Chapter 16 – Earning The First Sum of Money (第一笔金)

Qiao Hongye was clearly unaware of Qiao Weimin’s ill intentions at the moment. When she thought about Jing Yunzhao not being able to attend school anymore, her mood improved a little.

So she obediently followed his orders and made breakfast.

However, Qiao Hongye had never done any housework before. Her breakfast was hard to swallow, and she was scolded once again by Qiao Weimin.

While these were happening in the Qiao house, Jing Yunzhao had already arrived at the county town.

Excluding the money for the bus fare, she only had a few tens of yuan her. Her scholarship money was limited, and the Qiao family have never given her any for living expenses. Although she sometimes earned money from tutoring elementary or middle school kids, she was still tight on money.

But, this time, she found a way to earn some cash.

During the funeral period, everyone was busy and so, many of the fruits had been wasted and left to rot. She took the advantage of a time when the Qiao’s weren’t home and took the apple and orange seeds and kept them. She planted them in her space at night and the results were not bad.

The water flowing from the Dragon Headstone carving had the ability to accelerate growth, but she had to correctly manage the ratios’ aspects.

If she wanted to accelerate the growth of normal fruits, the ratio of the water from the Dragon’s Spring to well water needed to be 1:500. If she were to put more than that, the fruit tree wouldn’t die, but the fruits would grow to be abnormally large. If she were to bring them outside, there would definitely be a huge fuss.

She had originally thought that the water coming out of the fountain was water in the well, but she found out otherwise after some testing.

The water in the well was normal and could be consumed directly. This made it convenient for her because she didn’t need to get water from the outside to water her plants.

After getting off the bus, Jing Yunzhao found a remote area and took out a wicker basket filled with apples from her space. It was a basket weaved from the twigs of an apple tree that she had given too much spring water, so it was very sturdy.

She carried the basket weighing more than 100 Jin on her back. It was very heavy.

(T/N: Jin (斤) is a unit of weight. 1 jin = 0.5 kilograms = ~1.1 lbs)

Luckily, the place she wanted to go wasn’t very far. Before long, she placed down the weighty basket and prepared to set up her stall.

Oranges were selling cheaper, and because she had an urgent need for the money, she left the oranges in her space. For her apples, however, they were all red and round. They looked much better than the ones in grocery stores so it should be easy to sell.

As expected, someone came in less than 10 minutes.

“How much are these apples?” The person touched the apples with a face of satisfaction and smelled them. She kept thinking that these apples had a light yet sweetly fragrant smell to them, unlike the apples of other places that were covered in so many chemicals that even the colour looked weird.

Jing Yunzhao was in charge of buying all of the necessities for the Qiao family, so she knew the average market price of the apples.

“Aunty, 6 Yuan per Jin,” Jing Yunzhao smiled and replied politely.

Even though they were not cheap, but the apples were of good quality. Comparing it to other stores that sold it at the same price, her apples were better by a lot.

The woman was originally already curious about the young female seller. When she heard Jing Yunzhao’s polite voice, she developed a good impression of her, so she didn’t hesitate to bag more than 10 apples.

Her apples were only slightly bigger than average, but while she didn’t have a lot of apples to sell, Jing Yunzhao had already earned 30 Yuan within the blink of an eye. With the woman starting things off, Jing Yunzhao’s business only got better and better.

The basket was empty within four hours.

Touching the 700 Yuan in her pocket made Jing Yunzhao a little excited.

She had lived for so many years in her past life, yet she had always lived for others. She worked numerous jobs, yet she was always penniless.

(T/N: The MC did live a short life and die in her twenties.)

But in this life, she’ll never live like that ever again!
