believed that the passage was created when a giant creature made its way through the ground. Occasionally, there would be some pools of mud on the ground, which was something very commonly found in an underground cave.
Gu Xijiu was still taking the lead at that point. Out of curiosity, she would walk closely to the walls of the cave and take a closer look.
Di Fuyi followed her. “What have you found?” He asked.
“This place has been abandoned for a long time; at least ten years.”
“What else?”“The passage must have been created by some giant beast, perhaps an underground dragon. There is no sign of human activity involved in the making of it.”
“What do you think?”
“I think that something is not quite right about this cave. I have never heard about such a gigantic beast in the poisonous swamp.”
Di Fuyi sighed. “Neither have I. Due to the lack of human involvement here in the swamp, it is normal that some unknown beasts still exist.”
She nodded in agreement without saying anything. To be honest, she did not have much faith in Yun Qingluo, as she believed that Yun Qingluo must still be planning something big and evil. At the moment, she had not figured it out.
She could only hope that Di Fuyi had really convinced Yun Qingluo. After all, Yun Qingluo was really obsessed with Di Fuyi and would listen to everything that he said, which was why she was here in the poisonous swamp with him, though it was against her will.
The team continued walking deeper into the passage. It was a rather peaceful walk without many obstacles. Sometimes, they would run into poisonous beasts that were accidentally trapped in the cave, but the beasts did not pose any great threat. Di Fuyi could always finish them off easily. The dangers posed in the cave were significantly lower than that of the swamp. The escorts were relieved. The safety of the princess had always been their greatest responsibility ever since they left the palace. It was a rather exhausting task, especially in this poisonous swamp where every encounter was a fight. There was hardly any time for them to catch their breaths or take a rest. The underground passage was the first time that they could catch a breath.
The two escorts continued their journey next to Yun Qingluo, who was in the middle. She was very particular with hygienic issues and would not let anyone touch her, so they dared not get too close, for fear that she would be disgusted.
They knew a little about the prolonged and bitter quarrel between Princess Yuanyuan and Gu Xijiu. Also, they were aware of the princess’s affection for the Devil King. They also knew that Di Fuyi treated her as his sister because he was not interested in anything intimate.
They also knew that Princess Yuanyuan was punished by the Devil King for what she had done to Gu Xijiu, so they actually thought that she would not be able to leave her bed for at least a month. To their surprise, she was with them in the swamp after only a few days.
The two men did not know the feud that existed between the rest of the people. It was obvious that the Devil King had treated the princess and Gu Xijiu very differently. He obvious fancied the latter.
They noticed that Princess Yuanyuan did not have much strength left. Her spiritual power was only slightly better than an ordinary mortal. In the heart of this poisonous swamp, her life was at the greatest risk, like an egg with a cracked shell that could be destroyed anytime.
Yun Qingluo knew how to manipulate people. She used to be really kind to all of Di Fuyi’s courtiers and would send them some gifts every now and then, so the courtiers were quite friendly with her.
Di Fuyi used to pamper her all the time, so the courtiers treated her the same. They would do or give her anything that she asked for. That explained why she was able to get the Universal Net so easily. As for now, they could tell that the princess was unusually quiet. She did not talk much like the way that she used to.
